AX Restoration tactics

I really hope as time goes on there will be on-foot missions of similar challenge and payout level. The supply of these mission will dwindle with time as humanity wins back space, no doubt.

And yeah Jawul has some of these now, but unfortunately nearby Ngolite that is receiving more focus does not...and we have a couple days before the weekly tick.

Lessons learned during today’s Scorpion woes (for those who still stubbornly refuse to use the Scarab like I am)…

Driving in a circle or weaving right/left quickly, at sufficient speed, actually seems to make Scout guns basically incapable of hitting you, providing you’re on ground that allows such movement without spinning all over the place. They’ll just hit the ground wherever you were.

Ship aggro is rather inconsistent, as sometimes they’ll chase it well out into space before it low wakes out, if you recall it to get the Scout off of you, then dismiss it before landing. Other times, they’re not going to move out of range to lose aggro on the SRV(think around 2-3km is where they lose it).

The weirdest case? Ship called in and sent off again to distract Scout, which didn’t work… then the Scout decided to keep shooting the Scorpion instead of the ship when I recalled it a second time. And then left to wake out instead of shooting the ship when I boarded, despite being within a few hundred meters of it.

(I tried to test a theory that the low Scout drop was tied to terrain elevation… can safely say it turned out to be wrong. Happened on flat ground with no hills or mountains in sight just as well as settlement locations with messy terrain.)

So you've successfully escaped from a scout while driving?
I could sneak out the other side of the settlement (terrain permitting) while it was stationary but not once they started shooting.

Not really, they move too fast for you to properly escape in an SRV, but I haven’t had them blow the Scorpion up before I could recall the ship out of a range where the Revenants get cranky at it. Then it’s just a matter of having the scout chase it(which seems inconsistent lately), or just having it land and going inside.

I usually prefer the former option as it seems to make it less likely an angry Basilisk or Medusa tries to get the drop on me(they haven’t succeeded thus far) before I’m in the ship.

I think I mentioned earlier in this thread, but I evaded two scouts firing at my Scorpion SRV. There is no escaping them, other than recalling your ship and boarding.

In my case (and why I've given up on Scorpions for now), both scouts were hovering low (same altitude they drop revenants) half-way between the base and my Scorpion. They were totally passive UNTIL I boarded the Scorpion. Then they immediately attacked. I dodged their fire and recalled my ship. As the ship came down, one scout switched to attacking my ship while the other kept chasing me. As the ship in question was my Federal Dropship (with 5 enhanced AX multicannons), I made sure those scouts learned the depth of their mistake in harassing me.

Because of this odd behavior regarding Scorpions (where the Thargoid ships linger and then attack), I've switched to Scarabs. I hate it - especially on the mountainous icy worlds, where the Scarab slips, slides, and has trouble climbing inclines, while the Scorpion would just truck on with no issues. The Scorpion is still viable (I think) if you never kill any revenants and bring down extra scouts. I love sniping revenants with my L6, so I'm stuck with Scarab.

Please Devs, fix it so the Scorpion is as invisible/undetectable as the Scarab! We should only have to worry about revenants in SRVs - or the bigger ships if we're really dumb and attack them with our SRVs.

I'm hoping this is a relevant question given that it is related to AX restoration tactics.... Does anyone know the cap on tactical core chips? I ask because in the past I've reached the cap on caustic shards, hardened surface fragments and phasing membrane residue which was (at the time) 100. But I must have done something while gathering those materials because I would log in later and find the caps on them all had been raised to the corrects cap levels for their respective grades. Now I've encountered the same thing with tactical core chips...

Does anyone know if 100 really is the cap, or should it be 250 (as shown in inara)? If it is 250, what do you need to do to get the right cap level showing in your inventory?

EDIT - I have seen people report a similar issue to this regarding other materials (tellurium was one I remember). Like me, none of them can remember what they did to get the correct cap amount to appear in their inventory.

