Powerplay Faction: Yuri Grom Yuri Grom Cooperative Discord

Hey all. Newish to Powerplay, not very new to Elite.

I started getting into Powerplay a week or two ago (Right before Yuri went into turmoil I believe, great timing right?) and joined up with Grom. Mostly out of ease of use and not knowing whether or not I'd even like it. It turns out, I really enjoy it. So, I started looking up where I needed to go to get coordinated and play Elite with fellow Grom supporters. I quickly became aware of an alarming situation within the community for Yuri Grom.

I went to EGP first, and was notified they were more or less no longer doing Powerplay. Awesome. The people that got Yuri to become a power, aren't supporting it anymore; good sign. So I go to the Independent Grom Support discord and after a few days of waiting for any response from anyone I'm finally notified by others that that discord is basically dead and there's no support there. Another great sign; this is going wonderful! So I went to the discord for the biggest squadron that Inara says supports Yuri in powerplay. Same answer. No longer interested.

By now I've already gotten hooked on powerplay, enjoy playing for Yuri, and want to rebuild, but have little to no structure or knowledgeable people interested in cooperating. So I figured if there isn't already existing support, I'd at least try and offer it!

If you are interested in playing Powerplay and want to cooperate with other commanders under a shared goal, I have created a Discord for my (miniscule 3 person causal-play) squadron. I'm going to use it to try and get people together to rally and make Grom great again. Yes, it's rough right now. No, I don't know what I'm doing. Okay, I know the basics of what I'm doing-ish. But try it, have fun. It'll at least be more fun than a sharp stick in your eye.

Good luck with that. I suggest you utilize Reddit too.

It's not going to be easy until you get a group large enough to actually control the power. EGP had allies in The Empire they might be able to help you with getting things started. Furthermore some ppl from EGP may be willing to help you out.

Starting a new powerplay group will take some time.

Depending on whether you have any particular commitment to fighting for Grom, you may find it more enjoyable to join an existing group for another power. The FUC has a community of players that really know their stuff and are decently organised. Most of the powers have groups with their own distinct inclination.

Unfortunately Grom has kind of fallen apart, and most of its supporters are/were Russian anyway.

Unfortunately we have been historically hostile to EGP and by extension Grom. If he's interested in playing for Grom FUC might not be the place. But of course we don't need to be hostile towards eachother.

Having a player group once again batting for Grom would be grand. However, under current mechanics it is a huge task as frankly, if a player group of 300 can't stop 5C dismantling their Power a new group is going to struggle. Regardless, Torval having being allied with Grom for many years would wish any efforts the best of luck and would try to help out if possible.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Yes, it's going to suck. Decent chance it's just plain not going to work, and I'll just go back to laser-blorping space rocks and messing around with minor faction stuff. Might even try blowing up a bug. But, it just seems like there should be some sort of structure around Grom in Powerplay. Plus, who doesn't like a good challenge?

If it doesn't work or it's too flustering. I'm not going to handle too many more weeks of running merits until my eyes roll into the back of my head, only to see that I ran half the merits for the week for Grom and very little got accomplished lol. But hey, maybe some other people will enjoy the idea of rebuilding the power. Especially if there's other people to cooperate with. Feeling like the only one doing anything certainly isn't enjoyable. I still have a lot of nonsense to take care of in the next couple weeks, I'm sure much more than I'm aware of. Literally just signed up for the forum today after a year ish of just lurking, so many little things to square away...

As far as reddit, I don't have access to post on r/EliteGrom so that's annoying. But I'll look into what I can do there regardless. I think the fact that EGP was Russian is a big issue; a lot of English speakers seem to have just dismissed playing for Grom as a whole, because why add the step of Google Translate (It doesn't bother me much, but I'm sure it is a bit of a turn off for other people). I've contacted them once or twice but there hasn't seemed to be any interest at all in coordinating or cooperating so I just gave up. As it stands now, I don't/won't really have anything to do with EGP other than them being favorable BGS-wise and I think that's what they intend on focusing their efforts in for the foreseeable future. For now, my personal focus is to just stop the backslide and consolidate. I'm not on the up-and-up about who hates who and who's trying to murder me in the sleep yet.

So regarding the ins and outs of inter-power politics... there are two main sides. On the one hand, the FUC (Winters and Hudson) and Kumo, who tend to work together. We fly in Open (btw I'm FLC). Then you've got ALD and AD, who work together to some degree but act in their own interests mostly. Torval is currently being used by other powers, using weaponised expansions that harm Torval as well as the Empire's enemies, while everyone else tends to stay out of it. Except Grom.
The issue with Grom isn't so much that nobody does anything. The problem is that different groups are trying to use it to do what they want. Which means that one player is gonna have a hard time getting anything useful to happen.
