No Single Player offline Mode then?

Thanks. I see the ones from 2012, but I am more curious about what came after.

For example, I found these two posts from Sandro (23-7-2013) and Michael (22-1-2014) that are more recent, in the context of design discussions.

So at least as recently as January, they were still intent on offline single player. By then, we were already in the Alpha. Therefore, some time between then and now is when problems should have emerged leading to yesterday's announcement.

That appears to exclude some insinuations that were made earlier that somehow, they *always* knew it wasn't going to happen.

Trying to trace a timeline here. So, from the end of 2012, all the way through 2013, and the beginning of 2014 at least, they were committed to delivering the promise.

Sorely tempted to refund the game. Professionally I travel daily, and I do not always have internet. I specifically backed this because of the goal of offline single player meant that I could play this on my down time. Now it isn't so.

Sad panda.

It's a pain, and I hope FD change their mind on it, but I don't think you should go for a refund. I'm sure there are times when you are at home and you can play it.

Whoops, so it is, so that's just a year ago they could have told us if that things had changed then, I'll try to find something more recent. :)

A few posts up Tim.

Wow, stay off the forums for a day and......

Threadnaught sighting confirmed; Class 83. Deploying personal expectation dampeners at full capacity, retracting positivity injectors to minimum range. Prepping brownstorm buffers for max load. Standing by for backlash waves.

Interesting times. Possibly the Chinese curse version of such but still.

Wait, I may be getting angry over nothing. Does this mean I will be forced to play open world, or that I will need to be connected to play solo?

Hi
if you type Offline in the serch box
there are plenty of references to offline being part of the game at release

We've already announced that single player will be playable offline and that the game will be DRM free. Of course online multiplayer will not be playable offline though, because...you know...online.

Right, that's the idea. Find the most recent statement of intent in favor of delivering the fully offline feature. That narrows the range of when something changed and the feature was abandoned. Right now the range is between Jan. 22, 2014 (the last official post I've found so far) and today.

What I'm seeing is that if they *knew* offline wasn't deliverable, I assume they would have told us long before then, but at that point earlier this year they still seemed intent on delivering it. Therefore, I don't see any evidence at all of a deliberate deception. That's important to me. I want to give Frontier the benefit of the doubt. My initial take was to take what they said at face value, and that they tried to deliver, but couldn't for reasons stated. I honestly believe they tried. Admittedly, I wasn't there so I don't know, but common sense tells me they wouldn't have kept promising it if they weren't intent on delivering.

Looks to me after perusing this beast and other stuff, that if you want to play completely offline you can't. Some varied and nebulously-delineated level of internet connection is needed to support core features of the game.

Solo is still an Online mode so you're not BBQ'd for that, but if you're somewhere with zero bars you'll be zero spaceshipgame. Nobody's making you go full Open, they're just taking away peoples' ability to game sans net.

Having seen program development from the inside I suspect that they were working on it (offline mode) as recently as last week and finally decided that they could not deliver it and maintain the quality they wanted for their product. After that it was a simple, and logical, decision to make the announcement in the planned Newsletter.

None of that is meant to soothe hurt feelings or hamper further speculation. It's only my opinion and based solely on my own personal experience, but it's perfectly reasonable.

Is this thread closed or why are my posts being deleted?

There is no AAA popular game where still people complain about not being able to play offline. And people who claim it are just egoistic because they demand a SEPARATE game with separate content. Since you can cheat when you are offline, you cannot be allowed to go online from an offline game.

If you want to go online just once, you have to be online all the time because the server has to verify that no cheating takes place.

I'm guessing you were in your cave when the whole Xbox One fiasco took place?
