Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

CQC is actually quite good. I have played a bit more of it than arena commander though but I must say CQC imo does a really good job in most fronts. Flight model, fluidity, map layouts and balance etc. And in VR it is just a dream. The main bits that CQC falls short imo is the fact it is pretty much decoupled from the rest of the game and that there is no way to arrange for non ranked private matches.

If FDEV decided to integrate it into the game via, say, community goals and lore, with some actual in game stations hosting tourneys impacting BGS or the like that would be awesome.

If i cant go in there with my FDL to practice FA off rail gun shots without the pain of death, fuel, ammo etc I'll pass.

And that is why AC is orders of magnitude better. It applies to the actual game.

Meh? I do not mind not having my FdL at all in CQC so 🤷‍♂️ . CQC has been designed and balanced from the ground up to apply to a very specific set of ships, and that, in addition to its much better flight model (imo), map layouts, availability in VR etc I think make it actually a much better experience and game/module overall than Arena Commander can ever be. But that is just me of course.

Are you implying the main game isnt balanced? 😲

shocking!

Not implying anything about the main game (Elite) there, no, if that is what you mean. Was actually comparing CQC to the absolute lack of balance in Star Citizen, Arena Commander or otherwise. The fact CIG designs the game around pay to win vehicles and jpgs tends to increase significantly the risk of sending any balance considerations out the window.

Looks like you dont about balance in either game.

CIG aint very good at designing around pay to win vehicles when the about the cheapest ones smack the much more expensive ones around.

Will have to disagree there I am afraid. One thing I hope you can agree though, in general, is that when your main source of income is selling (some) assets that are much more powerful and effective than starter pack ones etc, instead of selling a great game for what it is, the game balance is always at a much larger risk than other games where design and funding do not depend in selling those assets.

Some companies have a very strong discipline and careful game design, and manage to pull that off despite the pay to win. CIG, discipline? design? not so much.

That's like saying you'd prefer to play Overwatch with a character is that more powerful than any other character in the game.

There is a reason arena games spend a lot of effort balancing the various characters/classes, so people can play any of them and its mainly a game of skill rather than character/class (or in the case of CQC, a ship). No, FD didn't get the balance right, but allowing any ship into CQC would mean there would just become a meta build or two and everything else would largely be ignored.

Plus then, you'd be tying CQC to the engineer grind and locking out people who don't care for that.

Ooof, just imagine if FD did allow CQC with any ship you had, and then sold ships for real world money.

I think the forums would melt.

No. I am more concerned with the main game than the offshoot arena part. I'd want them both to be balanced but would sacrifice arena balance to get better main game balance.

You want to get better at combat in general and pvp specifically....

Arena Commander is over the top useful for getting better at Star Citizen.

CQC is close to pointless for getting better at Elite Dangerous.

You went to the PVP Hub system back in the day. It would be so much better if that was supported by the game. Dont have to deal with all the time getting set up etc and can just fight.

And I can't believe you are denying the committed CQC player the fun and engaging gameplay that is/was engineering. I'm sure if they were prodded to engineer they would love it!

Dreading the day something like engineering comes to SC..........

I agree with Sovapid that CQC and AC should have separate modes where players can bring their MMO-earned stuff into quick deathmatches for practice fights, alongside modes that have balanced, specific-loadouts for fair and equal practice fights.

That is a good point on one of the things that sucks about AC. If you buy a Gladius in game in SC, you dont get it in AC. Only ships you've bought for cash do you default get in AC.

You can rent ships in AC, but it is a different currency and it is dumb.

There's so many 'if Frontier did that' type scenarios that would result in a thermonuclear mushroom cloud of salt and anger, but hey, it's Star Citizen, so it's all good. "Bestest most fidellatious game evar, don't know why you plebs still play Elite.."
