In PB, B1 and B2 I grinded to get the top ships (inc. Anaconda).
In B3 I didn't bother, I just went around trying out different things and not really playing all that much.
I'm in a T6 at the moment, but the Cobra is STILL my fave ship of those available to us right now (after 30 years or so). I've had just as much fun in B3 as the others.
I didn't grind for any ship, just now and again I thought "Oh I have enough for the hauler, let's do some of that and try mining." and then "Ah that should be enough for the Cobra, sweet, time to get one and get some missions sorted."
My opinion :-
Non-stop grinding to get the most expensive ship in the game in a week or so is going to burn you out and reduce your enjoyment of the game massively, but that is up to you. Why are you bothering when it gets wiped soon?
There are lots of things you can do to mix up your gameplay, so take advantage of it.
Credits will come on their own without much effort, as soon as you stop thinking about them too much.
The most expensive ships are not the best. Each ship has a purpose, so an Asp is better than a Courier even though it is cheaper, at quite a few roles. More expensive does not mean better at all things.
The ship prices right now are probably too low, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they go up overall.
Trade routes are paying too much, on average, I expect profit per ton to drop, unless you find a really out of the way route, or prices/demand is inflated due to an event.
Missions pay too much.
A lot of ships are missing. So there will be incremental ships in between something like the Type 6 and the Type 9, which will reduce the feeling of the grind a bit, but...
...the only one who makes it a grind is you.
If you enjoy the journey and the adventures you have on the way the "next big ship" is almost irrelevant; it just happens.
That said if you want to grind 24 hours a day for a week to get an Anaconda, go for it, that's the beauty of Elite, to do what you want. Just don't complain after a week that you're bored with nothing to do.
I intend to be playing for a number of years, not weeks, so I don't want to be able to grind up to every ship in a week.
If it takes me 6 months to get a Type 9, including spare CR for cargo, insurance and fittings, that's pretty cool by me.
