Elite Dangerous Update 15 NOW LIVE - Release Notes

I tried to use my DS4 for just FSS and the maps. It kept going to sleep in between, which locked up Joystick Gremlin, which then killed half my HOTAS mappings. Are you using yours for all gameplay?
Yeah, everything. DS4/Shield TV/Geforce Now setup. I got a mini usb keyboard to plug in so I can type in names rather than pick out each letter on a virtual keyboard, but I only use that for text search in the galaxy map and naming ships. All gameplay is via DS4.

Which doesn't sleep. Since I lost my rumble in the console transfer the battery lasts all day anyway...

Disclaimer - I can only speak for Horizons 3.8. I use(d) my DS4 for most things, including system and galaxy map. In fact, it's wonderful for navigating the galaxy map, better than K&M in my opinion. I don't use mouse at all (or at most very rarely), but I do use keyboard for some things like toggling lights and other such shortcuts, but I'd say 95% of my interaction with Elite is DS4 controller alone. After cutting my teeth on the console version of Elite, this is just the most comfortable way for me to play (and it also is great for VR).

I started on PS4 with a HOTAS. The DS4 was only used for text input, but it never went to sleep. I'm now using DS4Windows, and it's connected to my PC via bluetooth. I never found a way to stop it from sleeping in that configuration (other than regular input). Thanks for the info, I might try it again after I get my setup simplified.

I recently noticed that the on-foot audio cues had reset to "muted", so you could check if that is the case.
The main problem was that booking APEX flights seems to be broken (at least from planet surfaces, I haven't checked from stations) - the system map was saying there were no drop-off points available anywhere, no matter which system I chose. So they wouldn't pick me up.

Okay, that very well may be the difference - I always play with my controller connected via USB cable.

Indeed it was. Now.. when's update 16?
yes, when and what ?
  • possibility to enter the center of the center of the maelstrom (with the help of new caustic shield module, unlocked with the new materials of the update 15)
  • removing the limit of the number of FC in a system

I wonder if this happens with windowed without borders mode. I got rid of a weird mousing problem by setting fullscreen and then going back to windowed wo borders mode.

Good point - I'm not using Bluetooth either, I got one of these second-hand:

It's just a USB dongle to go in the back of the Shield TV/PC, that you can then pair your controller to. Bluetooth generally worked OK for me, but could be a bit laggy now and again, while with the dongle it's uniformly responsive. It's probably the reason why the DS4 stays awake.

I only really got the dongle since I hoped I'd be able get my rumble back, but I never did.

You forgot to list that Thargoid scouts now spawn enraged and deal at least 5x the damage they did before. Wil come at you in groups of 10 should you try your luck at base defense (also enraged) and will pop a tanky shardaconda like a zit.. AX Solo is no longer possible sadly.

An update on the issue with the Proteus/Guardian Structure/Crashed thargoid ships out in Trapezium sector: whatever broke these sites with update 14 (causing a game crash when you got close) has been fixed. However the guardian structure has still been renamed to "Ancient Ruins" for some reason.

As for the Steroid Scouts, FD know about the issue and it's mentioned in the U15 Recap post Sally published today and which landed on page 3 or so too ;)

Unclear whether that change is intended or not, though.

O7,
🙃

I just wanted to pass along a thank you for two improvements that may seem small, but I would buy a pint for all if I weren't over here in the US:
  • Grouping of carriers. I worship the ground you walk on, whomever did this
  • Carrier no longer plots routes when I'm browsing the map. Also worship-worthy lol

Hi all. I've been pointing out that FDev's being shy about their accomplishments with Update 15. Unexpected fixes, new cool features like FC stacking, some are even seeing frame rate performance improvements. Shout it out, FDev, and take a victory lap. You've done well with this update.

The one tiny bit of feedback on the smallest of regression is that missions in Update 15 do not default to being selected. One of the best things that Odyssey (4.0) brought over Horizons (3.8) is that you landed on a station and your missions were click, click, click, deliver, done. Now you open the missions depot, but the mission is not selected by default so you have to click to select first, then finish it.

I did say it was small :) Not the end of the world but for us HOTAS users, it was a single button click-through to deliver our missions and now it needs two button actions.

Seconding that and using a controller, i do miss another small thing that is consistent UI-wraparound across all screens; we used to be able to move the caret left on left side and it would wraparound to right, and vice versa. (it makes for a much smoother and faster input flow)
If i'm not mistaken from what i saw during Horizons development, it may already be known.

I do have one major/minor ask: Making the outfitting screen FOV-agnostic. (i realize quite a few things ties into it, which is why i say major/minor :) )

For Commanders who chose to 'blaze their own trail' wholly in the direction of Exploration
I hope some dev sees this:

This should not just resolve around the issue with propulsion elements. There are still a couple of things explorer would celebrate, for example that systems change to guardian civ in the galaxy map once you found something there. There are systems where you can collect the blueprints for guardian tech but they are not part of the guardian civ filter in the galaxy map. This is a bit weird. You, the devs, put alot of effort into the galaxy map, trading routes, population, government state etc etc but the civ filter seems to be forgotten in my opinion. The great ui imporvements can go even further into the right direction especially with the civ filter.
