Your first Day in Elite...

Squicker

S
I'm going to be playing naked on my first gaming session of Gamma, to symbolise being 'born' into the new universe.

I invite everyone to join me (not in my home, in your own).

I'm already there

My first day in ED?

Reading the manual....

"Press this button to start the engines"
"Press this other thingy to release docking clamps"

etc etc

Then... setting a course for Earth and admire our own solar system. And trying to see if we can land on Earth, in spite of the planetary landing expansion not included yet :p

first day hmmm

based on alpha

1. take at least one day off work maybe even two

2. Make sure I do have the joystick set to the optimum set up FOR ME. spending quite a lot on time getting everything right so that I can find those buttons by touch and don't drop shields for quiet mode when in fact I want to fire the laser!

3. Avoid the anacondas and big ships for now! Don't hunt the bear unless you have a big gun!

4. go into it slow - build up the money make sure I have cooling systems and shield generators before getting into a fight

First Day....

It's been over 30 years since I last played Elite (BBC B/Floppy), but if my memory isn't too rusty - and if the mechanics of ED are similar, then the very first thing I'll be doing is finding an moderately easy trade route with a good balance of risk/reward.

My first purchase will be an expanded cargo bay - followed by lots more trading.

Once the warchest is looking healthy, I'll be going for Weapons/Shields galore.

At that point I'll move on to the riskiest trading I can find - something like Narcs from Anarchic systems.

When I have a pile of cash and a well kitted-out ship, I'll probably go rogue and start causing mayhem across the galaxies. No doubt some cops will fry,,,,

I played the original Elite with keyboard only. Wonder if that's a feasible option this time....
