Engineered DSS still shows unavailable after unlocking it.

I unlocked the Engineered DSS v1. Went to put one on my ship. They are not found in Outfitting.
Returned to Tech Broker, and now it says I don't have enough material to unlock it.
EDDiscovery shows it was unlocked.
Tech Broker says Nope! Sorry!
Opened a bug with Frontier.

You are "purchasing it", it won't appear in outfitting, it will already be in your module store, as long as you have free space that is. This is not a bug, this is the way it works. Confused me also at first I must admit.

I Unlocked it, tried to buy one, they're not showing, so I went back to the Tech Broker, and as you can see in the screenshot it's saying I still haven't unlocked it. The thing is I DID UNLOCK IT. Because of this I no longer have all the mats to unlock it again.

No, you DIDN'T unlock it, it CAN'T be unlocked, you can only purchase ONE at a time, then you need to gather all the materials to purchase another, it is "NOT" unlockable. The module you PURCHASED will be in your module store, if you want a second you MUST deliver the same materials again. This is how this particular module works, some other tech modules work differently and can be unlocked, NOT this one.

I don't think I can be clearer, you have purchased ONE DSS from the tech broker, it will be in your module storage, you can't simply buy more without supplying the materials again.

I traded for more scraps and unlocked the EDSS again. Was able to purchase one. Tried to purchase another and was unable to. The Tech Broker changed back to Locked again. Photo attached.
Video of successful unlock and purchase too big to post here: Video

Look seriously YOU. CAN'T. UNLOCK. IT! IT IS NOT UNLOCKABLE. YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM WITH MATERIALS ONE AT A TIME!

I am not sure where the problem is coming from, I have said it clearly several times, do you simply not understand, or do you refuse to believe?

This technology is NOT unlockable, you can't simply buy them with money, you must supply the materials every. single. time.

I think I was much more succinct at post #2. :p

Well that didn't work did it! 🍻 🍿

Check the Experimentals tab. For some reason some Tech Broker unlocks end up there.

No, it says clearly in the screenshot provided here;

That unlocking it will provide 1...that is a "single" DSS, that's all you unlock by providing the mats, a single DSS, to unlock another one you need to provide the mats again, and then it will unlock another "single" DSS, after providing the single DSS it goes back to being locked again each time.

It's confusing because the Technology Broker interface uses the terms "unlock" and "available for purchase" even for those modules that are directly manufactured. The other posters' explanations are correct, and the clue is here in your video:
engineered_dss.png
You're not "purchasing" this item in the outfitters, you're fitting one from local storage that the Tech Broker manufactured for you. It's why they're in yellow, and why there are two of them because you went through the process twice.

It really is working as intended. It's just, as with many FD things, not worded as intended.

OK whatever you say. Why then can I buy as many Corrosion Resistant Cargo Racks as I want after "Unlocking" them. According to you I should have to "Unlock" the CRCR every time I want to buy one if it is supposed to act the same as the EDSS? Or are you saying the EDSS is the only item that has to be unlocked each time if you want to buy one? To me this is a bug with the EDSS.

Because some things are "unlocks" and some things are "buy with materials", like pre-engineered DSS and FSD for example.

I think some of the AX weaponry is also "buy with materials" - I am not up to speed on all things that are "unlocks" or "buy with materials" (INARA can tell you).

Why? because this 👇 you had the answer in the post #2

Because consistency is not a word over at Frontier.

The old tech/guardian broker stuff were Unlocks, like the CRCR you mentions
Other newer stuff - like the DSS or the 5A FSD V1 or the modded Guardian weapons sold at Prospect Deep in Mbooni or the modded Heat Sinks sold on Sirius megaships are purchases, not unlocks. You pay materials, you purchase one module

Then, the latest addition to (certain) tech brokers, the Caustic Heat Sink - it's also an Unlock
Why?

Because consistency is not a word over at Frontier.

Yes, consistency is not a word at Frontier.

As a retired Validation Engineer, it bugs me to no end that they allow these bugs to exist without any difference between one item and another. So I'll continue to "waste" FD's time with bug reports. Pure idiocy.

Well, on the other hand, maybe we are the baddies...

After all, there is a pattern here - all "new" modules are Unlocks ( the old CRCR, the guardian weapons but also the Caustic Sink Launcher), and All modifications to existing modules are Purchases (the modded DSS, the modded FSD, the modded HeatSinks, the modded guardian weapons)

🤔

How can it be a bug? They are just different methods for specific things i.e. modified kit or not. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a bug.

What's with the "according to you" and "people say"? We're just pointing you to the facts. Facts matched by your own experiences.

It is inconsistent, and the clarity of the wording on some of the interface elements leaves much to be desired. Nobody is defending FD on those aspects. But it is working as intended once you know what the intent is, and it even makes some internal sense if you know which bits of the interface from which to cherry-pick the pertinent words and which to ignore.

If you want to report a bug, report the contradictory text. Who knows, if FD ever decide to pick some low hanging fruit they might even change it one day. But reporting it as "unlocking the DSS doesn't work like unlocking the cargo racks" is just wasting everyone's time. They're not supposed to work in the same way.

And if the two types of Tech Broker transaction are confusing, you'd best avoid trying to figure out why the 2 x +20% pre-modified DSS has a better radius than the +50% G5 engineered one...

Welcome to the world of FD.
