KINGFISHER MEGASHIP VANISHES

24 NOV 3308
Pilots’ Federation ALERT ( PC 4.0+ only )
Contact has been lost with the Kingfisher megaship in the Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 system, just over a day since its arrival.

The Kingfisher was equipped to transmit signals to the interstellar anomaly named Taranis, with the goal of opening communications with it should such a possibility exist. Over 3,000 supporters of the xeno-peace movement were aboard the megaship when it departed the Andavandul system.

Rani Zaman , a spokesperson for the Thargoid Advocacy Project team monitoring long-range comms with the megaship, issued a statement to the media:
“I regret to say that all attempts to raise the Kingfisher on any frequency have failed. The last message we received was highly distorted, but seemed to be a distress call. We are asking for immediate assistance to locate the megaship and provide whatever support may be needed.”

The Federation responded by cancelling the temporary permit restriction to the Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 system for all vessels except fleet carriers. This permit was arranged at the request of Congressman Dalton Chase, who played a key role in procuring the Kingfisher megaship for use by TAP volunteers. With access to the system reinstated, Federal investigators have been despatched to assess the situation.

Observers have confirmed that the Taranis anomaly passed through Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 at faster-than-light speed. As with the other rogue signal sources, Taranis continues to move towards the core systems.

Well I am really glad that I spent all that time helping to build this megaship. I am also really glad I spent so much time hauling for the CG last week that I was in the top 10% and almost made the top 10.

Just for Frontier to kill them all two days later!

I've been hoping for non combat interactions since 2.4 was released, which is what 5 years now. The first option we're given and then it's slapped out of our hands. I'm not happy.

Worth noting, Thargoid Sensors can be found in the cargo hold of the Kingfisher.
Can occasionally be found. The fact that they're not found every time makes me think it's more likely they're in the loot table.

Yep I don't like ship-based combat but it looks like we're just getting more of that. Odyssey's existence at least has me hopeful we might get on-foot anti-xeno combat at some point, because I do enjoy the FPS gameplay - but having non-combat interactions seems entirely off the table...

everyone who got near the UIA knows, there is a good chance for a hostile hyperdiction, so not a suprise that the Kingfisher got blasted to smithereens

So in genuine curiosity, what kind of non-combat interactions were or are you hoping for? I've thought about it and really can't come up with anything that would appeal to me at least unless I'm looking at it wrong.

Would we do missions for them if they were friendly? If so what kind of missions would that be that would be any different than doing missions for friendly factions? Would we be attacking other human factions for them?

Would we trade with them? Here again what would we trade with them? Even if new assets were introduced what could they possibly be and what would be the commonality we and the Thargs would have with the product? I don't see any commodity in game that they would need. We already harvest and steal their crops but beyond that we nothing in common.

Maybe I just don't have much of an imagination but I just see it as they look at us like the second coming of their ancient enemies and don't want to be friends.

Bummer about the time spent on the CG though, I see your frustration there.

This exactly. Baiting like 4.000 players into putting tens of hours into low rewards CGs, just for the ship to explode one day later.

I mean, we all expected, maybe even knew it, but it's still shocking to me that they would follow through with this uninspired .

Meanwhile, AX crowd is getting showered with tens of "Kill the Thargoids" CGs, where good money is in the bonds and engineered weapons in the tier rewards.
