Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm a bit confused now...

Maybe I'll just buy the stuff then before I head out, if mining it is the grind to end all grinds as you say. Oh and when I did that quick test flight in my shopping T9 I did notice that it made a Reliant Robin look like a Ferrari...
Take the T9 out for some tritium mining somewhere in the bubble so you can get a feel for how long it takes to mine it. It basically takes far too long to collect enough tritium for even one maximum range jump (100t) for it to be something you would choose to do. It's an emergency measure only to rescue you from mis-calculation of fuel requirements.

This.

That's why I always carry three times what I need to get where I'm going.

I have 5 systems I frequent, all around 6,000 LY or so from Deciat. Typically, it takes right at 1,000 tons to get to any of them.

So I'll make sure I have 3,000 tons before I leave: 1,000 to get there, 500 or so to move around a bit if I find a good hot spot to mine, and the other 1,500 to get back since it costs a bit more coming back with mined oar aboard.

Interesting. I'm not sure what you changed but I did have an ADC in the size 1 slot in my build. Everything else, except one size 5 slot for the shield, is cargo racks.

Anyway, based on what you said, I'd put the DC in the size 3 slot and fit another cargo rack in the size 5. The whole point is to have as much cargo space as possible, after all. Gotta minimize those trips! :p

I've now got rid of the supercruise assist and moved the docking computer into that grade 1 slot. That freed up a grade 5 slot for the 5A shield gen. The 4E cargo rack that I removed was one extra to your loadout anyway, so my loadout is now the same as yours, apart from not being able to have a prismatic SG.

I think back in 2015 there was no supercruise assist anyway so I must have gone everywhere then without one, but I did another test flight in the T9 without the SA and docked, then departed ok at a mailbox station in the same system. On the way back to the carrier I was interdicted by an NPC pirate, who informed me that I was a "useless dreg" when he found I had no cargo.

I've never used one when I realized you can get to your destination faster by not using it, you might try a bi-weave shield generator if you're looking for something a little better to give you time to escape. Though when it comes to being interdicted, sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.

Yeah, I rarely use SCA, even when exploring. I occasionally kick it on if I need to scan something that is a long distance away, just so I can hit the loo or whatever. In any case it's definitely not needed for short-range hauling like my T9 does for me. Only a couple of my ships even carry one.

I agree with the others that buying the Tritium before you leave the bubble is the easiest way to handle it. I make money in whatever way I wish, could be mining, could be exo, could be combat even -- whatever I feel like doing. Then before I go out exploring I stock up on Tritium.

I might at any time decide to take a very long cruise, so I usually keep about 14000 tons of Tritium in my carrier. It's a bit of overkill, unless I decide to go really far, but I like having the option to just go, whenever, where ever. I top it up when I get back, and I'm free again to travel as the mood takes me.

I act like some sort of idle rich fellow. :p

One can actually get there faster WITH the SCA, it just needs a little bit of manual jiggery pokery...

There is a setting on the ship tab in the right panel that allows you to use manual throttle with SCA...

Using that, there is the possibility of going into slowdown (due to gravitational attraction), within some small single digit number of LS and then setting the throttle back into the blue for guidance...

Basically, you just come shooting in and when in range, the SCA drops you from SC automatically...

I usually manage it about 9 out of 10 times or so...

If you start the process too far out, say > 5 LS, you'll shoot past your destination like you do when you miss on full manual anyway...loop of shame time...

But you can go full throttle in SCA until you get down to 6 or 7 seconds to arrival, set throttle to blue and then when you're within about 4 LS to arrival, speed up until you go into slowdown (@ < 6 seconds to arrival) and then go back to the blue zone on the throttle for a guided arrival...

Beware of bodies in the path of your trajectory...

Yes until recently I hadn't realised that supercruise assist wasn't around when I played before in 2015, and have just been using it as it seems to be a default in every ship these days, mostly without really thinking about it.

I've been wondering lately if I can get to places quicker without it though, so I think I'll remove it from all my ships that have it.

That said, I just looked at my CobraMkIII loadout and found that it doesn't have one anyway, because I've had that ship since my previous 2015 stint and I've flown that ship a few times since I returned to the game a few months ago, without even noticing the lack of an SA ... :ROFLMAO:
