Newcomer / Intro Tested AX fight. They wipe their rangers on my jacket.

Good info! I’m planning on grabbing some more guardian weapon blueprints next time I’m on and already have a couple of the Modified Plasmas - maybe I’ll pair those with some of the Shard Cannons and then alternate between ‘em?!
I'll suggest getting enough materials for the class 1 and 2 Gauss cannons as well as shard cannons (which are fun).
In the end the Gauss cannon is the most versatile. You can take out hearts at range with 1.5km being optimal, and they do well at hull to excert hearts and get the final kill. I find them better for scouts than shard cannons, but mastering FA off and getting the right mouse control set up is essential. It's frustrating that the ideal set up for FA off flying makes it hard to steer the ship with FA on and harder still in supercruise. The work around is bind number pad keys to pitch and roll and fly with those when not FA off. Bit of a problem when playing on a laptop with no number key pad.

Yeh, I have the Gauss Cannon unlocked in both sizes already. I“m going after more of the Salvation “Modified” Plasma and Shard variants at the moment as they seem a little more flexible.

I’m a PS5 transfer playing using a controller so there’s no way FA OFF is happening any time soon!! I did try the mouse control and absolutely hated it. Nothing like flying an actual “plane”.

The obvious answer to that is, its not a plane, and FA off removes the simulated aircraft like flight characteristics.
But we all know this.
Personally I cannot get accurate enough without FA off, relative mouse movement and left-right mouse controlling yaw and just the right sensitivity with no dead zone. I think my head is more inside the game and less what my hands are doing, so I'm not really "offended" by non-HOTAS controllers. I do have an X52 which is fun FA on with gimballed weapons, but there is nothing left in the game that is a challenge for that type of combat unless I start using weaker ships with no or little engineering.

Yeh, I know it’s not really a “plane” but I find FA OFF just seems to make the entire thing unstable for no real reason. I can hit Interceptor hearts with FA ON, though, so I”m okay sticking with that - it just sets my ceiling a little lower as there’s no way I can survive against the higher rated ones, but I’m okay with that.

After trying many builds, I use this one. https://edsy.org/s/vxbqoMb
Not fully engineered, but enough to test.

The 2 AX advanced multi cannons are very powerfull versus Scouts, and with the Gauss, I can deal some damages to Interceptors & help other CMDR.
It's easy to deal with caustic damages using stealth mode and waiting temperature to raise 90%, then using boost and Gauss quickly raise to 120%. Using a heatskin just after caustic damage is canceled is the best way I found to get min damage, usually 2-3%.

It's funny to play open game with other CMDR. If I can do it, I guess that everybody can :)
When there's other cmdr, I focus on Scouts and let them deal with Interceptors. When space is cleaned from Scouts, I can watch and learn from more experienced CMDR or try to remain under 20% temp and turn around Interceptors.
The system Mapon is actually a good place for a noob like me. Searfoss Terminal is safe, there's a spaceport to defend, where you'll find only Scouts, and 1 or 2 Interceptors near Sigma Surveillance Bureau or Alpha Cluster Construction.
By the way, it's quite easy and fun to get 10 milions credits in a small hour.

If new CMDRs fear to engage targoïds, it worth to try.
I lost around 30 millions to learn, getting killed many times, but in the last 2 days, I earned 250 millions for killing Xoids, just playing 1h30 - 2h per day.

Get some pot shots in on the Interceptors to help take down shields / finish ‘em off and you can bag some extra combat bonds!!

important question ... is it ALWAYS saying so ?
Because I have missing those starting from 2nd or 3rd one for years now playing on Linux (ship voice is just silent until relog). And latest updates makes same "crackling" sound, missing words and in addition drop to 0 fps then disconnect.
So I suspect BUG here appearing on this sound effect + linux. So question - when you do WZ do you always here announce? Or can be some missing?
You shouldn't be having any sound issues, even in Linux/Wine.
Try
Code:
winetricks xact_x64
winetricks xact
(Yes, it needs to be two separate invocations. And preferably in that order.)

If that doesn't help, or you have any other issues you think might be related to Linux/Wine, come over to
and we'll work out stuff there, leaving this thread for the AX questions.

I've been watching some videos about this war going on, and i can't help but feel this would be a perfect time for a new ship specifically built and kitted out for it.

