Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The Type 6 seems to be a capable ship for material collecting. It is nimble enough to scoop up materials floating in space if you run out of Limpets and quite good for precise planetary landings. And on top of that, this:

I had to recall the ship after accidentially sending it away and it landed right behind me. This was the closest one, but any recall landing was around and mostly below 500m in a flat, easy to reach spot. My Cobra would usually land about 1,000+m away, even in a place like the one above. And it would usually require some serious rock crawling to get there.
Yes, I love the T6. It was my first 'serious' exploration vessel. I went out to Colonia and back in it. I still have it, nicely updated with the Hazard pack. :)

Flying my T6 at the moment, love it. just over 50ly jump which is fine for everywhere except the very edge cases, doesn't jump as far as my Phantom, but it can land places the Phantom can't and jump range isn't as important these days.

One of the things I love most about it is it's looks. It's the best looking ship in the game simply because it has no pretense. I see these ships, with and without kits, spoilers, little wingtips, and the T6 goes, what? I'm a brick, a flying brick, I just barge through, what do you actually think your little spoilers and wingtips are doing?

It's an honest ship is what it is!

Like @Codger I put the Hazard kit on my T6 - looks very good indeed!

Question...

My Corvette has turreted MC on the bottom hardpoint. I'm thinking something else would be better. Any recommendations? Just note that I'm hopeless with fixed weaponry!
There are a variety of weapons available with the superior* turret mount how about a Long Range Emissive Pulse Laser or maybe if you want to stick with ammunition an Overcharged Thermal Cascade Canon.

*Yes I know purists will say that you shouldn’t use that word for weapons underneath a ship.

i have a 3C beam laser (gimballed) there i think - it’s really the 2x 4’s on top that are the main feature, but one can use it for a turret/missiles, or a healing beam for wing…
Interesting... thanks!

I first got my Type 6 back in 2015 during my previous stint playing ED and still have it in my fleet. So all that info about its planet landing capabilities and material collecting etc is handy to know. (y)

EDIT: Ah, thought so - re limpets - they can be synthesised as well and as I'm not short of materials can also do that if I want. (y)

It looks like a slow cargo ship - easy prey. But with engineering, it boosts to over 575m/s out running most medium combat ships.
I'm not sure this complies with my definition of "honest" :ROFLMAO: ;)

The bottom large and two medium work well with gimballed long range thermal vent beam lasers. At long range the target is straight ahead, so the inability of the bottom large hard point to hit targets above you doesn't matter. Two huge gimballed overcharged mutlicannons with autoloader, a small gimballed high capacity multi cannon with corrosive effect and an efficient turret pulse laser with emissive munitions is my load out. I copied this weapons load out from Down to Earth Astronomy's "Cucumber" build (who names a Corvette Cucumber 🤷‍♂️).
It's easy to use and very effective with good DPS at ranges above 1500-3000m and even better DPS up close.
I've been thinking that now we have Sirius heatsink launchers with 5(?) heatsinks in one launcher I might be able to replace one of the heatsink launchers with another shield boosters - subject to have enough power to run it. I need 5 heatsinks for the 5 shield cell bank charges I can use.

More to the point it was a Corellian YT-1300 light freighter

Ah, is that the Millennium Falcon’s official make & model no.? …must admit i’m a fairly lightweight Star Wars fan - i love it for its campy fun & humour, though ultimately i lean more towards Kubrick & Scott in film - and Herbert, Clarke, Asimov… with Gibson and Sterling later on :]

*damn i almost forgot Philip K. D*ck and Margaret Attwood!

**is it really possible that this forum’s filter would censor one of the 20th century’s greatest SciFi writers - perhaps i should’ve mentioned George Orwell instead…?

This is interesting. I have used a T-6 for exploration - decent jump, good boost, all the internals you need etc. (EDSY - T-Sixplorer)
However, compared to the Dolphin (EDSY - Ecco Explorer), the T-6 comes a poor second. The T-6 is more expensive, has less jump distance, less jump range, less boost and less agility. In fact the dolphin can land places the T-6 could only dream of . And heat? The T-9 always runs hot while scooping but the dolphin is so cool it can charge the FSD while scooping.
And personally, I think the dolphin is a better looking ship.
