Just for fun: Guess the Desert DLC roster!

Coming in late, so I guess the first four are more or less set in stone (with small amounts of wiggle room) at this point:
  • Dromedary
  • African crested porcupine
  • Horned viper
  • Black rhinoceros
Assuming it is a true desert/drylands theme:
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Patagonian mara
  • Greater rhea
  • Coatimundi
But I still can’t shake the idea that this might be a safari pack or whatever you want to call it, in which case:
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Serval
  • Grey-crowned crane
  • Greater kudu

If it is indeed a Safari pack of sorts then i would like to see:

1. Secretary bird
2. Greater kudu
3. Grey crowned crane
4. Whatever carnivore: serval, ratel, jackal

I guess two birds is to much of a wishfull thinking so a baboon could take the place of the crane as well, although for a safari pack i feel like the olive baboon is more fitting.

That being said, everything feels like a desert pack... i'm just a bit disappointed that the rhino (an animal that actually i really wanted) is taking the place of another desert ungulate from somewhere else in the world. I'm sure is going to look amazing though and i'm happy we'll finally get the three star rhinos. Sure sumatran are cool but after the black rhino i consider this group pretty much complete. The two african rhinos are just too iconic to left any of them out of the final roster.

Here is mine:

  1. Dromedary Camel
  2. African Crested Porcupine
  3. Black Rhinoceros
  4. Secretary Bird or Greater Roadrunner
  5. Hamadryas Baboon or Honey Badger
  6. Collared Peccary
  7. Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby, Coyote or Addax
  8. Saharan Horned Viper

I already made mine (what I thought was likely), but after the livestream, so far so good.
  • Dromedary: I am pretty happy about this potential addition! Its iconic enough to already have decor in-game and is a true desert inhabitant. It will also be the first herbivore mammal native to Israel and surrounding areas!
  • Crested Porcupine: They are beautiful. Any zoo type rodent is welcome and this one is the first of its kind in-game.
  • Black Rhino: I WAS a little disappointed (we already have the white rhino) but after a quick search for pictures online I am pleased to add this IMO prettier species into the game. They do look quite different and I think they are cooler looking in some ways.
  • Horned Viper: Not into snakes but some are.
I'm hoping its an African safari pack. I think there is more chance to get cool animals. Now for what I like...
  • A Carnivore: 1) Bat-eared Fox is unique to other foxes we have in game in its markings and its diet. 2) Black-backed Jackal would be ok in that its pretty and iconic. 3) Honey Badger is one that's unique/kind of cute and I think would make the community happy. 4) Banded Mongoose to compliment the meerkat. 5) African Civet I'd actually be almost as happy with this one as the bat-eared fox.
  • An Antelope: 1) Eland is the largest antelope completely different to what is in-game. 2) Greater Kudu is pretty and well-represented in zoos (or maybe that's lesser) 3) Impala I'd be ok with him. 4) Klipspringer would be awesome as the first tiny hoofstock
  • Rock Hyrax: Cute little tiny supposedly elephant-like thing.
  • A Bird: I'd hope for the African Crowned Crane but any ground-dwelling bird from Africa I could see.

1. Dromedary Camel
2. Black Rhino
3. African Crested Porcupine
4. Persian Onager
5. Secretary Bird
6. Javelina
7. Lace Monitor
8. Horned Viper

