Guide / Tutorial How to fill all of your Raw Materials bins using Crystalline Shards.

Quick note on the "Hip 36601 C1A site 5 Polonium" location in Horizons - seems to be not spawning. I collected only a single needle crystal of Polonium. all the rest, c.6, were crystal shards of various G3-4 mats.

I think you may confusing things and went in a GEO site instead of a BIO site

BIO sites will contain only Crystalline Shards and will drop ONLY the advertised G5 material, in the case of Hip 36601 C1A that is only Polonium
Edit: and usually you can fill your stash 0-150 without depleting a Crystalline Shard location (in Horizons)

Looks like the Antimony prospecting at Outotz LS-K D8-3 B5C Site 3 is off in Horizons. Checked EDO, same result. Anyone else see this?

4.0 (Horizons and Odyssey) no longer has numbered POIs. The bio/geo features are spread all over the surface so you have to drop down to 50m and skim the surface using eyeballs mk1 to find Shards.

Edit, however, someone has posted coordinates for bigger concertation of shards some previous page

And, seemingly for the first time in this thread unbelievably, some actual coordinates for reasonably sized crystal clusters in EDO, it was suggested I add these here:

HIP36601 C 1 a Polonium: -57.4599, 126.9543

HIP36601 C 1 d Ruthenium: -51.2639, 14.7291

HIP36601 C 3 b Telluruim: -17.6769, -55.1800

HIP36601 C 5 a Technetium: 3.5500, 111.5415

Outotz LS-K d8-3, B 5 a Yttrium: -1.9216 -145.7013

Outotz LS-K d8-3, B 5 c Antimony: -62.4905 80.2426

For those of us who find raw farming, hours of non-productive time that we will never get back.

BTW people talk about HIP36601 and Outotz LS-K d8-3, in the same lists, paragraphs etc like they're all together, THEY'RE NOT!! They're >400 bl**dy light years apart. Thank God I happened to be using my carrier.
o7 and thank you CMDR! Can only imagine the effort it took to find these. I'd been using the heatmap on planets that it said had crystalline structures, and I couldn't see any difference, anywhere between "ALL" and "crystalline," which I think would be the way to do it.

Also not slagging anyone but funny what you said about this thread having been 10+ pages deep without anyone providing coordinates.

Oops, yeah I'm sorry. I only got EDO within the last month and just so that I could instance with people who also had it. (Instancing with Horizons is problematic when both players are in "Horizons", but one has Odyssey and the other Horizons only.) So I wasn't thinking about the timeframe. Good point. :) o7

Will you explain what the heatmap is and how to use it please.
The "heatmap" is an overlay on the planetary body that appears in the Detailed Surface Scanner interface after you have completed the scan, if the body contains any geological or biological sites. The overlay covers the planet in different shades of blue, which represent the locations of specific types of sites. These names of these sites are also displayed, and you can toggle through them so that the overlay changes to show which shades correspond to which specific sites. It can take a good eye and as I indicated upthread I found the "crystalline shards" sites which contain the G4 raw mats impossible to see. But they probably are visible if you are close enough to the surface, albeit tiny, based on what others here have said (I'm inferring).

Not sure ive seen this anywhere else (no doubt not reading the entire thread will bite), but the shard sites in Odyssey, dont f@nny around shooting with the srv, get out and use your handgun, drop 10 -20 at a time jump in srv and collect, so much quicker and easier
I agree that disembarking and gunning them down is more fun and easier than in the SRV. But you'd have to be quick to do even 10 at a time in order to have time to get back in the SRV and collect them before their "hull" depletes ie they disappear. I'm an Odyssey beginner. Will try to keep better track of where the structures are that I'm shooting in relation to where the SRV is parked, cuz obviously the materials you've shot down won't appear in targets unless you're within range.

I will have to pay special attention in future. So far I have never seen such a thing despite being notified of Biological and Geological signals after a scan.
I did notice that the interface has bugs though. Perhaps they are preventing me from seeing the heatmaps.

I have been told of a system where you can find high quantities of Selenium.
HIP 83204 3 B A
Sites 1, 2, 8 and 10 are easy to farm and fit an anaconda easily
Props go to Commander AltairRules for this discovery
Could someone one tell me how do I find these sites? I only get 3 signals when I scan the planet's surface and none of these show up on my nav computer.

The system has changed - they no longer show up as POI - you have to go down and search in the blue areas using the MkI eyeball. The OP got edited to give co-ordinates so maybe that will be of help.

Yup.
Fundamentally, the OP was written for the pre-Odyssey game, and has only had a light update with some Odyssey-specific info. I can see how it'd be pretty confusing for a beginner to the game.
Tip: if I'm not mistaken, any guides that mention numbered biological/geological sites are not for Odyssey.

Is there only one site for each material? Without coordinates (or signals), there's no way to find anything, especially not in the dark where we can't see anything. How long does it take for the sites to regrow?

What were the developers thinking when they decided that we don't need raw materials anymore :( Are they planning to kill off all engineering? Why are there not at least missions that give raw materials in worthwhile quantites as rewards?

At least we need some kind of discovery limpets that we can send all over a planet by the thousands which place beacons where stuff can be found in worthwhile quantities, and we need to be able to carry a very large supply of those.
