Your Park Layout

With space limited and a widely large variety on dinosaurs I guess the challange in building a park lies in our willingness to compromise. Do we use every inch on the map for pens, not wasting space on stuff like shops or a science/visitor center. An other approach could be a somehow realistic park layout somehow like a modern zoo.

My re-vamped park ( I was so close to 5-stars... but a trike got out and killed like over a dozen people :( )

I love NuttiKrust's layout here. Particular the "hidden" research and power supply area. And it looks like there is only one creation lab to raise the dinosaurs. A idea I'm toying around to safe space and power tbh. But maybe a logistical pain to send new arrivals to their respective enclosures.

In my first playthrough my park's were actually kind of messy. Structured without much of a plan besides nice and tall pens for my dinosaurs. I'm currently on the third island trying to move on, unlock stuff (by the way how do I unlock the Dracorex? I can't find him ... :S ) but also thinking about how to re-vamp my park. At the current settings, I will use either Isla Matanceros or Isla Sorna to create a nice park.

Now I would love to spark a discussion of how do you structure your park, which dinosaurs do you use and so on. Maybe posting some pictures to give us all an impression of your work. Really looking forward to your ideas. :)

After ending the story I used Matanceros to create a nice park and spent hours just breeding new Dinos with new skins and adjusting the layout here and there.

Thank you for posting your park Sun Bro :D . I really like the natural design. It is looking a park, worked around the terrain which always looks really organic. May I ask which kind of carnivore inhabit the center enclosure?

I've unlocked the last dig sites today. Finally. And now I'm wrapping my head around a nice design for a park. I would like to mix up a traditional zoo design (arrival point, shopping area and some small, easy to keep dinosaurs) and work it around the map. Not much dinosaurs as I would like to keep the enclosures as big as possible and still provide some dino variety.
So I may start with a Ornithomimidae paddock. Some Edmontosaurus and Pachycephalosaurus. A Ankylosauria paddock and a must Ceratopsia enclosure. Some Stegosaurus and a nice Sauropoda enclosure. Sounds already too much tbh... For carnivore species, I'm not quite sure. Definitively a Tyrannosaurus Rex. A Spinosauridae enclosure (most likely Suchomimus and in addition Baryonyx). And maybe Carnotaurus.

Oh boy...

My sandbox set up, I wanted to see how much I could fit into one island, as well as figure out combinations of dinosaurs that work together for habitat / population needs:

I put all the guest stuff in the middle to keep it looking nice, even if my Capacity satisfaction plummeted (seriously, lol, i can't fill my entire park with hotels even though they want me too...7 isnt' enough? xD )

A - Mamenchisaurus (3) + Dilophosaurus (4)
B - Styracosaurus (4) + Polacanthus (1)
C - Chasmosaurus (5) + Nodosaurus (1)
D - Pentaceratops (4) + Anklyosaurus (1)
E - Kentrosaurus (4) + Chrichtonsaurus + Torosaurus (3)
F - Ceratosaurus (2)
G - Majungasaurus (2)
H - Diplodocus (4) + Edmontosaurus (3) + Gallimimus / Struthiomimus / Archaeorinthomimus
I - Sauropelta (2) (these guys hate everyone else. Shove them in a small exhibit alone)
J - Rex (1)
K - Suchomimus (2)
L - Giganotosaurus (2)
M - Metricanthosaurus (2)
N - Spinosaurus (2)
O - Indominus Rex (1) + Velociraptor (6) (spread the food out so the raptors can eat)
P - Brachiosaurus (3) + Apatosaurus (5) + Gigantspinosaurus (5)
Q - Parasaurolophus (6) + Muttaburrasaurus (7) + Tsintaosaurus (6) (Good for Gyrosphere)
R - Pachycephalosaurus (4) + Chunkingosaurus (3)

Thanks, that was the look I was going for. Maximum space used for enclosures, while keeping as much nature in the Park as possible. The herbivore, carnivore and gyrosphere paddocks always have different Dinosaurs in it. After finishing the story I am just sitting in Matanceros breeding new animals as the new ones are dying and everytime I try another species. The only species which are permanently in the Park are the classics: T-Rex, Raptor, Brachio and also the Indominus in different colour shades.

I finally start on my park on Isla Nublar. This is my 'progress' up to this point.

As you can see I primarily worked on the infrastructure of Isla Nublar so far. After their arrival the guests could check in the hotels straightway. I was kind of conflicted to even include hotels but let's be honest, people are not travelling all the way to Costa Rica only for a couple of hours. The entrance road leads straight away to the Visitor's Center with some shops and a restaurant on the way.

The right-hand path leads to the science and security department as well as to the electricity plant. Part of the science deparment are the Hammond Creation Labs where I guess the 'magic' happens. I plan to use only those two creation labs for the whole park. Mainly to save space and being more power efficient. The dinosaurs will be dazed and transfered to their new enclosure from here. I'm not happy about the procedure but you can't have everything I guess.

Next it is time to add some enclosures. I see my park more like a extensive zoological garden rather then a dinosaur theme park. Relatively big ensclosures, nothing cramped. Even observation platform will be reduced to a bare minimum.

And here is a brief look on the park so far.

I will update my progress here. Maybe you guys have some helpful and dandy hints on the way. Would be much appreciated.

So, I added the first three enclosures to my park. I also added a small pond for a small casual stroll.

Let's call the area 'Grassland'. In the first enclosures we can find a herd of Edmontosaurus and a couple of Gallimimus'. Next up we see a Pachycephalosaurus flock and the last enclosure is for my Ceratopsidae. Currently home of my Triceratops' and Styracosaurus''.

In the upper half of the park I will hope to add a Tyrannosaurus rex exhibit, a Suchomimus 'swamp' enclosure and a Stegosaurus and Brachiosaurus exhibit.

This last picture show the view on the Pachycephalosaurus enclosure.

I hope you like the small update. :x

Good Progress-Tips

Hey bud,

Great progress so far! Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. I like how you concentrated the power and "work buildings" all in one place. It's a shame that this game does not seem to classify the research buildings as ones that benefit the guests, as you would imagine guests could get entertainment out of a research center like the first Jurassic Park. Hotels by the entrance, like you did, seems to be the best strategy. A "VIP" hotel right in the middle with access for guests to see dinos could be a fun idea, but not really functional in this game.

Two small tips, and take them with a grain of salt:
-Centralize your ranger station and helipad in the map. This allows for more rapid response.
-Use the natural curves of the borders as a fence line. Do exhibits all along most of the borders with a path facing them and then you can do another exhibit right on the other side of the path, so guests can see both left and right. You can put viewing stands on opposite sides close together and then restaurants/gift shops close to them.

Keep up the good work and lets see the final product!

This is my Isla Nublar:

Was that the Sauropelta or you burping at 0:15? [big grin]
I'm not a fan of lumping the hotels together. Other than that, your park look great!
Yep. There were only 3 hotels on that hill, but at some point I needed to increase capacity, so... more hotels. I hate hotels, I want safari lodge!
