Hi all
I have quite a few
no order:
1. C64 games ...my mind was forced to make up the lack of picture and sound of a ex. plane, gun, hero etc. And it took 45 minutes to load a game.
But this new world which only at that time was in films and tv shows, now you could be hero and win teh day as a ninja, fighter pilot, soldier, weird frog crossing the street.
One game caught my eye A.C.E. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBbJ8mwyZoM I remember the airrefuel bit and what kid dosen't like jetfighters
2. Amiga 500/2000/cdtv : Many c64 titles just got better gfx and sound but the gameplay was still c64'ish so developers were forced to make really great content (and at that time adding better sound and gfx just resold alot of great
games). Still scripted gameplay but instead of going to school and braggin about highscores, we could play against each other. Summer games, winter games, California games great fun and two joystick but just hand over to player 3
and 4. The need for making up that you were in a car or plane etc was slowly washing out.
For me anything flying was the game. But fantasy was a big deal as well Champions of krynn...epic story and immersion for me
3. Early pc days: Let's port all amiga games ....that was not all successful. But a lot of new companies saw the light of day...Sierra, they did a typing game, which had many titles (space quest police quest and larry ..way ahead of it's
time
) The special thing of Sierra games for me was that english is not my native language and to get anywhere in this game, you needed to be able to type in english. So I learned a lot of common police procedure and typing in
english. Another company was Microprose, military games and their crown jewel Falcon 4.0 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_4.0, First online game for me and the start of being part of a online group. We used microsoft
game voice as a talking client, the year is 2000. Falcon 4.0 was a flop but source code leaked is has been carried on to this day. It still has one of the best campaign engines. I showed me the value of online gaming and how dynamic
and fun it is. Learning from a friend does not feel like learning because it is just fun. This game made me as a civilian turn heads and being asked by a airforce officer "are you a pilot ?". "No sir but a lot of sim time in a great sim"
4. Today pc games: hmm gta has done a lot. Dcs flight sim is up there on sheer realism, Online I still played Falcon 4.0 as Í love flight stuff, Skyrim impressed me a lot mega game. But main thing is AI vs. humans does not work as well
as humans vs. humans. The dynamic you get racing or fighting or out skill someone is epic.
16 people supported in one instance is just not good enough these days, we had 120 people steady in falcon 4.0 for in 2008.
Elite has made a universe, start making it full of life, like when you come to a station...the voice thing is really good but don't stop there, cause it is one thing, there is no believable life in the stations, ground bases are empty. Why not
make the gameplay like you want to make the punishment system ? cause and effect but dynamic between players and lore and stations and factions. Your idea of factions is good but poorly executed.
Fiinal thing : The wow factor for me in this game is the sound, it is what the game should be. Dynamic and online ....every other major thing is online and has users interact online....so Elite facebook it is
