Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The size of planets and distances between them are scaled down, not the furniture on them and not the players. I don't know why its scaled down.

It might be limitations in the engine, or computing maths. 64Bit Float Precision means you can travel in 3D space at a maximum distance of about 9 Trillion KM in any direction.
The most distant planet from the Sun is Neptune at 4.5 Billion KM. So more than enough room to fit a full size solar system in. Light travelling to Neptune would take 15 seconds to reach it (300,000 KM/s)

The greatest distant objects in the Stanton System are about 70 million KM apart, using the fastest Quantum Drive it would take about 5 minutes to travel that distance, so the speed is a very small fraction of the speed of light, that speed might be all the engine or the maths can handle, so making it a 1:1 scale travel time might take too long.

Or, more likely the intention is to put the whole game, all 100 Star Systems in to that one 64Bit instance, again there is more than enough room for it at this scale, so there is no loading, even between solar systems.
Light travelling to Neptune takes way more than 15 seconds. One light second is little less than Earth-Moon distance. And Earth-Sun is around 8 light minutes.

The size of planets and distances between them are scaled down, not the furniture on them and not the players. I don't know why its scaled down.

But CI-G are now claiming on their website, that everything is life-size.

From the disgruntled SC backer that refunded, to avid ED enthusiast yelling for space legs for over 4 years, to the depressed commander after space legs delivered.... not much. I`m back and now... in RSI camp.
No, for those who remember me, Sandi did not kidnapped my cat, nor I was brainwashed in secret RSI basement - I was wrong about Star Citizen.
I don't know when they did it and how but the SC that Iv been playing non stop past few week is... the most immersive, engaging and down right photorealistic space game I have ever played. Hard to explain, but there is no going back now. I guess will be throwing pics here and there to brighten the day for all, if you Gents don't mind. Enjoy (100% maxed out settings, no post work done):

lol

that death would have been pretty uninteresting. when we were doing jumpdown we were loading into my cutlass blue. i was sitting in the pilot seat for quick get away and going back and forth between watching radar and 3rd person view for unwelcome visitors. missed someone and they got on the ship and capped me while i was sitting in pilot seat. was able to alert people i was playing with and they got him so we didnt loose the load.

first death was pretty funny but didnt have a super good view of it. went to go ghost hollow in an A2 with 3 people on it. so turrets manned. apparently the npc cutlass' had been continuely spawn, even no one was going there. when we showed up there were about 15 npc cutlass'. we figured we would give it a shot. the server was running at about 10 - 15fps, so npc were responding some what well. needless to say, we were not successful. lol. swarmed by the damn things. and the turret arcs are not that great on the A2 to defend itself from air targets. i also think they must have nerfed turrrets some? or it was the A2 in particular. but the turrets felt pretty bad, but it has been a long time since ive used them.
