Guide / Tutorial How to fill all of your Raw Materials bins using Crystalline Shards.

So its either Hyades Sector EW-V c2-9 planet 3 a a or Kuan Yin planet 8 e a or Bodiae planet 7 c a.

In horizon ice planets with water geyseres are flat as pancakes.
I had a look at the edtools table and those planets are just two from quite a few that satisfy the recipe of having Se,V,Zr. How did you pick them out from the rest?
(My particular list had 29 planets in total.)

Hyades Sector EW-V c2-9 planet 3 a a
Picked up a nice haul of Se there by shooting mesosiderites :)
(I'm now wondering if you pruned the list of planets by choosing just the ice planets with water geysers? Even when I try that though, I'm finding way more than just the 3 above.)
Having done so, I've belatedly noticed that the edtools.cc site says "To find Selenium, map the planet, go to geological sites and shoot Crystalline Frangments." but if I remember correctly, that's the way you go about getting the other grade 4 raw mats, yes? Or maybe I'm just confused. (It's late, and I don't fancy re-reading 11 pages of the thread :ROFLMAO:)

They might have limited the list by just selecting the ones with the highest percentages.

The Fragments, Clusters and Needles had in Horizons the higher grade materials present on that planet with the probability of one being present in any particular target related to the percentage.

How to fill your boots with Raw Mats using Crystalline Shards

Some of us have discovered a new form of materials gathering that can, with a little effort, be used to gather every material needed to compeletely fill all of your raw materials bins.
I have decided to share that knowlege here with you all.

The first thing you need is to know where to find all this lovely stuff. so here is a chart of all the publicly known locations.

Crystalline Shards on the edge of the Sanguineous Rim region and in the Formadine Rift
The first thing you need, apart from a decent jump range, is a SRV bay.
The materials you will be gathering are only the ones obtainable from the Shards.

Do not concern yourself with the Pecious Cobbles as they don't have anything of value to this project and will waste your time.
Here is my suggested circuit for gathering the required materials.
At each location use your surface scanner to reveal all the POIs
The biological POIs are the ones you are interested in as they are the ones that have the Crystalline shards.
It's worth scanning the shards and cobbles with your Composition Scanner when you are closer to landing, as you will gain new materials discoveries.
You will need to use your night vision as you will eventually need to land on POIs on the dark side.
Make a note of each POI that you have visited as you will clean them out and they take weeks to regenerate.
Don't worry there's plenty of them.

Don't do this in a wing as there will not be enough to go around.
Part a.
1. Travel to HIP 36601 C 1 a and collect Polonium
2. Travel to HIP 36601 C 1 d and collect Ruthenium
3. Travel to HIP 36601 C 3 b and collect Tellurium
4. Travel to HIP 36601 C 5 a and collect Technetium

Thanks to Commander F4fred
Some easier to work sites for you
Hip 36601 C1A site 5 Polonium
Hip 36601 C1D site 3 Ruthenium
Hip 36601 C3B site 5 Tellurium
Hip 36601 C5A site 4 Technetium

When each bin is filled (It takes 150 units per material) return to your favourite Materials Broker (The nearest may be Hinz Hub @Ngobe) and trade them down to fill as many low grade bins as you can.
Be aware that there's a bug where you can only load 100 of 100 units. If that happens board your ship and check your inventory. You will now see you have 100 of 150 units and can redeploy for the last 50 units.

Until Hinz Hub is repaired the nearest might well be the station given below:

Rinse and repeat till all the Mats below are full then you need to fill the Selenium bin as this is the only high grade material for which a shard has so far not been discovered.
This item alone will take two trips as the exchange rate is 6:1
Part b.
Follow the last trip with:

5.Travel to Outotz LS-K D8-3 B 5 c and collect Antimony
6.Travel to Outotz LS-K D8-3 B 5 a
and collect Yttrium

Easier sites
Outotz LS-K D8-3 B5A Site 15 Yttrium
Outotz LS-K D8-3 B5C Site 3 Antimony

7. Go Home!

I have been told of a system where you can find high quantities of Selenium.
HIP 83204 3 B A
Sites 1, 2, 8 and 10 are easy to farm and fit an anaconda easily
Props go to Commander AltairRules for this discovery

If you get into serious bother and find you need a station to repair/restock.
The nearest is Flaming Star Logistics Centre at Flaming Star Sector LX-T b3-0

You may find that you need an extra trip if you are particulary low on basic materials but I completed the project with 4 round trips combining parts a&b.
It's possible that combining Parts a & b for all trips might be more efficient.
I'll let you work that one out.

Just come across this most excellent summary, and just finished fill al those buckets, excepting Selenium - another outing when I'm in the Bubble again. Cheers!

And, seemingly for the first time in this thread unbelievably, some actual coordinates for reasonably sized crystal clusters in EDO, it was suggested I add these here:

HIP36601 C 1 a Polonium: -57.4599, 126.9543

HIP36601 C 1 d Ruthenium: -51.2639, 14.7291

HIP36601 C 3 b Telluruim: -17.6769, -55.1800

HIP36601 C 5 a Technetium: 3.5500, 111.5415

Outotz LS-K d8-3, B 5 a Yttrium: -1.9216 -145.7013

Outotz LS-K d8-3, B 5 c Antimony: -62.4905 80.2426

For those of us who find raw farming, hours of non-productive time that we will never get back.

BTW people talk about HIP36601 and Outotz LS-K d8-3, in the same lists, paragraphs etc like they're all together, THEY'RE NOT!! They're >400 bl**dy light years apart. Thank God I happened to be using my carrier.

I'm probably missing the point here, but do you find coordinates more usable than the site numbers in the OP?

Thank you for this. If you don't mind I will verify this and add it to my original post. I will, of course, credit you with it.
I have submitted an Issue on this in the issue tracker. Please feel free to add to it.

Not sure ive seen this anywhere else (no doubt not reading the entire thread will bite), but the shard sites in Odyssey, dont f@nny around shooting with the srv, get out and use your handgun, drop 10 -20 at a time jump in srv and collect, so much quicker and easier

I'm in Outotz LS-K D8-3 B5C atm on Horizons, landed at Site 3 first, and found the number of Needle Crystals spawning seemed to be way down - 4 collected at Site 3. Working through the rest of the Geological Sites at B5C atm, tends to be a mxiture (so far) of 1-3 Antimony-yielding Needle Crystals spawning. At Site 2 atm.

Is anyone else noticing this since the last FDev update?

Hi, so are the sites Horizons only? And are they spawning in Odyssey, or is it only the co-ords?

The sites in OP are in Horizons (only). And you need to check BIO sites not Geo.
In Odyssey (or Horizons 4.0) the Bio/Geo Points of Interest (POIs) are completely missing and to find large patches of Crystalline Shard we have to revert to eye-balling the landscape while flying at very very low altitude, basically skimming the surface at a low speed. Or to use the SRV

The coordinates that were posted recently are from Odyssey and should represent larger patches of Crystalline Shards.

Quick note on the "Hip 36601 C1A site 5 Polonium" location in Horizons - seems to be not spawning. I collected only a single needle crystal of Polonium. all the rest, c.6, were crystal shards of various G3-4 mats.

Ignore this - as Northpin highlights, check the Bio sites, not the Geo sites.
