The Ultimate, Essential Bird Meta-Wishlist (Habitat AND Aviary)

Is the secretary bird the most single voted SPECIES?

I like how is organized by groups of birds to show what groups are more requested bueno maybe we could get a list ranked by single species?

List has been updated!

We're more than 2/3rds of the goal to 100 users!! Spread the word (that is indeed, the bird) and let's cross the benchmark!

Ducks have officially crossed over 90, and are only 5 votes away from being the first group to hit 100!

As requested by @NachoB , I've included a new Top 10 chart of the top most requested individual bird species. Much like the main Meta-Wishlist, the Secretary Bird is the most requested bird, followed by the previous long-running champion, the Toco Toucan.

Weekly community poll:
What are some of your favorite zoos in real life? Do they have your favorite bird species there?
Being a tour guide at thr Bronx, I'm quite biased but I love of World of Birds and other bird centric exhibits - such as the Northern Ponds (home to my beloved ducks), and the Sea Bird Aviary, which houses our Magellanic Penguin colony. We also have some of my favorites such as Toco toucans, kiwis, pelicans, snowy owls (Hedwig and Piper), Josephine the Bald Eagle, Peanut to Yellow crested cockatoo (my queen), and the EXTREMELY friendly ambassador Southern ground Hornbill, Gaston.

Hmmm… this one is a tough one. Bronx holds a special place to my heart because it showed me, someone who has only has been exposed to subpar middle eastern zoos and Prospect Park Zoo, the amazing things zoos could do. I also had my once in a lifetime experience that is the summer school/camp which was the most fun I had in my life during those days. If it wasn’t for the Bronx I probably would have given up on animals since there’s nothing in Turkey that could continue fueling my interest towards animals.

However when I was fourteen years old I was dazzled by my visit to Berlin. There, I got to see many “basic” species for the first and second time such as orangutans, rhinoceros, and okapi. The buildings there had so much soul despite the lack of appeal to nature.

There is one more contender to this fight for the best. I was lucky enough to have a nice little trip in Europe. That trip, Berlin got a new rival for the place of the best zoo in Europe, which came in ten form of Prague. Despite the fact that this zoo is on a slope, making it near impossible to finish in a single day. However, Prague has a great collection with a focus toward parrots, water birds, reptiles, and hoofstock. Prague also has what might be my favorite exhibit of all time which is known as “Africa Up Close”. This exhibit Is loaded with cool small mammals which are also accompanied with herps and insects. Species include honey badger, fenec, bat-eared fox, two species of bush baby, cape ground squirrel, porcupines, and much more. “Africa Up Close” really have boosted Prague Zoo for me and I hope I can revisit it again soon.

The only thing that sucks about all three zoos is that well, I didn’t even grow up in the same country as them, but that’s not the zoos’s fault. At least I got to visit them so that’s something to be thankful.

The best Zoos I have visited are the Bronx Zoo, the National Zoo, and the Columbus Zoo. They were all really cool institutions. Actually I did visit the Granby Zoo in Quebec (or Montreal) and I remember that one being cool. A surprisingly cute zoo I visited was the Bermuda Zoo and Aquarium on the island of Bermuda. For seeing my favorite birds I like local species, so Squam Lake Natural Science center has some very cool birds I can see in Northern New Hampshire. I visited Buttonwood Park Zoo in Massachusetts with my brother recently, and they have a huge collection of waterfowl. Something like over 10 species if not more.

Interesting from the top 10 that, for me, having both roseate spoonbill and scarlet ibis would be kinda repetitive. I mean, they both are red and from the same biome and with very similar geographic range. So if we get roseate spoonbill I'd rather have a different species of ibis, and if we get scarlet ibis I'd rather have a different species of spoonbill.
But I absolutely want a spoonbill, an ibis (or two!) and more wading birds.

So your saying like:

Scarlet ibis and royal spoonbill
Or
Glossy ibis and roseate spoonbill

Or something like that

Kind of interesting that the Northern Brown Kiwi didn't make it to the top 10
I'm surprised by this as well! Especially considering that amongst the 4 birds that are currently in the Top 20 on the Main Meta-Wishlist, the other three made it in (Secretary Bird, Shoebill, and Grey Crowned Crane).

Honestly, this list has been full of surprises. I NEVER would have guessed ducks would be in Number one, with a consistently high margin - I'm not complaining as this might surprise some of you around here, but I actually really like ducks 😲

Prior to making the list, I would have thought macaws would take the number one spot, eagles would be over owls, and pelicans would be higher. Never thought the lammergeier would be the favorite vulture either.
Some things are less surprising - the Toco Toucan being the top pick until recently; snowy owl, bald eagle, and black swan being the faves amongst their categories; and the overall healthy balance of aviary and habitat picks.

I think owls are higher since theyd work better with current mechanics then Eagles would. A Barn Owl would love to see in the walkthrough exhibit but a harpy Eagle on the other hand wouldn't fit too well.
