First look: THE SCYTHE!!! (New Thargoid ship)

I think you can get them from the Dedicant with hatch breakers?
Tried all 4 Cargo Bays (even up close to about 52m - Hatchbreaker just doesn't want to launch or has invalid target.
Guess I will go to Alert to get some?
Will 1 be enough to attract it then kill it and retrieve the ejected pod? or do you need many pods?

Funnily enough, once you’ve found escape pods to attract them killing Scythes in a Control system is a decent enough way to get war progression progress. (As well as the Dedicant, you can find escape pods in Control system signal sources)
Aha, will try that - a bit of AX Combat - is it Control and Alert systems?

It works in both (and any other system near Thargoid space, they don't stop chasing you for a fair distance if you've got escape pods or passengers). However, given the fact that Alerts basically auto-clear at this point if you're trying to help the actual war progress it's better to do it in Controls.

You can get escape pods from The Dedicant's escape hatch (duh). What's not so obvious is you need to move close enough (about 200m) and use data link scanner on it. After finishing scanning, you can then target the escape hatch's subtarget which says "limpet docking point" or something like that. Then you launch your hatch breaker limpets.

Same process for cargo bays (scan, subtarget, hatchbreak) but they don't contain anything interesting, just various metals and a few rare goods. Not worth the trouble honestly.

Also, one should be enough to make them come after you. Taking "transport injured" missions from alert systems also works to get them on your tail, provided you pick up the pods.

Well that was ........... interesting....... OMG.
Got plenty pods from Dedicant on 2nd try using subtarget, hatch breakers, then.....

Bloody Hell..... A Hunter and 2 Glaives(?) jumped in and attacked me in Krait 2. BLAM.

Dead, so I went and got my HRP/MRP 6AXMC 'Conda and got about same amount pods.
On way back to FC continuously 'dicted by Hunter(s) and also once by an NPC (surprised you got this far with that haul! :ROFLMAO: ) on way back to FC in SC - AXMC's do nothing (well, negligible damage) to human pirates so had to SC out - lucky to get back to FC only to find ............... my entire hold of pods were stolen!

I think this is a great new game play and really exited to take part in the war again, after being pretty disinterested due to no Invasions, for several months.

A Hunter and 2 Glaives(?
Glaives are a subset of the 'Hunter' class of Thargoids. The other is the recently added Scythe, which isn't really much of a combat vessel. Quite low damage, but it is likely it stole your pods. Because that's what it does. (Suppose the pirate might also have taken whatever remained.)

After playing around a bit, my recommendation is to ditch shield on an anti-Scythe ship for a third MRP. Less heat, less mass and more speed, less drain on SYS capacitor (you need it to use ECM), no lightning attack means high mobility all the time, less module damage and negligibly more hull damage. Here's my semi-final setup; I also want to try out Gauss cannons instead of Azimuth AXMC-s.

That'll mean you'll get hatchbreakered, though.
EDIT: Wait, does the ECM work against the hatchbreaker as well?

ECM works like magic against the Thargoid hatchbreaker. As for human pirate hatchbreakers I'm not sure if the ECM works (never tried), but point defense turret certainly does, if for some reason I would fail the interdiction against them, or they drop in while I'm fighting the Scythe and somehow do not soil their flight suit and high tail it out immediately.

sadly I get a little bit the feeling that, however many samplers are doing their business, they have very little regard for how they take away gameplay from others. The usual replies are "but it is valid gameplay", "we are using the tools Frontier gave us", "but it is effective", and "but we're winning". That's all very valid, but, once again, those who get stuff taken away (invasions and the planetary and stationary CZs they bring with them) are expected to understand and deal with it, because they have no tool at their disposal to counter it. I have gotten very salty replies about how I am being detrimental to and belittling the hard work the strategists of the war do when I questioned the tissue sampling strategy; and while that is true, it is hard work and the people analyzing the war have done some brilliant work, the "wanting to win" faction is doing it at the expense of those who want to fight the far, and does not really care. Sadly Frontier decided to allow the war to be won by tissue sampling.

Yes, I am actually very salty about this by now. This is very lame, and while from a lore perspective it is right to want to "win the war" by any means (even if sampling the enemy away is outright silly and makes no sense), it just sucks. I am afraid if you ask the samplers to lay off a bit, all you will get is either be ignored, or one of the replies I cited above.

I kind of hoped Frontier would throw a wrench in at some point... but that does not seem to happen. And it's going on for so long now, if tissue sampling gets nerfed now, the outcry will probably be... too enormous for them to want to deal with it.

#NerfTissueSampling. There. I said it. You had your fun, now let us have ours.
Ah … so that’s why all the fun AX surface base defence CZs seem to have vanished?!

Experimentation guesstimates Scythes being active up to 44ly out of a system controlled by Thargoids.

When we players run a rescue mission, that's typically when we notice Scythes - but the NPCs will bump into this too during their "everyday lives".
Taxis will get interdicted, Imperial cargo vessels hauling Imperial Slaves will get interdicted, tourist vessels will get interdicted, vessels carrying political emissaries will get interdicted, etc etc.

The arrival of the Scythes will cause economic mayhem. And panic.

But frankly, FD have never been good at responding to these sorts of things in a timely manner.
Oh, they are good, very good.
But sadly in listening cryfolks, and sadly in listening the worst of them.
How many nerfs of thargoids we had?
Now alerts can be cleared by few players, meanwhle at start whole community had serious issues with defending single system.

It is ultimate fail caused by listening "I want to win" folks.
But it is elite, here the most "effective" way was at 1 moment ultra stupid since...guess that always.

This war was much more funny when thargoids were winning side, now we can farm samples, or farm samples,or farm samples, unless you have playtime shortly after maintenance, then you have few hours of other activities, GG frontier.
