Update 15, the Upcoming Feature Rework and More

Again, Odyssey being rushed was bad, Frontier delaying it would have been good. Frontier announce that the Rework update is being pushed back, so now all the talk about how 'Frontier should only release things when ready' goes out of the window.
[...]
I don't think so. Most complaints I've seen weren't about the delay itself, but Frontier's lack of communication once again. They waited pretty much until the planned release to tell us they are still in the "investigation" phase and production hasn't even started.

And, as it is the forum and there are some for whom anything Frontier do is an affront, there will be the usual names with the same old complaints.
Frontier keep repeating exactly the same mistakes. Not sure what you expect the "same old names" to do about that. FRONTIER need to address that.
There is a certain pool of players and ex-players who moan and complain and demand this or that no matter what Frontier does and no matter how far fetched or technically uninformed the demands are ("DLSS when?"). There is no question that certain things need to be addressed, but if it's the posters I think Rat Catcher has in mind, most of their compaints bear little connection to the reality of ED.

Actually I have one but its only 3 people w/out a home system.. I hope you find what you want. My ps4 squadron is is 'ps4e'. On pc I'm in a other squadron which ill add I'm more serious about. H.G knows. 😉
Ping me on PSN: TITAN_REGIIS. Also see the r/elitewinterslegacy subreddit for other info

Was there any ambiguity in my comment? (which, it would appear to heve been reinforced by you own response)
The same complaints from the few, regardless of any action or inaction...

Has rewording clarified the remark?
I personally found Helmut's rephrase helpful (and I agree, there is no pleasing some people on this forum.) Beyond that, whether the ambiguity is in your writing, my reading comprehension, or over there in the box with the elk, I am going to be bold and suggest that probably no-one really cares and we should all move on.

Well, from reading around, there are some who appear to be wounded by anything frontier do, normally the armchair developers.

I already made my point about not being bothered earlier in this thread, you expressed the opposite opinion.

But, I agree, my sitting back and smiling will do instead, moving on... ;)

I wonder who they are going to blame now, PC gamers ??

Answer: Yep! But just a certain pool of players and ex-players. Every time you criticize Elite, the next update gets delayed by a year, so cut it out!

Though I am going to put on my own self-moderator hat (hey, we're all moderators of our own content) and give myself a warning that "Recent posts you made on our forums were off-topic to the thread's core discussion. This is an advisory notification. No warning points were applied via this advisory."

Okay, I'll behave now.

Fair enough, but one should consider that the planning stage is still work and can incur development time and resources. I don't know for sure of course, which leaves open the interpretation that it's just a sticky the side of someone's monitor saying "to do: rework update", but I think that's highly unlikely, don't you?
Whatever planning and development resources have been expended in that year, FDEV should have something of substance to share. If not, they would have known about it way before now and should have explained the situation much earlier. If so and the basic concept is there but needs more time to implement, then why not use their livestream set up to give some sort of preview?

Maybe a series of compound failures has led to this, ok but I'd be checking the offices for cursed monkey paws at this point.

I'm not sure what that effectively means, I think Frontier have chosen a direction
What is it then? Strictly speaking about Odyssey, I was hoping to learn about it with the release of the "rework".

High risk, who's saying that?
Me. Ok maybe not HIGH risk, but far higher than I'm comfortable with and a lot of people share these concerns and with good reason.

Fair enough, but be mindful that it isn't just influenced by some youtuber's take on things.. either directly or indirectly..

For practical purposes most realistic opinions are not going to be unique. lots of people want new ships, ship interiors, VR for Odyssey and reworked engineers and these opinions are bound to coincide with some of the popular Elite content creators out there.

Now I think Odyssey should let you start an independent bakery on any landable planet and let you decide how much powdered sugar to put on the doughnuts. I don't think any youtuber has come up with THIS idea! but I don't think its going to gain much traction sadly :(

I find it interesting that there's an update that Frontier have said is one of the biggest ever coming to the game due this month in May, further delays notwithstanding, and the entire focus of the thread is on the 'feature rework' delay. Not getting at you specifically, and I apologize if it comes across that way. I agree with your point about the 'post covid norm' aspect, among other current goings on. It's been challenging everywhere with supply chain issues etc., but how your post completely overlooked Update 15, quite likely unintentionally, made me think of this.

Edited for less late night innacuracy...
No it’s absolutely fine, your opinion on my point and I don’t take offence at all.

I just feel the way I do, I still have a bitter taste from what happened to PlayStation but at least the game can still be played there more or less as it was, we’ll leave that there.
The major feature overhaul was the main thing for me from last year’s roadmap, apart from the patches to fix the game and improve performance.

I’m happy for Update 15, and look forward to it, whatever it may fix or bring, but for me personally (being nowhere near any of the Thargoid Maelstroms and far far out of the bubble) the current narrative has little for me to get interested in. Hopefully there’s something, a new ship, a new weapon or something.

I'm probably white knighting as usual :( But I'd tend to think that the wording about the feature rework was very poor. I find it hard to believe that they haven't started on it, that they don't know what it's going to be, and that they'll start thinking about it at the end of year. What I know for sure is a whopper is that they will let us know what it's going to be when they start to work on it, they never tell us anything like that until it's about to appear in the game, or it's been released..

Most likely they've decided what it's going to be, and they've started developing the code, but for some reason they've ran out of time to include it in update 15. I think it's likely that they have reduced the development team, and this is the reason it's not in update 15, but of course it could also be that they underestimated the amount of work, or they ran into issues with the existing code base that make it take longer.

They could easily clarify if their message has been misinterpreted. No doubt they are aware of the content of the thread.

Major Feature Rework
Last year we announced a major update that would rework a long standing feature. This is still being investigated, however a number of changes (not least the Thargoid War itself) have required our attention as a priority. We will share details of this investigation and our plans towards the end of this year.
Thank you for the update. This is great news but... what about asking players what they think as a part of your "investigation"?...

Due to thargoid war 🤣

Live Mode as the Default Download
In addition to the above, we will be making the Live version of Elite the default download. This will encourage new players to try the main version of Elite with access to future updates while keeping Legacy as an optional alternative. Implementing this change will cause an update to appear for all Steam users

Does anyone know if this means I'll get that 20gigs back from Horizons that I don't want when you install from Steam? (Currently Steam installs both Odyssey and Horizons so 70+ instead of just 50+ like when you use just the launcher without steam)

I really wish Frontier would just separate Live from Legacy on Steam, so a person can download the one they want and JUST the one they want. They are two different games at this point, as much as X3 is different from X4, so sell them accordingly on Steam.

An enjoyable repetitive content with more progress please.... after reach endgame i just have a meaningless fly in the black.... saving humanity is ok but, it's just the same thargoid hunt. I want to play Elite but Elite not give me a reason to play it.
