Demo playable by the press.

Sidenote about "Imminent" > Ho boy. It was just a quick reply of me saying "yes and yes" to a post where the word "imminent" was used by the guy. I should have understood that someone here was going to hang on to that word like a moth and that I can't just make quick replies here. So forget my response and you can mark the one below for future usage :

I think that CIG will make an annoucement about SQ42 at the citizencon.
I think that SQ42 will have a internal beta, not a public one.
I think that the start of the beta is close (end of the year, start of next year) > cool for you I give some date.
I think that CIG will present a playable demo to the press at some point before release and let them test the game by themselve.

Come on Ant, you used to be good at shilling...what happened..take a BMM to the knee?

I personally think the removal of SQ42 from sale suggests more significant issues, such as legal or regulatory ones of some kind. I also think there is a chance CIG could settle those eventually in a relatively short time frame aswell. All is possible.
That is my read. There have been some meaty changes to EU law regarding sales of digital goods. Given they have pre-sold SQ42 for 10 years with no product release, I suspect all SQ42 sales in the EU are potentially open to refunds. Either they need to wrap it back into SC or follow the same policy as SC and release the opening episodes first chapter as a pre-alpha. Assuming Starfield releases in buggy fashion they could fly it in under the radar. They have also had a tax credit from HMRC for a decade with no release of product, at some point I would have expected a tax auditor to ask some questions..

Whatever it is, it's very, very unusual to remove from sale in this way and then leave it that way without redress.

Which incidentally leads to a very interesting corollary, assuming the issues are indeed legal/regulatory in nature (we dont really know): If SQ42 has been removed from sale because there is no product released at all after 11 years pre selling it, the same logic would dictate that the fact SC is still being sold means it has actually been released.

Heh, indeed.

If the issues are of that nature, I would not be surprised if CIG decides to settle them in the way they are pros at: Releasing a crappy product of some kind (such as mediocre prologue episode), in "alpha" or some such to try and avoid reviews, along side AAA Hollywood star studded promotional material promising that future updates and missions are coming right up, so to try and extract premium prices for crap and dreams. Hey, after all they have been doing exactly that for over a decade, I am pretty sure they could also pull it off with SQ42.

Ooh now! THAT is a point.... so let's do some conspiracy-crafting!!!

What if their contract with said AAA stars had some agreement(s) that (given the delay perhaps) they are now in breach of? Payment deadlines? Or 'time to use' clauses? Or not making that pixel green!

[...rubs hands together with glee, and settles back...]
Didn't Mark Hamil announced he was retiring from the industry recently? With him out, they can't do any reshoot of scenes and probably have to cut his role out completely. I don't think its this though, but I don't think its EU regulations either. CIG had been skirting legality for so long I think they're pros at it by now.

Live going well:

A short survey...

At a guess, after 10+ years, how many current players does SC have at the moment. No not accounts, actual players?

At a guess, how many copies of Starfield will have been pre-ordered by launch day?

It will be fun to look back at the answers.
SC = averaging 5.5k concurrent (launcher only)
SF = averaging 550k concurrent first week (Steam only; also on other PC stores, and Xbox)

Surely someone must be answering at HMRC with 66,000 employees?
Not if you're asking for a tax rebate they're not

An interesting off topic story concerning HMRC...I have a mate who works for them, as does his wife. He being a corporate customs and excise agent whilst his wife is on the 'knock' squads dealing with high level arrests of counterfeiters, illegal importers and the like.

I had a call from him asking if I still knew of anyone selling cheap 'duty free' tobacco as his wife had just arrested his 'Baccy' man during a sting operation 🤭

? For now there is no open or closed beta... we are not in minority report...

Are you suggesting that we can’t make any useful predictions of the future!
