Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

CIG has asset guys that are paid to do assets. So strange ! They should fire them, existing assets are sufficients 😅

CIG's given off several honest signals that they're concerned about Elite's feature set being bigger then Star Citizen.

So they've showcased settlements on Pyro (with no AI active on NPCs), shown concept art for underground bases, have shown crash sites with some NPCs nearby that rummage about. And they've recently celebrated that they've got planetary NavMeshes working a bit, well over a year after Odyssey's release...
Getting the distinct vibe here that they're scrambling to try and meet Elite's gameplay - and some of it only in concept.

Same deal a long while back when Horizons released; Star Citizen gave an "us too, and prettier, but not right now" video the day after.
And this year Frontier'll be increasing the pressure on CIG even more with the upcoming "Key Feature Overhaul".

Imagination will take you far, but eventually you've got to deliver.

EDO added some nice things, but at the same time degraded the existing planets, it is absolutely normal that many people are unhappy. I can assure you that there would be only one or two guys on the forum complaining about the fact that some rivers in a certain place do not have perfect joining assets when seen up close.

Too bad there is none so and few chance you ever see them in game.
Well that degradation is debatable question. I like EDO planets more, but there are lots of people with different opinion.

Like EDO trying to catch up with the whole FPS part of SC ? Or walking in station trying to catch up with walking in ship of SC ?
That is an actual justified LOL right there 😂 . If you insist in going into this particular "SC does this thing that your game does not" I am afraid we can not ignore things that others game do that SC does not. And I am afraid SC loses overall at every turn. Not just when compared to Elite but also NMS, Space Engineers and pretty much every other actual space game out there.

For exemple SC has been very unsuccessfully trying to catch up with Elite for over 11+ years on a number of things such as:
  • Jumping to multiple systems
  • Space anomalies
  • Black holes, nebulas, neutron stars, white dwarf stars, binary and multiple star systems, etc etc that you can visit
  • Ability to actually be the first discoverer of celestial objects and claim the discovery plus have your name on it.
  • In cockpit VR support
  • Alien races, ruins and puzzles with associated gameplay
  • Repairing gameplay
  • Exploration content, gameplay and related features
  • In ship illegal goods authority detection and related silent running smuggling gameplay
  • Crafting and customizing modules and ships
  • Taxi shuttle service
  • 3+Km long player owned fleet carrier megaships
  • Proper silent running and detailed countermeasures systems
  • Dynamic economy
  • Mission generator based on system economy and faction states, all influenceable by players
  • Ability to participate in persistent player faction warfare
  • Wider array of FPS surface building layouts including actual related missions and gameplay
  • Settlements defense and alarm features that can be interacted with, hacked or even disabled by players
  • Reasonably working different archetypes of actual NPC´s AI and patrols
  • FPS detailed stealth gameplay features
  • Functional tutorials and starting player dedicated environment
  • Ship naming
  • Ship skins
Or more generally decent physics or just behaving in a stable manner without crashing, glitching or breaking basic geometries in the game every other minute.

SC is also not even trying to, or rather can´t, do:
  • 1:1 scale model of the galaxy and systems based on astrophysics fundamentals including actual celestial motions, orbits etc
  • Quantum travel equivalent with pilot flight directional full control and unconstrained navigation for ships within system
  • In game actual global alien race invasion warfare mechanics
Just so to name a few.

Also, to be fair, here a few things ED does not have that SC does have:
  • Broken physics, frequent crashing, glitching or breaking basic geometries in the game every other minute
  • Ability to purchase unlimited in game credits with real money
  • Ability to purchase unlimited in game ships or weapons with real money
  • Subscriptions
So, yeah SC is not only a very mediocre and crappy, pay to win broken game, but it is lagging quite behind in overall offered content and basic features.

Everyone's missing the real innovations here.

CIG are about to reinvent the alphabet with the patch after 3.18.0z...
Just like covid they can start doing mythology names. Would be appropriate for the mythological game anyway.

I still can't believe the Kraken variant is loose now.

That's like one CIG marketing campaign all done and ready to go! Concept ship Kraken tie in for the win! 2K$ retail.

I expect those who have backed up to a decade ago feel the need to try to extract some sort of recompense for the vast sums ploughed into a game that is still in alpha.
Thankfully, I managed to get my money out of this dumpster fire before CIG changed the terms of service, not that it would’ve done them any good. At the time, nothing I was seeing was worth even installing the “game,” thanks to the plethora of mainstream, early access, indi, and kickstarted games I had access to, so I’d never agreed to their changing terms of services. Nor had there been a “hurry up and take more of my money” moment from CIG.

The last straw was finding out about the Hollywood Accounting style Shell-Company Shuffle they still have going. I still can’t believe they had the audacity to pay themselves dividends in 2020, from a crowd funded project…

Always love it when the faithful do these lists:

Walking in ships
Walking in stations*
Walking on planets*
Walking inside planetary bases*
Walking in space
Carrying boxes
Stacking boxes
etc.....

* - now available in EDO.

One of the funniest features that's missing from SC to me is the ability to sell ships in-game for aUEC, even if you bought them in-game for aUEC.

Such advanced technology is required before "selling stuff that you bought" can be implemented :D
