Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Release imminent --> soon --> perhaps at CitCon --> not release but a beta rather --> no, just an internal beta (so no one can see it) --> actually just a demo...
CIG can do demos and promo vids of all kinds any time, that is their core business. CIG excels at "demos" followed by multiyear delays of real products afterwards.
Demo playable by the press.

Sidenote about "Imminent" > Ho boy. It was just a quick reply of me saying "yes and yes" to a post where the word "imminent" was used by the guy. I should have understood that someone here was going to hang on to that word like a moth and that I can't just make quick replies here. So forget my response and you can mark the one below for future usage :

I think that CIG will make an annoucement about SQ42 at the citizencon.
I think that SQ42 will have a internal beta, not a public one.
I think that the start of the beta is close (end of the year, start of next year) > cool for you I give some date.
I think that CIG will present a playable demo to the press at some point before release and let them test the game by themselve.

To be honest, the whole point of the backtracking exercise was not to get at some kind of "gotcha" moment later on if your predictions fail (although that can also be fun in its own right!).

If you remember the conversation started around the discussion on CIG removing SQ42 from sale altogether. Your main argument to justify that it only meant a change in price was that SC would be released "imminently" and that it would be worth the (presumably increased) price tag.

But if all you really mean now is a "closed" beta (that no one can see) in perhaps around 6 to 7 months or a demo (which are dime a dozen for CIG) and now you do not even mention an actual release time frame at all, then your argument does not really hold much water. The reason for removing it from sale altogether must be pointing to something more significant than just a price change.

...I think that CIG will make an annoucement about SQ42 at the citizencon...
They don't have any choice about this. They absolutely have to do this. No question.

The problem is that they have form on announcements. Remember the utter farce a few years back, specifically regarding an impending Christmas release of SQ.

I also feel they also really need to show some actual live gameplay that can't be construde as being scripted. Much like NMS gave the controller to their host/journallist.

I hope that you're right about the rest. Although I wouldn't bet a dime on it. Sadly.

Given the multitude of unknowable unknowns on this project, it's record to date, and Robert's own track record on delivery, I feel that this unknown kinda gets just lost in the mists, along with the rest. Despite it being quite a big one. Besides, it's removal refactoring is probably needed for server-mashing.

And don't forget that we have always been at war with Eastasia.

Heh, indeed.

I personally think the removal of SQ42 from sale suggests more significant issues, such as legal or regulatory ones of some kind. I also think there is a chance CIG could settle those eventually in a relatively short time frame aswell. All is possible.

If the issues are of that nature, I would not be surprised if CIG decides to settle them in the way they are pros at: Releasing a crappy product of some kind (such as mediocre prologue episode), in "alpha" or some such to try and avoid reviews, along side AAA Hollywood star studded promotional material promising that future updates and missions are coming right up, so to try and extract premium prices for crap and dreams. Hey, after all they have been doing exactly that for over a decade, I am pretty sure they could also pull it off with SQ42.

The salt on Spectrum is really in full flow.

Although i did get a chuckle from the idea that this a new thing, and not something that has been evident for years.

I signed up to "Answer the Call 2016", not "We're still working on the basic flight model after 10+ years, but we'll get there soon!"

LOL, this guy...

Posts like these prove that some people have no idea about one or both of these points:

A: What Star Citizen is Attempting to pull off (No Game compares in its Ambition... None.)

B: What Star Citizen has actually pulled off already (No game competes with Star Citizen at the scale and visual fidelity they've already achieved).

First, ambition is easy. Look at Star Atlas for example, or Earth 2.

Second, what its pulled off to date, is a pale shadow of what was promised, and a buggy alpha limited in functionality is nothing to boast about, no matter how many polygons you have on the screen.

Most transparent development ever!

The people who post on Spectrum continue to blow my mind.

The people on Spectrum are all people who gave CIG money. Makes you think doesn't it?

Always cool ;)

SQ42 beta end of 2021.

I should have understood that... I can't just make quick replies here

You totally can, and do. It's just that glancing opinions don't actually stack into a convincing argument. If you want to have an actual conversation, you need to do a bit more ¯\(ツ)/¯

(And if you don't want a conversation, you're just trolling ;))

Well I've had my CitizenCon invite email. It doesn't seem to promise anything other than two days to slap each other on the back.

Ooh now! THAT is a point.... so let's do some conspiracy-crafting!!!

What if their contract with said AAA stars had some agreement(s) that (given the delay perhaps) they are now in breach of? Payment deadlines? Or 'time to use' clauses? Or not making that pixel green!

[...rubs hands together with glee, and settles back...]
