Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I smell a game press article in the air...
A Pes Press is overdue. Work the thing to increase server performance. It's all in player hands.

imo it's an automated wikipedia blurb and authored by the community, your pic is roughly the form it was in in 2013 (one of the revisions probably has the exact match) and you can see the process of grind as the paragraph formed collaboratively there.

Yep not sure of how the game descriptions are generated. Although it now seems to be in line with their absurd YT blurb, which suggests CIG can edit it:

Strange lack of 'alpha' here...

I kinda feel that it was still their public face on Twitch for years though, regardless, which is amusing in its own right. (Especially the VR bit ;)).

Perun's latest video about warfare goes into procurement, and on one slide he talks about scope creep, and interestingly, stresses how this can happen in any industry, especially, for example, software development.

I wonder if he had any particular project in mind.

Star Citizen came to mind when I watched it too, but there's plenty of military programs with that issue. From the top of my head, LCS, F-111, Seawolf class subs, DD1000, OICW and several other attempts to replace the M16, M2 Bradley.

Ahhh... At long last, YouTube finally asked me for the relevance of SC ads! Since weeks every video I watched was introduced/interrupted by both stinky mobile game ads "the game looks so fun in the and, but once you play it's disappointing" and SC ads. To the point I was mixing the audio of the first with the video of the latter:)

The thing is, that only works if we asume SC has not yet released. But it has. It has been in Early Access for many years now. The only way to really compare the current amount spent in SC (assuming we believe the tracker of course) versus RDR2, GTAV etc is if we also add any extra money spend by those devs post release to maintain or improve their games.

It is bad news for SC either way.
  • Either you think (erroneously) that the game is not released yet and then the amount spent on it is just atrociously bad and a waste.
  • Or you realize the game released already in Early Access many years ago (at least as early as 2016 based on CIG statements) and the amount spent before that was not that bad at the time when compared to the other AAA games, but then SC itself after release is utter crap instead. All we are missing is the usual game press reviews.
