No Single Player offline Mode then?

Maybe you are blind to the fundamental irony here.

Allow me to enlighten you: even whilst in the middle of playing a computer game - even one as immersing as ED promises to be - it's still just a computer game. And if I want to divert my attention.away from the screen even *during* gameplay due to my "priorities in life", then I will do just that.
-
So I did that last time I played beta - a couple of weeks ago now. Stopped my basic Eagle far away from destination to attend to family matters.
-
When I came back a few minutes later my hull was at 10% and decreasing because I was being pounded by another player. No comms. No nothing. No bounty on me. No challenge for the other player. Just sat there stationary being blown up.
-
Although it's just a game - that moment took away the *precious* time I'd invested in it.
-
It could be argued, therefore, that offline mode is a strong requirement for anyone who has other "priorities in life".
-

You can avoid the same issue by playing the solo not-offline mode. Or docking up. Or dropping out of supercruise in the middle of nowhere so that you're less likely to encounter ships of any kind let alone other players. I don't understand why you need a special game mode to accomplish something which can already be done without it.

The language and tone used in many of these pieces - sounds like a lot of these "journalists" are also sour backers - so instead of critical pieces and right of replies, we get accusatory newspeak propoganda.

I'm sure they have approached Frontier for comment also. He was asking for community feedback interviews and quite right too.

No they do not have a right at all, this game is still in beta, if they want an interview let it be from the devs, not from a group of angry emotional people. this is a private Beta forum, they shouldnt be able to post in this forum at all, it is for people that have paid money early to have kickstarter/Alpha/Beta acsess.

Strange though that all these people complaining have been happily playing this game since their pledge date dont you think, so their internet connections have been working well enough up until now.

Not everyone... Some of us (can we spell "OSX users" for example) are unlikely to have had a single session.

You forget the Group which want Offline because of personal Reasons.... (Familiy/RL/not 24/7 on/need no Competion) ... have you a solution for them???
I think that also valueable reasons....

I'd camp that group with #1 here - that's pretty much the same as no internet access.

Except for "No competition" - for that you still have solo online mode.

Better not be. They can still salvage this with some good communication and a reasonable compromise. I'm afraid if they just walk away, I'll definitely be pursuing a refund, and I'll never have good word to say about FD ever again. Let's see how they play it.

Actions speak louder than words.

If you're unhappy, contact them privately and ask for a refund. What's the point in waiting around and stamping your feet trying to get your own way when the whole thing can be solved quickly and easily?

Sorry man...it an discussion between Gamers which right now in such good mood....maybe better ask Frontier Development about an Interview.....just only my 2 cent

I've already written David Braben with the request to answer a couple of questions. From my end however the players should be given a voice too. I could just scan this thread for quotes but I prefer talking to people directly if possible.

Actually they didn't

Elite had 8 * 256 stars
Frontier had 513,982,470 unique systems, as did FF:E

In both cases these were static universes, exactly the same for every copy of the game. The player had very little influence on the outcome and change of it.

Elite: Dangerous is 400 billion stars (that's 400,000,000,000,000) and as per the design it's not static, it's dynamic - it's ever changing influenced by the tides created by thousands of players, each one with their own story.

We were promised a game with offline play. If they had realised back then that it would not have been possible with 400 billion stars they should have said so a long time ago.

Ed even admitted on the kickstarter page that the game deviated away from offline-capable months ago. They should have dropped the bombshell then, not on Friday.

Personally I don't care that the game has 400 billion stars or 500 million ones. If that's what makes offline mode impossible, I'd take 500 million + offline any day. I won't be able to get to more than 100k of them anyway.

Nope sorry you obviously have not read the thread through, stats were given out by mods on this topic and its proven to be approx 100 complainers making the thread so long due to posting up to 150+ times. Then you have countless people on the other side telling them to calm down etc and that's not to mention all those that are sat on the fence.

Think before you post or at least read the thread more thoroughly.

Source? ...

Might be an idea if you bothered to pay attention to where people stand before jumping to conclusions. I have no intention of "stamping my feet". As I've already said, I'm weighing up how I feel about it, and deciding if I want to request a refund for *some* of the money I pledged. I've no intention of throwing any toys out of the pram. I'd still have backed ED if it was on-line only from the start, but I wouldn't have backed it for the same amount. Also, there will be plenty of people requesting refunds, so contacting them privately seems more like a foot-stamping exercise, when I could just sit back, wait to see if they make a statement, and see what their position is. Not much point hitting them with another support ticket at the moment when they almost certainly have a barrage to deal with.

I'd post a link to one of my earlier comments discussing the timing matter... But I'm new on the forum so no linking allowed for me!

Most of the pieces major sites were reasonably balanced, I thought. It's the random smaller sites I've never heard of before but are apparently "massive" that have news items littered with plain incorrect info before they even get on to the right or wrong of Frontier's decision.

I, I, I, I...yea we get it you want a lot of things, some of which even go against the original design mechanics of the game.

If you are only thinking of yourself then yes go ahead and continue complaining about a feature that if added will hurt the overall project and give you an old fashioned and stale offline one player experience.

Don't expect any change on the decision tho, just in case you thought repeating the same mantra over and over might make a difference i'd suggest reading the FD posts on why this change was made first.

I see now this is where you get your kicks, so it would not be impolite or discourteous of me to just ignore your posts.....unhelpful.

Yes. Lets silence the people affected, and base our entire article on the completely unbiased answers from the developers. Great journalism right there.

And Beta Discussion is not a private section, anyone can access this.

Only the Private Backers and old Alpha threads are locked out to those without access.

for those concerned about not being able to 'pause' live play, thus interfering with your family life or whatever

isn't the answer to simply log out of the game?