It really looks like fun, but the bar for entry is just far too high for newcomers, and even people that just got the hang of the game and have enough money for a great ship, you then have all the engineering that cannot be avoided if you want to at least think about entering into battle.

I just cannot imagine a collection of human factions with all their resources, money, and tech, not stepping in to come up with designs for new ships focused purely on the threat they all collective face.

If it's about locking access to such things, like the anti-thargoid weapons, behind a grind-wall, then to get more people into the fight, i think it'd be a good idea to open those things up to everyone IF they choose to enlist in some sort of "Galactic Coalition Forces" and be able to just hop into ready specced out ships.

This is mostly why i didn't bother going into the "live" game. At least in Legacy mode, the encounters you have with the thargoids are sort of them just being curious, while in Live mode, they'll just kill you on sight now, right?

The Enhanced antixeno weapons unlocked by the season of Community Goals before Christmas are available for anyone at the rescue megaships and you just need the credits to buy them, so no grind wall there.
You can fight scouts quite well with a fairly basic ship, but obviously engineering and other specialised modules would be better.

I have a Krait II mostly engineered for speed and large jump range, but you really don't need either for basic Scout combat.

Get a Xeno Multi Limpet controller and cargo space for Limpets/Wounded Pods Evac missions.
Get 3 x Size 3D Enhanced AX Multi Cannons and 1 x Size 2E EAXMC and then also 1 x Standard 2E MC for the 5th hardpoint as it still does a little/some damage to Thargoids - all turreted, not gimballed or fixed mounts - you target one, press trigger and turreted keeps on firing at target until its dead - easy!.

Go into a Low AXCV and try at first shooting just 6 Scouts then prepare to RUN (boost, boost, boost and immediately enter Supercruise) when Interceptors arrive as they will try to disable your ship and cut you up in about 2 seconds.
SC away for a few seconds then go back to same CZ and instance restarts - do 6 scouts again then RUN again.

(When caustic goo hits you, fire a Decontamination limpet until its gone - don't target the limpet)

When limpets use up or fed up with that, dock at any station in Invasion system as Krait is only a Medium pad, fill cargo up with Wounded Pods (Evac Missions) and take these to Rescue Megaships for Rep and or Material rewards - you get 1 Grade 5 or 4 Materials which are really good.

You will have to launch with Megaships already targetted in Gal map - 6 to 8 jumps and run the Interceptor gauntlet immediately on launch, to Jump to next system then you can relax for the rest of the jumps (take a Fuel Scoop!).

You may get Assassins (NPC, so easy) after you on the last or penultimate jump but just submit to Interdiction and boost, boost away and SC/Jump again before they thrash you.

Hope you try it as I did it first time recently and haven't got up to Interceptors yet (I have tried and failed) - but doing my bit.

I get the impression that my NPC crew flying a Lance is not worth the space it uses up. Only tried a couple of low CZs today and Brave Sir Robin'd when the space cabbages appeared. Apart from taking forever to get the fighter docked I don't think it did anything else. Any thoughts on the use of these?

Which level are they?

They are new hires - the one I took out was "competent" (not). LOL
Ship Launched Fighter pilots are basically a diversion or decoy in normal combat until they reach Deadly or higher, mine is now Elite and can be sent out in an Imperial Fighter with a good likely hood of them getting the kill and bringing the fighter back on their own.

I doubt that they find AX combat any easier so you will need to do lots of combat with them to rank them up to where they are really useful to you.

I changed a bit my chieftain to increase speed https://edsy.org/s/vxbqoMb
Actually I earned 2.000.000.000 credits just killing scouts and cyclops. I never asked to flight on a team because I still feel too clumsy.

Actually I still have some problems with guardian gauss cannon. It's very hard to keep focused on target while they are charging. Would it be easiest with the Guardian plasma cannons ?

Gauss cannons pretty much requires full time FA off flying and relative mouse movement with left-right controlling yaw.
After that Azimuth shards or plasmas are easier and good. I've used regular guardian shards a fair bit.

I finally tested the MODIFIED GUARDIAN PLASMA CHARGER available at Prospect's Deep in Mbooni. It's much better for me than the gauss cannons. I can aim more easely and wait to trigger the fire.

I'll give these a try sometime when I can face going out for guardian weapon blueprints and parts... yet again!
