Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It seems that the number of fidels just for Stanton is indeed interesting.
46 million hours played in 2022. Nice !
I wonder how all those hours of playtime could have been spent in a game with nothing to do and all those nasty bugs that riddle the game every 5 min.

Let me guess... because the alpha is more and more fun to play each patch ?
46 million hours = 5251 players per hour

Yikes. NMS, Elite, and EVE, all crush that hourly concurrent on their supported platforms. Meanwhile, on Steam:

Yes, but SC is still in alpha! When its released there will be millions of players every hour of every day!
I think you might have that a little wrong from the perspective of a future press statement by SC's marketeers.

Perhaps you meant "When it's released (and of course it is already, and it isn't and it is) then there will be millions of hours per player per day". Server meshing will release players from the constraints of linear time, something that has never been done before. Due next year. Or maybe the year after.

For a mmo in alpha which reset all your progress from time to time it's excellent !
NMS, ED and EVE don't reset your progress on a regular basis.

Imagine a company that in a single year:
  • had 46 million free tester hours at their disposal, amounting to free labour
  • was paid by those testers, on average, more than 2 USD per hour for the privilege of testing their eternal alpha
  • was nonetheless unable to release more than a single meagre patch in the same time span
A truly transformative moment for the industry.

Lol. Nothing to imagine You are just seeing here that SC players already love the game as it is ! When gamer like, gamer play and gamer spend... such amazing discovery 😂 nobody ever in the industry could imagine that when you make a fun product, gamers play it !!!

Nah. Space trains.

It's gonna be all about those space trains...
Something is definitely being written to those 100M USD graph databases. Which makes me think that actual persistence will be a complete and utter crapshow because, for the love of Odin, the concept of rollbacks in the kind of a system they advertised, will be a PITA.

They though about rollbacks, right? RIGHT?

Do you actually play star citizen...or have you suffered the currently exclusive access 3.18 wave 1 PTU at all? Asking for a friend

I'll let you into a little secret...most of us who do play star citizen and have this pay-walled wave 1 access, tested wave 1 for a couple of days at most then went back to whatever we were doing before it dropped. It's ridiculously unstable and too chock full of game breaking bugs to enjoy for more than 10 minutes at a time. We tested the advertised patch features, found them to be mostly broken or beset by other disconnected database or game engine bugs and gave up.

Unfortunately, the singular 3.17 live patch...which, besides perpetual ship sales and marketing events is the pinacle of what Ci~G managed to produce in an entire calendar year... isn't much better. There are too many multiplayer games that actually work for any of us (as regular players) to suffer star citizen for any length of time.

Just to give you a bit of perspective, our org of 30+ members has a few long term evocati testers with most of us being grand admiral concierge level and above. The majority of us have been backers since 2015 or earlier 🤷‍♂️

Morgan Freeman voice: "It was at this point WhiteHaulerMan realised LittleAnt was trolling the rest of the posters, who were too busy tripping over each other trying to slam them, they hadn't realised it themselves."

Pff, he's a genuine Poe. Could easily just be trolling. Could genuinely be off his trolley. Very hard to tell.

He always gives us an excuse to post highlights from CIG's blunder files though. So why look a gift horse in the mouth? ;)
