highly successful company Amazon has led to a tie-up with Frontier.

I think they are just supplying a product that will probably be marketed as an Amazon brand. Haven't they done similar with a zoo thing for Microsoft?

It's logic.

Amazon AWS offers the Server for ED for the "always online" Gameplay and FDEV offers ED for Amazon. Things come together..

That'll explain the good solid server connects I'm getting now. AWESOME!

That is good news :)

looks a solid title but...... my issue with tablets (and phones) for core gaming experiences like these is the damn controls.

unless it is a touch screen game like cut the rope etc, or an adventure like say monkey island, imo the game fails due to the cruddy on screen joystick.

sure, maybe you can use a real controller, but then you kind of lose the portability of the tablet, and it is just a pita to use vita.

I hope it does ok..... and also if it is good hope that perhaps a pc, version comes out later. (does anyone use an ouya any more? maybe it would be a nice fit for that ?)

Yep Amazon, paragon of the British corporate tax system, I use to be a big fan. I bought a monitor to play this game off them in June that blew up just out of the 3months warranty, I've sent it back (£50 postage) after they ok'ed a refund and that was almost 8 weeks ago... They've washed their hands of any responsibility and now I have to deal with their importers...

Your contract is with Amazon, its their responsibility to sort it out - dont take that nonsense! Sales of Goods act and all that - 3 months is NOT what I would expect a reasonable amount of time for a monitor to last and they should replace or repair it for you and not fob you off to importers.

I bought a kindle with the daily mail offer. 118 quid for a year's newspaper and a free tablet I'll have some of that! I don't mind the gimped android and if it ever started to bother me I'd change it.

I'm not an Amazon fanboy but I was impressed when I sent an email whining about the adverts on my freebie tablet they got rid of them for free when they usually charge for this service.

I'm not a fan of their employment practices but I'm pretty excited about having stuff delivered by drone that's going to be an interesting concept. Pub spivs selling knocked off random goodies that fell off the back of a drone....

I was thinking the same. What manufacturer only provides a3 month warranty?

Why people celebrate the success of businesses they do not own stock in is rather odd to me. What did the business ever do for you except exchange goods and services for money?

I mean I own Facebook stock and I suppose sales of ED would lead to more Oculus Rift sales which is better for my portfolio. Maybe if people valued their money more, they would view the goods and services as less as a bargain. To each his own I guess.

Wait, so when the game is being released for handheld devices it will only come out on the crappy kindle fire..?

Nope - Elite : Dangerous isn't coming to tablets. The article sates: "Aim-listed Frontier said this morning that the game, Tales from Deep Space, will be released exclusively on the Fire, though its launch date is to be confirmed." In other words, Amazon contracted Frontier Developments to create a game specifically for their Kindle.

I wish you worked for them Matt! I actually underestimated the time this has taken it's actually 11 weeks not 8. Amazon have some sellers that they put in an area called "Marketplace", this is a device so they can blame the seller rather than themselves, the only reason a buyer might notice this fact is if you look at the greyed out type next to the product, for some reason Amazon feel they can avoid responsibility. The past few years I have more and more issues with them but I kept forgiving them but now that good faith is all used up.

It's pretty shabby since I've been a massive advocate of theirs and loyally supported them during the years when they were struggling, they were the perfect example of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) I use to use them as an example in my own work telling my clients to be like them, now I tell them NOT to be like them, recently I've got most of my family and friends to wean themselves off this misguided monolith and use alternative companies like Argos, Debenhams etc.

I don't understand this.

We would be happy about this because FD develops a game of which we all hope will be around for a long time.

More money for FD = More money for the development of Elite.

Not a difficult concept.
