Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Where is the Javalin wreck uplift shown ages ago as a test for turbulent for example?

The whole game is a test ;)

It's like a movie set, it was, yeah, you can just look one side but not the other side...

I had not judged its quality, only said that I think the beta is close.
Yes, you may well be right. Although I'd be surprised if they released a beta given that they reportedly don't want to release video clips 'to avoid spoiling the story'.

It is, as you say, impossible to say what state it will be delivered in. However it is possible to infer from the state of SC (which may be of concern) whilst noting that, by constraining missions/scope, they may be able to work around (some?) current issues.

Profound issues, such as (clipping to) insta-death, are more worrisome if they are engine-based problems.

Putting it head-to-head with Starfield would be a bold move. If I were them I'd wait until early December, assuming the game is in a fit state to ship by then. Shipping a buggy beta (because they feel forced) could be a bad move, risking RedFallout, and also because they will be chasing their tails trying to fix SQ whilst also placating SC backers.

The biggest problem I think they face is that, if it's not absolutely fabulous, a lot of comment will centre on the time taken and money consumed. Ditto if what they deliver is too limited/small.

I hope that SQ is a good game, but only time will tell. Good job it's still early days, yeah...

I think also that the beta will not be public and that they will only present a demo press limited like CDPR had done for CP2077.

Who are the "all" ? For the guys here thinking that SQ42 will never be out and that the beta stage is still 5 year away perhaps, but elsewhere that's not the case.

Absolutely no ! The vast majority of players don't buy alpha and, for a new IP, the vast majority of players don't buy it if they have not seen a video of full gameplay about it.
Like every other game, CIG will do a full presentation during a special event, will show a lot of gameplay and if everything is apealing, will sell a lot of pre-release and, if the game is good, a hell lot of copy at release. Do you really think every gamer on the market is aware that a SQ42 game is in development and everyone of them had already bought it while there is absolutely 0 promo made about it by CIG since several years ?
As usual, you're sadly misled.

How could SQ42 be in beta if it still has provisional flight model.

Given what was in the script leak years ago, and some screenies that popped up some time after (was it our own Doog who linked? I forget) I am willing to bet SQ404 doesn’t even need a flight model.

I reckon it’s going to be a linear FMV storyboard interspersed with cutscenes, on-rails “missions”, QTE plodfests, epically handwaved fleet scripted battles of no consequence, a foreshadowed and utterly predictable betrayal, yet more FMV, specific “gameplay” segments stol, urm, as homage to inspirational works, a redemption arc of pointlessness, and that the Mess Hall Scene is going to be the most-paused moment in video game history.

I hate QTE

Ditto. I expect it to reinvent the interactive movie, because, that's never been don.... erm... gonna make it stand-out...

I mean, come one man. You are surely taking the mickey now

So,

Release imminent --> soon --> perhaps at CitCon --> not release but a beta rather --> no, just an internal beta (so no one can see it) --> actually just a demo...

CIG can do demos and promo vids of all kinds any time, that is their core business. CIG excels at "demos" followed by multiyear delays of real products afterwards.
