Elite Dangerous Update 14 Release Schedule

Adding my voice to the VR topic.

It’s been over a year and 14 updates which have improved performance. High time to address the ‘grey panel surround’ criticisms and provide a basic VR camera implementation so we can explore on foot in VR using a gamepad and really experience the vistas…

can we please get an update please on a roadmap on VR support on Odyssey/legs for updates 15/16.

All we need is to add the VR view (that Carrier jump sequences and the free cam trick suggest is there but not fully implemented) and add a HUD. No need for motion controllers - using a gamepad is more than good enough to enjoy….
I have yet to comprehend what is so damn difficult after 14 patches about VR support for our legs...but HHHEEEEEYYYYYY... we got goids to kill.

Yay, let's make this a VR thread! I love it and flew to Beagle and back in 100% VR. My total ED VR time is about 3.5k hours.

O7,

I have an HP Reverb 2 and I love VR play using it.
I have a 2070 graphics card, an I7 and have quite high settings and find it so imersive. Very clear and colourful non pixilated image with no screen door.
I sometime have to play non VR if I am dog minding for instance and I find it nowhere near as good and although the graphics on my 4k HDR monitor are a bit better they do not compensate for the total immersion in VR.
On my 24" 1080p monitor I also get a clear and colourful image. And I don't have a heavy sweaty headset or more cables in my way, and I can alt-tab out easily, which I do a lot to use third party tools or just chat with people. And on my 3060 Ti and Ryzen 7 it runs much better and ends up more immersive because I don't have to drop resolution and graphics settings for it to run at bearable framerate.

Forgive my ignorance and for just jumping in but when you are on foot do you still use your headset but it just doesn't show VR or do you have to remove headset and use a screen?
You keep the headset on. it plays out like being on a large screen. You will get used to it quickly, It's really no biggie. Everything is sharp, instant.. Plays fine, albeit without the 3d depth. If you just want to walk on planets and settlements and concourses in real VR, then you can via the camera suite. I don't play the on foot game really, but I walk evertywherte in VR for the scale, depth and immersion. But in this VR mode, there is no HUD, so can't be used for missions etc.. But for sightseeing in all it's glory, it's great.

I have a 65" 4k LG TV as my monitor, still can't even begin to rival VR.

not flipping that switch, hell no, so about them stargoids..Seems like taranis had mechanical malfunctions and had to make a quick stop for a lube change. we are looking at 1700 hours now...and it keeps stretching :p

Don't you guys forget to all pile in as soon as it is available so we can crash the server and break the game until friday.

They really haven't. It's always felt quickly tacked on just for a marketing point. As I already mentioned I did everything I could with the settings - always pixelly, even on a Quest 2, on which other VR games including HL:A and ETS2 look pretty good.
It's cool for maybe flying/driving around and gawking at the scenary for half an hour or so but I wouldn't even try and do anything

E.D was created and designed for VR from the beginning. Where did you get that wrong information. Elite was running on the DK1 way before release. It was the biggest name in VR and sold by the bucket because it was the VR experience to own.

"Elite Dangerous is designed from the ground up to support Virtual Reality and 4K Ultra HD display technology. It has Cutting-edge visual quality and performance enabled by Frontier's COBRA engine. It supports the latest displays at 4K resolution, and is built for the future with full 8K and 16K support."

Elite Dangerous is a groundbreaking title for virtual reality gaming, because its one of the first major titles to offer full VR support with an exceptionally immersive experience in an all-encompassing universe. It was the go to game for many VR headset demos before the devices were commercially available. From a technical standpoint, Elite Dangerous is one of the PC’s most high-end VR titles, pushing even very powerful PCs to their limit