Heres my wishfullfillment pack:
  • Dromedary: We all know its coming and i got no problem with that. Very versatile animal, from an underrepresented area, domestic, posterchild of deserts and especally desert travel, im sure of any animal thats "just" an ungulate it will be by far one with the most varried ways to fit them into our zoos
  • Hamadryas Baboon: Imo the real bread winner, baboons are missing badly in the roster and some arabian representation would be very nice
  • African spurred tortoise: We need more reptiles and a desert tortoise thats not only super common in zoos but also not an island species would be a great cmone for this pack. It also might pave the way for a giant tortoise upsizing, which would be much approved aswell
  • Collared Peccary: one of the few animals rivaling the dromedary in utility, theyd cover na deserts, central america and tropical south america covering the small ungulate niche, something much needed for those areas
  • Burrowing Owl: My prefered bird species for this pack, covering allmost all of non tropical south america and the deserts and grasslands of north america and could easily be a habitat animal. Theyd fit great with prarie dogs and the armadillo and finally give na a bird
  • Patagonian Mara: the only cold desert animal for this pack and among the only missing sa animals more important than more monkeys. They ate extremly common in zoos, feature a unique rig and would be a large step for non tropical SA
  • Shortbeaked echidna: I love my all terrain vehicle and as the outback is on australian soil we got echidnas living there. Theyd be super versatile as they live literally everywhere in australia and would add something very fun and uniqe. I also picked it over the YFR wallaby, cause we allready got a wallaby last animal pack and i dont see them repeating sadly.
  • Budgies (WE): i think everyone likes that. Another domestic and another australian animals with tons of colormorphs, also birds. Would be the first and props only time when an exhibit animal would be my favorite of a pack.

Is it the most realistic?
Hell no i didnt include the marketing kitty, but it would for sure be perfect for me

My list (with Personal wishful thinking) of a Safari Animal Pack:
African Crested Porcupine (Headliner)
Dromedary
Black Rhino
Kirk Dik Dik
Serval
Hamadryas Baboon
Secretary Bird
Horned Viper (Exhibit)

As Black Rhino, Crested Porcupine and Horned Viper are very likely confirmed together with the Dromedary it is not that realistic 😃
Sorry for the Double post

Have i missed a teaser or are those just assumptions? Cause 2 out of 4 really sound disapointing, especally the horned viper.
You cant tell me anybody wouldnt prefer budgies here

Aww man, frontier being frontier i guess.
Bye bye baboon, bye bye tortoise, bye bye budgie, hello old exhibit, hello one of the most boring clones alive and hello dissapointment
4 animals are still missing as it is very likely to be an animal Pack. I am pretty sure the Baboon will be in, the tortoise could be at least an option.
Do you mean the Black Rhino as the Most boring clone? In my opinion it is not really a clone but everyone can have his own opinion 🙂. With the Dromedary and the Porcupine my number 2 and 3 Most wanted animals are coming to the game. Everything else cannot make this pack bad to me 😃. It Just can be better If we should also get a Dik Dik.

Im glad you like it, i just Personally feel very underwhelmed by the 4 animals.
Porcupine and dromedary are dope, but there are so many more interesting and especally more needed option for the clone then an ungulate from africa, with the rhino while visually somewhat distinct being like the blue wilderbeast to me, kinda okay but it could have been something new with the exact same amount of effort like an african monkey or the spurred tortoise.
Viper kills the budgie so like yeah allready lost there and now i really hope that the other 4 animals arnt also from africa, while also wishing for the baboon.
Africa doesnt need the rhino, meanwhile australia needs anything and for south america they would be quite important aswell and especally after africa was favored over them in the tropical pack it really is wasted to also dedicate the desert pack to it

I will just make a short repeat of the answer of the Summer DLC discussion. We never get or got 7 unique animals. Frontier chooses 2-3 very unique ones which are made Excellent in the meantime together with some "Clones". It is the way since more or less 2022 (Australia and Aquatic were the Most unique roosters in my opinion). Better this than average Work. And so called Clones are Not Bad in my opinion as they allow variety in Zoos. Just my opinion 🙂

Ik but there are much better clones like i mentioned, for example a wallaby, a tortoise or even a small cat. Another african ungulate is the last thing we need

Say hello to unavoidable sand cat / honey badger / dog / whatever carnivoran.
This pack so far looks like one huge dissapoitment.
I know you do not like the inclusion of Carnivoras but I see no Problem if there is one or two out of eight animals a carnivora species. It is just the case that they are still rather popular and Frontier cannot do to much wrong by including them. And especially the Honey Badger is an animal species not really comparable to animals we already have in-game even compared to the European Badger. And until now it seems to me that there will be potentially just one Carnivora. But that is okay, everyone can see it different. For me it is Not a disappointment. Frontier will hardly have an ideal line-up for one single member here. But I always take the wanted picks of myself more important than the not so much wanted. 2 out of 4 until now is great for me and there are 4 further animals incoming.
