Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Right now, I can optimistically predict 4.0 for Q4 2024. We'll end this year on 3.21 or 3.22.x being shoved out to PTU for the duration of the winter break :)

I can also take a really wild guess that Sqn 404 may end up as a joint PS5 (or perhaps an as yet unannounced Chinese console)/PC exclusive after someone dropped a huge a clanger at a Chinese bar citizen...perhaps this is part of the reasoning behind it's removal from the web store? Discussions please ;)

I could def see a prolonged PTU hell for 4.0 in 2024. (And some real big gaps between the waves ;). Or hell, maybe they'll invent Wave 10.2 or something 😁)

I wouldn't read too much into Sandi's console question at Shanghai-con. It felt more like a spur to get a 'PC master race' reaction to me, and felt like it got it too. (Chris did look uncomfortable though, like something had been revealed. And we've heard enough ongoing console gossip that a comedy SQ404 attempt to pass console muster could def happen ;))

Well yeah atmospheric flight in SC is nothing extraordinary but at least EXIST because in SF you can not fly your ship at all on the planets when it comes to the space flight they both lacking some basic things but at least SC feels less arcadish so there is that....also yes sure I agree SC code is totally broken and have gazillion problems 'tho maybe your post above it was not totally fair because CIG desperately trying to make some kind of multiplayer persistent universe and from other side SF is just a single player game....Actually it will be more fair and more fun IF we could compare Squadron 42 Vs Starfield but I guess that will probably not happen in the near future.......
We'll just have to compare SQ42 to Starfield 5 or something. :D

Right now, I can't optimistically predict 4.0 before Q2 or Q3 2024. We'll more than likely end this year on 3.21 or 3.22.x being shoved out to PTU for the duration of the winter break :)

I could also really push the limits of the guessing game by suggesting that Sqn 404 may end up as a joint PS5 (or perhaps an as yet unannounced Chinese console)/PC exclusive after someone dropped a huge clanger at a recent Chinese bar citizen...perhaps this is part of the reasoning behind it's removal from the web store? Discussions please ;)

How can they release SQ404 when so many things they need for SQ404 still need doing? I know their roadmap isn't the clearest, but some of the stuff they need and in good working condition would also appear in SC (and they wouldn't hold back on that if they had it, surely?). Unless they are being overly optimistic and think they can develop the remaining stuff in the coming months/year....

Sqn 404 won't be releasing either this year or next...call it a hunch. I do suspect though that part of the glacial progress ...besides the constant interference by the idiot Roberts...is that there's been some crude attempt underway for some considerable time to make Sqn 404 console compatible...I mean Sony and PS5 in that regard, since Microsoft would more than likely offer Roberts nothing but a boot in the a*se on the way out of their very wide doors.

Folk seem to forget that before Roberts and co leeched onto crowd funding as an easy way to bankroll his fantasy, he tried peddling the idea of Sqn 404 and star citizen to several publishers...needless to say, none of them were overly impressed by his rehashed 1990's Wing commander and Freelancer games sales pitch... nor of his record as a game designer. Consequently, they all showed him the door and the rest is history.

I really can't see Phil Spencer getting all dreamy eyed and advertising star citizen as 'Available day one on Gamepass' for some reason...The idiot still owes them for the $30m of Freelancer game development funding that he misappropriated to make the ill fated Wing Commander movie

Congratulations to the backers who pledged $10,000 (!). After waiting for two weeks, you can now help CIG test their software.

Ouff, yeah, that is possible. But that d mean that neither Pyro nor SQ are anywhere near, and therefore that anything shown or hinted at Citcon will be cattle biowaste of the highest order, as usual.

I mean, I was at least half confident that some kind of prelude episode for SQ42, or a couple missions, was realistic in lieu of the actual thing. But what you say would mean not even that is possible.

As for Sandi´s console reference I suspect that was just, again, one way more to misrepresent the status of SQ and bamboozle players into hype and hype related spend. I.e. "if CIG is even daring to consider console for SQ42 that surely means they must have it pretty much finalized". Etc etc.

If it is supposed to be 3.20.1 instead of 3.21, the moderators are being tight lipped about it. Someone asked that very question almost a day ago, and there hasn't been a response in that thread, despite well over a hundred posts there by backers. A simple "sorry, it was a typo" misunderstanding shouldn't take a day to resolve.

When you consider some of the junk that passes muster on the playstation (hello, Gilson B Pontes) it would be pretty damning if CIG couldn't manage it

Yep true, but could imagine them finding the quality bar testing none-the-less ;). Stability, framerate etc. (Especially given Chris will doubtless push the other way towards fidelity and last minute additions ;))

There's all kinds of comedy options out there, from them expensively failing a run of certs (including a day 1 patch cert), to them old-school 'bribing' their way to an unstable launch. (To them just launching without cert and getting into legal wrangles with Sony etc ;))

Could be fun, for everyone except the devs...

Good news everyone! Oh... wait...

Pyro is that ever gleaming incandescence, a tumbling island in that murky abyss, fading further and further away as the Universe continues to expand. Damn you, Hubble. Why must your constant whisk our game away?

EDIT:

Definite 2016 vibes going on...

all patches starting from 1.0 to current

Does it really matter what number they use? As long as features remain Tier-0 implementations and subject to change, there's not really any progress.
