Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

...

They feel very likely.

That is my biggest fear of a mountain pack. It could so easily end up being put together like the arid pack.
Of course, there should be some ungulates under this theme, but don't let it be yet another animal pack dominated by hoofstock and carnivorans. I got trust issues with Frontier.
Before the arid animal pack I doubted Frontier would add more than one niche of hoofstock to a pack, but now we're getting two antelopes. So I think it's very likely we could end up with both the Markhor and Takin, as well as the Pallas's Cat. Other than those guys, I think we may get some hopefully unique species. I would expect the spectacled bear too, but don't really view them as "another carnivorian"

So was the hamadryas for an arid/desert theme...
Disagree, but the Hamadryas being absent from the Arid pack is exactly why I think the gelada is guaranteed for a mountain pack.

I believe one or the other was always on the cards, even though they aren't even in the same group of monkeys. The absence of the Hamadryas tells me they will end up going with the gelada. For a mountain theme, the gelada fits better than the Hamadryas, because such a theme will inevitably focus on "traditional" mountainscapes, rather than the drier, scrubby mountains the baboon lives on. The gelada lives in lush mountain meadows, an environment that tends to spring to mind when people think "mountains".

While I would never say it's completely guaranteed, of course, the chances are very high. Which is disappointing, because the Hamadryas baboon is a much better pick.

Did they ever miss such an obvious inclusion before?

Yes, but the animals were added later. Stuff like the Cassowary getting in the Australia pack instead of the Emu, capybara not making the South America, and I'm sure some others I'm forgetting. I think its safe to assume we'll get some sort of baboon before the end of the year.
Or the Arctic Fox not being included in the Arctic Pack.

These to me feel like there were just not enough slots in the pack, as the pther choices were also obvious.

But here we got both the off-theme rhino, and the oddballs dama and ass, plus the extra antelope the addax. Anyone of them doesn't feel near as essential as the baboon.

While this is true, it's worth noting that Frontier pre-plans DLCs for around a year. So when they added the Cassowary instead of the Emu or skiped the Arctic Fox in the Arctic pack, they did not plan to add them later, yet. That was probably only after the META wishlist and / or some uproar. A situation we won't have forever and probably don't even have now anymore, assuming this is the last year of paid DLC.

I wouldn't bet on the baboon at this point.

I think there should be 3 species which should make it into a mountain themed Pack:
An Asian goat (Markhor or Takin)
Spectacled Bear
Gelada or Hamadryas Baboon

I could imagine that the Baboon was Not included into the arid Pack because it could be used as a Headliner animal within such a pack (we already had 2 Bears as Headliner and I do Not think Frontier will choose a goat species)
