I've got another question. Do Striped Hyenas really live in Tropical Rainforest?

Another thing that I found odd with new animal requirements is that striped hyenas, which I associate more with open plains and deserts having been tagged for tropical. Do they really commonly occur in rainforests or tropical dry forest? If not, this tag sort of makes most biomes fair game for other animals.

A quick Google search mentions dense dry woodland and scrub forests. The only tropical part mentioned is tropical savanna. The tag is technically correct as tropical does not always mean palm trees and whatnot

If the game's tropical tag included savannas, you would expect all savanna animals to have tropical instead of grassland. When I look at African savanna animals for instance, majority only have grassland. Even the new wildebeest added only has this tag. Can't see any savanna trees with tropical tags either. Therefore I'm pretty certain savanna is equivalent of grassland in the game. What I'm wondering is more about whether these hyenas are common in tropical dry forests or rainforest. If not this would be a game changer.

No striped hyenas only border the expected zones that could be classed as tropical forest. This could be a misplaced tag of course

Striped hyenas do occur in tropical dry forests in India. They even occur in tropical moist forests (as part of mosaics in places like Mudumalai). They're definitely more associated with open savanna and scrub areas, but are present in tropical dry forest in areas like the Eastern Ghats, the Western Ghats (to a limited extent), and the Central Indian landscape with mostly teak forests. Look up protected areas like Pench, Tadoba, etc.

Admittedly, even the IUCN considers the suitability of tropical dry forests to be "marginal" - and as others have pointed out, the Planet Zoo biome tags work kinda loosely so I'm not sure how they should land - but yeah... the hyenas are indeed present in tropical dry forests in India, hope that helps!

Thank you, that has been helpful. Then it isn't all that wrong for striped hyenas to have tropical biome in the game after all. Maybe Frontier could revisit some of the older animals to give them these more marginal biome tags.

Tropical dry forest is not the same as a tropical rainforest. If they have the tropical rainforest tag, this is inaccurate.

Because of the limited scope of the PZ biome system, temperate grasslands, tropical grasslands and savannahs, and dry tropical forests all fall under "Grassland" within the game. It should not have tropical rainforest.