Sorry for join this thread so late (and this has probably been answered elsewhere), but I'm having real trouble trying to find these AXI restoration missions. What is the criteria to find these blasted missions?

Ta

Anywhere you take a mission from within 20 light years of one of the following systems;
HIPs 20056, 20679, 21112, 21165, 21261, 8525, Chinas, Holvandalla, Kaurukat, Lhou Mans, Liu Huang, Mapon, Obamumbo, Warnones.

It no longer works to use the ship as a decoy to attract revenants in the bases, or is it just my imagination?

You have to look for a system occupied by Thargoids. That system has to have military settlements, and you have to have the game "Odyssey". So, you look for a system close to the Thargoid occupied one, with active Odyssey facilities (for example, there are no odyssey facilities on alert systems)., and you will find there settlement AX restoration missionsTake a look at this video:

All the Odyssey settlements are active in Alert systems, they don't offer war missions however.

As with everything, log out, log in 😂

Btw, that FDS is doing very well. I've had two run ins with Glaives and it didn't end well for the Glaives. Scouts are also getting the dakka dakka smack down. Been able to get away from all the interceptors that chased me. Sooner or later I'm going to get chased by a Basilisk (near a settlement) and... well, that's really the only thing I'm worried about.

Nice, punch a few Glavies in the face for me too!

I've adapted my science Clipper for this work. Planning to trade the EAXMC turrets for gimbaled to get better DPS but it already handles scouts quite easily. It runs just under 20% heat, no shield and a lot of armor. I've been able to deal with Glaives since it runs cold enough to use silent running quite extensively and has plenty of heat sinks. That seems to keep the missile attacks down. It's generally an event that I still have to back out from as I don't think she could kill 2 in a row. Has a universal limpet controller so I get mediocre versions of everything needed. It is a bear sometimes to find a landing location though.

As of last week, I was up to total of four Glaive kills. The new two kills were back to back - not same battle, but one interdiction after the other. I was at 50% hull and my shield generator was at 3%. After that, I modified the build to include an AFMS. This has really made a difference. Many, many more scouts have been killed... and maybe a fifth glaive... not sure, I'm losing track.

New FDS build. I've gotten used to it enough now that I can sometimes finish a fight with four scouts without the shields even dropping. I look forward to upgrade all the hard points with the pre-engineered Enhanced MCs (I've locked in the one large, two medium from the trade CG and should get at least 2 more mediums from the bounty hunting CG).

I have managed to collect materials from revenants solo, after a lot of testing. The timing has to be almost perfect. This has been a very intense experience... Thanks Max Timbs ! :D

  • Find a tiny settlement, for example: Shin’s Landing , Marinov’s Honour, Ferraro Munitions Hold, Harada’s Stockade, Lim fortification, Hara’s Service...
  • Use the terrain to approach the settlement without being seen.
  • Use the ship as decoy to group revenants on landing pad zone.
  • Descend with the scorpion and accomplish the mission.
  • You have to get the scorpion as close as possible to one flank of the landing pad without being detected.
  • Dismount on foot, and try to kill two revenants with the rocket launcher (there are five of them, you have three left)
  • Get back to the scorpion as quickly as possible, and dispatch the three remaining revenants.
  • Collect the materials, and leave the area as fast as you can, using the terrain as cover.
This is the first time I've done it "perfect", but I haven't collect a Tactical Core Chip yet. I am afraid that Max Timbs will see this, and change some things so that will not be possible to accomplish solo again, I hope he doesn't... ;) Good luck and have fun !

It should be much easier in team. I have about 30 Tactical Core Chips, also from solo, but not interested to collect more, because they have no use for now.

Maybe a little off topic, but does anybody know if and how you can still get AX Restoration missions for post thargoid recovery systems ?

I think you actually have to go to the on-foot terminals for those. Also, those can expire quickly as the settlement will be considered "online" after a certain number of people fix them.

On foot Terminals in the affected systems or around them ? I have not Seen a single such mission anywhere 😕
