Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Look, it's very clear what happened:
  • Frontier, after years of not caring about racing, suddenly decides to continue not caring about racing
  • After that dramatic turn of events, a youtuber throws a lot of video and forum tantrums
  • CIG sees those tantrums about racing, and invents a time-machine
  • Chris Roberts travels back through time to 2013, and announces plans to add racing to SC
  • In 2023 CIG marketing tells youtuber that they were listened to, and youtuber buys $hip$

They think this is temporary and will be fixed. Isnt that hard to explain.
Yeah, got to be that, there is literally no other explanation. These guys are backing full steam.

That wouldn't actually go against what I was saying, and what you are suggesting is probably possible, although would require some careful flying and plotting to make it happen. The reason is thus, when you are on one planet, and another collides with it, the other planet will pass right through you if you are standing there, there is no physics there, no collision map. You can see the same with planetary rings, and if you drop out in one frame of reference and fly into a planetary ring, not only do the rocks fly past at insane speeds (because they are not in your frame of reference) but they are also intangible.

So, let's imagine a really carefully set up scenario, where two players land on colliding planets, and they are positioned so at the start they are are in separate instances, but on a course so the two players will directly hit each other.

If my hypothesis is correct, then both players would simply pass through each other as the planets pass through each other. Each is within their own physics grid, but neither grid is aware of the other and no collision detection takes place as they pass by each other. The only thing that might get collision detection is the players themselves (or their ships if in ships), because i think FD specifically code for that to happen (it happens when players from different instances merge instance bubbles for example), so you might have a funny situation where the grids are passing each other, but the ships/players gets sandwiched together, possibly resulting in either something going boom or being forced through each other or the terrain.
Wasnt there a couple rings clipping through planets in ED. Is been so long. I did kinda good bye tour before ditching the game and one of the sights I wanted to see was rings. I have it now all shady in memiry - I did visit a planet with very close rings. What I recall is they just pass through each other without collision.

When was the last Chris Roberts made an appearance?
I remember the absolving himself, did he make anymore promises or give out deates after that?
Citcon?

Yeah, remember the days when he used to bother to even give a vague impression of being involved?

There once was a time that he'd pop up to defend the project against Derek Smart for crying out loud. Now he's simply discovered the dividends are still plentiful. He's probably busy with his mansion and working on some unrelated personal movie project.

Yup, backers just keep giving money. Personally I think that is the worse thing they can do.

Yes, and because you are only in the frame of reference of one of the rings, the rocks in your ring aren't appearing to move, but the rocks in the other ring are whizzing past.

Which is pretty accurate, due to how frames of reference work in reality. Remember, here on Earth, when standing still, you are not actually still compared to other frames of reference, whether it be that of Sol or the galaxy or our local group.

It isnt some youtuber thinking they were the spark that kicked off the new found interest in SC racing.

It is me, I think that. That is why I posted it.

CIG had abandoned racing module in Arena Commander. It was designed around the 2.x (hell, maybe 1.x) flight model. It does not really work with current flight model as far an enjoyability goes.

Yeah, its terrible when game devs listen to their players.
Please don't let facts get between me and laughing at entitled youtubers!
