Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

You know, for a space game all about discovering new jump points, trading with alien civilizations, fighting opposing factions, farming Sandwurmies and saving humanity from the vicious onslaught of interstellar terrorists - trains and elevators seem to break more gameplay sessions than anything else.

I am so glad that trains and elevators are such an important core component of space games.
Imagine you claim you can swim across Atlantic Ocean but keep drowning walking through a puddle.

But I'm ambitious! No one's ever tried this before! And I'm using a swimming stroke I developed all by myself that will do things no one has ever done before! It's just in alpha and needs a bit of work. Buy some pics?
Don't forget guys. SC alpha, despite the bugs, is already more fun to play than some released game without bugs. So you can actually buy some pics to make sure the development continues because the fun only gets better patch after patch.

Oops. I keep forgetting that some of you are still wondering why SC funding is doing well with the current state of alpha...

Oops again. I forgot that "fun" is not relevant when we talk about a game...

You know what ambitious means in general use? That something sailed miles past its target already but it'd be so cool to hit that target eventually. It means that the project failed, the debris are ugly to look at and the prospect of salvage is minimal.

That is one opinion. Many, including me, actually think SC is less fun to play than most released games. Not only because of the bugs but because it is also fundamentally broken and incomplete (after 12+ years and half a billion spent).

This is probably the closest I've found to a 'reworked from scratch' CIG quote regarding 3.0

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD8k3M15OiY&t=595s

I mean from top to bottom we kind of ripped the heart out of the persistent universe and built what you guys are seeing right now. So there was 9 months of development time that went in before we even started branching into 3.0. Everything that we've been working on and improving...

Which would sit alongside the fanboi-dev post that Agent received around the time:

What we are rolling out now is a complete rewrite of core and branched systems. It has nothing to do with Lumberyard integration. Early 2016 the decision was made to scrap almost our entire codebase and start anew. Whilst this means years of potential new coding, our animation and art teams have continued to refine and refactor. What they produce now is purely and simply momentous. No other studio has the capacity for such amazing work. There has been thousands of custom animations and facial expressions that rival the top Hollywood computer graphics companies.

Then what is heading back to redesign? I used refactor the correct way, before I get crap for that. Everything you see currently is gone. 2.6 no longer exists. The beta we are getting out this year, and I mean this year, is a total rebuild -- not refactor, har -- of code. Flight models, first person feel, networking, persistence, items; all of what's in 2.6 is completely gone.

---

It feels kinda relevant, because CIG obviously went that way because they just couldn't move forward with what they had.

Wonder if we'll see a 2.6 moment happen for 3.18.9xyz? ;)

Is it a lot of fun with comparable price. Say 45-60 euros...
