Elite Dangerous Update 14 Release Schedule

It is a game, not an essential service.
I've got 30+ years working in I.T. for multiple government entities. Have witnessed outages lasting days or even weeks. A few hours is nothing to write home about. Complex systems fail.
If GOV.UK went dowm, I think there'd be much unhappiness before an hour was out.

Remember, Stargoid anomalies move at relativistic speed, making accurate predictions about their arrival somewhat tricky. It's entirely plausible (in a Schrödingerian/Einsteinian sense) that the Thargoids arrived in time, while in fact we are still waiting for them. 😵‍💫
A Thargoid is never late, nor is it early. A Thargoid always arrives exactly when it intends to.

No, it is a game...

A delya in bringing the servers up, OK ...

it's irrelevant if it's a game. you're delivering a service, you don't do your job less competently because it's a game. For example, if workmen were building a park, they're not gonna just halfass it and take twice as long as projected because it's a park and not a road.

I'm a contractor working for a government entity, building an application that has millions of users. If it went down for hours that would be viewed as a serious problem. So i don't understand why people on here are thinking it's no big deal when Elite goes down.

Every time :D

Having been at the mercy of apps created and maintained by government contractors for two decades I'm not impressed by anything in this statement and nobody else here should be either. You're comparing apples to rotted, half-a** produced oranges harvested by the lowest bidder here.

there is a difference between systems 'going down', and planned maintenance windows.... which often take longer.

if the system was considered critical, you would have alternative servers - so you can avoid downtime.

there is nothing unusual about this from a (major) development stand point.

Yeah, whatever...
I'm not bothered by a game being late...

...don't let me ruin your suffering though.

Planned vs Unplanned. Doesn't matter how many users you have.
We're waiting for a scheduled & planned event to finish. Not an unplanned one.
