Summer DLC Speculation 2023

On both arguments, there is a considerable portion of the playerbase that doesnt even know an offical forum exists and will voice any needs on the steam discussions, reddit, twitter etc. The meta wishlist is a key indication of what the 'fans' want but at the same time it is not an indictation of the playerbase as a whole. Everyone should take the metawishlist and how it influences frontiers decisions with a grain of salt.

I'm sure the vast majority of players don't know the forum exists.
Can confirm, Reddit still thinks the flexicolour staff uniform are hinting towards birds. The forum is by and large the only place online to have a useful discussion about the game with people who actually know the game.

Anyway, what a bummer the new pack is. Any hope of a Hamadryas baboon is pretty much dashed now; if they're saving a monkey for a highlands/mountain theme it will probably be the gelada, which isn't even a baboon. Porcupine is great and I'm stoked with the addax but ugh. Come on Frontier, stop missing opportunities. The dama gazelle is a lovely animal, but who was asking for it with the same degree of hype as some other choices?

I prefer Reddit because over there it seems like people actually enjoy and play the game as opposed to incessant complaining.

I'm sure the vast majority of players don't know the forum exists. I played the game regularly for a year before I knew it existed. Not sure why we're assuming the only reason to not vote on an unofficial wish list is apathy and implying that they aren't real fans.

But Frontier is a business and their goal is to sell as many packs as possible, so they cannot cater all of their decisions to a very small, very loud majority of the player base that's active here.
Completely agree.

This is a business.

And frontier cant be listening to the 500 or so people who signed up to their website and found the ANIMAL REQUEST WISHLIST and added animals they are requesting.

In terms of making money, a real business would not listen to that SMALL VOCAL player base. Instead better off going "off the board".

I wonder what the 5,000 silent players want 🤔 They've never shared their opinions so let's just guess ❤

Cater to THEM 💵 ❤ The silent "die hards"

Everyone is requesting longer battery life for the new iphone BUT what about the 25 million other customers...the silent ones. But but what do they want??? How can we appeal to the 25 million people with no opinions? 🤔

From a European point of view I hope for the Addra/Mhor gazelle, this is the only extant dama gazelle subspecies in Europe.
In North America though, I think, the dama gazelle (nominate subspecies) is the common one.
That’s correct, here in North America we mostly have ones with mainly white bodies and brown heads like in the first picture. Naturally that’s the one I’m going to be hoping for if we only get one type of pattern (and it seems to be the likelier outcome given the name used) but if there’s really evidence that suggests the subspecies are all just the same thing then I’d really hope we get some variations to let both sides of the pond use their preferred “subspecies”.

I'm not sure if anyone actually has a big issue with the porcupine, which is great because it's definitely the rig that took the most work. Frontier also probably realizes the porcupine is the big draw to this pack for most people, and it wouldn't have really mattered to many what the other animals were. That's me for sure. This pack is weak and uninteresting to me but I'm still buying it was the porcupine was my second most wanted animal at this point in time. I'll use the Sand Cat and Somali Wild Ass but I can't say I'm particularly excited about them.

I find Reddit super annoying. They're like two years behind on stuff we've figured out here.
so true 😂 I left the subreddit back in march because people seriously couldnt understand the current state of the game. I miss helping the people out there but it was so exhausting to explain literally everything

I imagine we'll be getting the whole species, with the different colour morphs, as the most recent research I have seen suggests that there are actually no subspecies at all and the colour simply changes depending on their geographical range.
If the research you’re referring to is Senn et al., 2014 then I would take it with a pinch of salt. There weren’t nearly enough genetic markers used to make the conclusions/recommendations they made and it caused a lot of alarm in the taxonomy and conservation fields. A really interesting paper came out more recently by Schrieber, and what was suggested is that there are two subspecies based on horn morphology (G. d. mhorr and G. d. ruficollis). I’m currently in the midst of conducting a taxonomic reassessment of gazelles based on both genetic and morphological data and my early results for the dama gazelles concur with Schrieber (including genetics).

If i understood what im reading correctly dama gazelle is like mainland tiger. Both ,,subspecies,, are kinda different, but still can count as one species. Similar genes, but different phenotypes or something like that.

Once I was really curious of all your opinions and insights but for some time I try to avoid them.

It’s getting really hard to read this thread 🙈 so much negativity and tunnel vision 🤯

Too much carnivores!

Too much ungulates!

Where are the birds!

Why Frontier hates monkeys!?

Ignoring the fact that Frontier just created one of the hardest to make animals - the porcupine!

Another clone!

They didn’t put enough work in it!

People it’s a pack for 9,99$ and we get the highest quality content that people work on very hard for months.

This is all ridiculous and you are simply being rude and ungrateful.

Stop for a moment and try to really think that we should be happy that this game still exists and new content is created on schedule.

I just think the fact that people have such a passionate reaction is why the game continues to do well. If a game is being talked about and engaged with this much, it can only be a good thing.

I, for one, am not the most enthused with this pack but I can see there’s lots to appreciate and celebrate about it. I’d rather see content that meets some of my wants than not have any new content at all. I echo a thanks to all the devs and creators who continue to work hard and bring creativity to this wonderful game.

Long live Planet Zoo.

I get it, but on the other hand its a perfectly reasonable thing to criticize a companys product that you are expected to pay for.

I still think it's a bit too strong a reaction for a pack where 6 out of 7 habitat animals were highly requested. It feels that the pack is judged much more for not following arbitrary expectations rather than for what it is.
I wouldnt call getting not african animals in a biome pack arbitary, neither to not get 5 ungulates in one.
No matter how you slices, if we look at last years biome packs and then this years the animal diversity took a huge hit and while i understand that thats not a problem for fans of those that wanted more african ungulates and north african animals its more then fair to call out the questionable decision to not feature any animal from the most arid continent in the arid animal pack.

Sure everything but the gazelle was decently to highly requested, but the combination of them still results in the weirdest roster of any pack imo.
And i feel like the majority of negative critism is for whats missing rather than what in there, similar to the tropical pack actually
