I know we aren't doing updates anymore, but I figured I'd check on my list just out of curiosity's sake. Looks like I got 6 checks across the past three packs - although I'm still annoyed with myself for locking in the three-toed sloth back before I realized how nonexistent they were in captivity, at least it's out of the way now. For the purpose of future reflection, I'll also go ahead and write out what my hypothetical replacements would be as of right now: American black bear, common genet, radiated tortoise, southern tamandua, short-beaked echidna, Geoffroy's spider monkey.

1. California Sea Lion Tamandua
2. Capybara Wombat
3. Gibbon (any, but I assume Lar Gibbon will be the most voted on) Spectacled Bear
4. Tasmanian Devil
5. Secretary Bird
6. Honey Badger
7. Sloth
8. Kiwi
9. Moose Tree Kangaroo
10. Wolverine
11. Lynx Sea Otter
12. American Beaver Golden Lion Tamarin
13. Crested Porcupine
14. Maned Wolf
15. Howler Monkey
16. Emu
17. Platypus Takin
18. Przewalski's horse Raccoon Dog
19. Red River Hog
20. Coati
21. Roseate Spoonbill
22. Fossa
23. Musk Ox
24. Saki Monkey
25. Bald Uakar

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to check mine:
  • California Sea Lion
  • Capybara
  • Common Wombat
  • Lar Gibbon
  • Sloth (yeah I voted on this when I didnt even know the three-toed isnt really held in captivity, othervise my vote would be different)
  • Moose
  • Eurasian Lynx
  • American Beaver
  • Maned Wolf
  • Emu
  • Platypus
  • Przewalski Horse
  • Red River Hog
  • Fossa
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Kiwi
  • African Crested porcupine

Wow, I got quite a few! But looking at the rest of the list retrospectively, I would vote very differently in some cases, lol.

That was really much harder than I’ve expected to be…

I had to omit my beloved Wolverine, Honey badger and Shoebill 😖😭

3. Pere David’s deer
4. Sloth bear
5. Lion tailed macaque

So with the addition of the sloth, how do we want to proceed from here?

Originally and for a very long time, the three-toed sloth was considered the nominate species for anyone who voted for a generic sloth. Assuming Frontier referenced this list, it seemed that's what they believed the census to be, with its inclusion in the Tropical Pack.

But within the last few months, the two-toed sloth was changed to the nominate species, due to its more common presence in real world zoos.

With the inclusion of the original front-runner (the three-toed), should we readjust and recount the list to reflect three-toed as indeed the nominate one for generic votes?
Or keep it as is, and according to the community the two-toed will stay in the Number 3 spot?

Surely it would make sense to maintain the two toed sloth at #3 , many don't consider the three toed sloth as the end all option for sloth inclusions. But if a generic sloth vote has now been labelled two toed I can see a big problem with the validity of the ranking

From the beginning it was not the greatest idea to separate the sloth species especially because most people just voted for sloth and it’s not fair to put those votes in favor of two toed sloth.
In my opinion we should go back to where we have been before - generic sloth and cross it out from the list.
Most of the people when they think about sloths the visualize three toed sloth. It’s just more recognizable and I don’t really care if it’s not so popular in zoos in Europe or US. It is present in collections in South America so it really doesn’t matter.
