A little summary I found interesting

-always something to do (schedule of activities to do almost by hours)
-competitive ranking (not high ranking on a server, switch server)
-upgrades (pay to win is good)
-clear goals in game (separate one for whales and free players)
-not designed for people who like open world

-low barrier to entry
-linked to facebook/social network (launch on multiple platforms)
-some have built in bots (afk mode)
-World of Tanks does well in China

-quantity vs quality (100s of games a year, copying each other)
-100-200 servers per week
-make quick money before obsurity (ROI in weeks)
-sever rapid decline after first week
-$10mil+ per month, short lifespan
-a lot of AAA western games tried to get into China and failed.

Where Star Citizen is about the new ships, Chinese games are all very similar and are about the new servers. It's a platform for competition and the whales pay to be the top player on the server. Enhance eqipment to progress in the game rather than play the game to improve equipments. I don't know if this will work with Star Citizen. Maybe the sever wipes will work like a new server, I don't know. How do you rank players in Star Citizen.

The fact Chinese games are designed for browser and low hardware requirment alone is going to limit Star Citizen in the Chinese market.

Too many design phylosophies are counter to western market and game design. It'll be interesting to see how well CIG does in China.

Probably CIG changed, needing new avenue for money? Without understanding the market it seems (see above)
I'm pretty sure it's not Chris Robert's or Sandi's idea. Can't see them thinking that far ahead.
Yeah, but all that was already known and impacting SC sales there already. SC was not hidden for China (as far as I am aware). The game is still as crap in the US as in China.

So what’s changed now?

New Chinese investor? The Calders would be delighted.

A new and dedicated marketing campaign and related expenditure over there perhaps? The fans who bought on the promise of all money for development and no money in marketing would be delighted.

New studio or 3rd party studio contract in addition to LA, Austin, Manchester, Frankfurt, Montreal and the 9 or 10 shell companies including the Cayman Islands perhaps? Just what CIG needed. Everyone roll eyes please.

Do they care about space stuff? I've never seen Chinese folks in the various space games I've played.
There's a few Chinese players on the ED forums and considering most of them probably don't hit English forums they're probably an iceberg tip. A few years back there was a fairly vocal member wanting an official Mandarin translation for the game (and the most recent is June of this year). Who knows what might be if ED took that action?

So what’s changed now?
Cashflow issues? 😏

I think it's desperation and possibly cheap labor.
With all the reverse engineering they do to copy other games it might be a good bet for CIG to get Chinese coders to work on their game. More codes for less pay, plus they might even get some netcode/server meshing done when Magic Germans couldn't.

It would onl ydrag out the inevitable. Income drying up will quickly put an end to the clownshow. No matter how cheap they can source labour.

When magic Germans and sorciers Québécois are not enough, it's time to call for Chinese shamans. Let's hope they'll answer the call...

If it ain't enough, they'll have to find the proverbial Jesus to hopefully get the tech done.
You do not want 10 000 chinese making the 100 systems in 1 year with all the good tools CIG has created ?

Maybe ask the mayor or Manchester what they think about CIG et al. and the 1000 monkeys opening a coding factory.
Maybe we'll discover it's only smoke and set up as front to bag subsidies and tax breaks.

If you're $80,000 invested, how much money are you prepared to spend to try and get your investment back? Alternatively, if one is still a believer, how much to protect that investment? And in what way and against whom?

You invest in the fun you get from the game. If he gets fun with the current alpha he can't get in other games, he already has some return on his investment.
"Protect that investment against whom ?" Haters ?

It takes some guts to write it off and concede that your choice was a poor one. The deeper you're in that harder it can become.

But my dear Littleant - what if the “fun” available in the current game is for a tester who enjoys such things, to highlight and exploit functions in-game that utterly break it not only at the session level, or instance, or even server level, but at core DB functions - for everybody.

That is not some nasty griefer out to wreak havoc, that is valuable QC feedback that should be examined and addressed. CI-G have had years, and done sweet fruity apples about it - because they can’t.

You are thinking that for a player that had spent 200 or 300 hours in the alpha of SC, the vast majority of this time has been spent beeing griefed by another player or experiencing game breaking bugs ? Ho boy...

My dear Littleant - the list of recurring, unaddressed issues in SC is near limitless.

If you believe this is otherwise, and SC is currently viable as a release candidate, why is it not released?
Yes, there is a lot of bugs. No, you don't experience every one of them them full time (as explained here by guys that don't play). You can fell through the ground for sure. The last time I fell through the ground was 50 hours of playtime ago. And my last 30 K was at least 20 hours ago.
