First look: THE SCYTHE!!! (New Thargoid ship)

usually when i see panther clipper mentions i roll my eyes back so bad i can see my ass is getting fat
but i think something like large alliance ship with the nice star trek design and good cold orbit is kinda due... :p
Your post is crystal clear, as your brain and back of your skull must be :D :D :D ;)

I’ve a brilliant plan to avoid capture by the Thargoids and it seems increasing numbers of other players are using it too.

As to what the Thargoids are up to, well …

Please, please don't make "deus ex machina" situation where Thargoids will start winning the war again. Do not waste playerbase effort...
Better buckle up. The war has become stale and boring. Turns out "winning" is a killer for gameplay. I would bet there are a lot more players like me who are disappointed and annoyed by the "minmaxers" who sample the war away. I hope (and expect) they will throw a wrench or two in.

Maybe a kindly moderator could update the thread title to make it clearer, something like "Roots Discovers about: THE SCYTHE!!! (New Thargoid ship) that fdev announced on stream over a month ago"?

What you may have missed that obviously Frontier released partner exclusive material and that the embargo is over - almost all of them released something in one form or another.

Not feeling the polearm names. Too pedestrian. How about Halberd? Maybe Ranseur? Spetum? Naginata (really a different flavor of Glaive).

That's not fair
We have 38
They had 2 (if you dont count the variants) or 8 (4 scout variants and 4 interceptor variants) till U14

So they have a lot to catch up...

We’ll if you’re not counting variants then we really only have about 25 or so, not 38..

oh no, tens of thousands of afk farmed scout samples going to waste oh nooo
(nothing personal. im just salty about that method)

I, myself, have been doing only rescue stuff and saw many ppl on Inara doing the same. Also lots of interceptors killed by top players in most systems, acording to Inara. Never heard about method you are talking about.

it does not matter what you and I do, because the war is being won by strategically sampling tissue from thargoids. It has been found that it is far more efficient than anything else; it is the reason why we have no alerts by friday night or saturday morning, end why we don't have invasions anymore - no alerts, no invasions. No invasions, no more planetary or stationary CZs. Tissue sampling is winning the war, but ruining gameplay. Turns out winning is boring.

You can also bet that there are many players who greatly appreciate the quality and persistent work of a group of players such as Aleks Zuno, Ian Doncaster, Ned Flandalorian, Starsong, Grimscrub, Phill P, CMDR Vulkarius and others, who have excellently analyzed Thargoid behavior in this war, found the most effective ways to fight and directed and coordinated the actions of all the rest of us. Do you think that tissue sampling is the most effective weapon in this war, that it is the responsibility of these players that I have listed? They didn't program it and install it in the game.
I agree with you that it has become stupid and boring, but when you criticize it, address it to the right address, not to the players you call "minmaxers".

It is not meant as a detrement to the CMDRs involved. Their analysis of the war is brilliant, no question. But you have to concede that the tissue sampling is totally OP, and that the way the war is won is meta gaming, and that it is killing fun and entertaining gameplay. Somebody else put it very well recently; there are those who want to win, and those who want to play the war. The former have the upper hand, because they have a completely overpowered tool at their hands. Look at the active war threads, and it's all "samples delivered". I maintain: Winning by tissue sampling is lame.

Again: What they do is brilliant and a lot of work; but it is at the cost of gameplay. It is done by meta gaming. It is very well done, but it is still meta gaming.

if thargoid on-foot combat will be npcs painted green
and titan combat will be months worth of shooting titan capship heatsinks to make it retreat
im going to mald, ditch the war, leave the bubble and i wont return until i get so mad in the black that i will not mind...
Erm... what else should it be, anyway? That's pretty much set now. Better pack up already and spare yourself the frustration.
