Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

To those who're wondering why there's spectacled flying fox is added to game, it sure can be just another "clone" species but it could also be because of what happened 4~5 years ago.

Yeah the 2018 die-off was pretty horrific, wiped out almost a third of the entire Australian population and caused them to be upgraded from vulnerable to endangered. They’re a pretty good species to choose in regards to bringing awareness to species threatened by climate change.

After processing all of the videos about the new pack, I'm left wondering how much of the new foliage will wind up being part of the free update. From the commentary on it... It seems like there's quite a few new bits of foliage.

EDIT: Also just realized I didn't see, nor have I seen people talking about, the signs/decals for this pack for the animals. What's the over/under on the devil having its mouth wide open? :ROFLMAO: I kinda hope we get two variants (one with its mouth shut/just walking too) so there's a bit more versatility with that one...

Wait, am I the only one who wants the sloth bear most? I know we have asian bears already, my only argument is that it is my personal favorite and the cutest of them all (once again, for me personally :p).
I've started to change my mind about the ABB though, seeing how vital it is for so many of us planet zooers. And also I think frontier would make it look absolutely gorgeous. I never really fell in love with the base game bears, so I've rarely used them since sun bear.
Nah, count me in aswell. Sloth bear is the most interesting looking to me.
Im slowly starting to warm up to the ABB, admittedly mostly so i can get a max size one and use the brown color morph as an actually good looking brown bear 😅.
Never really understood the appeal of the spectacled bear, sure its cute and taxonomicly unique, but SA has way more interesting suff to offer imo

Yeah, that's actually the main reason I would like the American black bear, tied in my wishlist with the sloth bear and just slightly behind the Andean.

Jeez mate, all I wanted was the devil, you didn't have to go ahead and make the entire pack perfectly tailored to my interests. Appreciate it though!

I think the moral of the story is, if you want your literal dream pack to come to the game, make sure to carry an old maccas toy (minimum of a decade in age) of your most wanted animal around with you on the day of the special livestream, and your wishes shall be granted!
It looks like I need to buy Wolverine, Spectacled Bear and Gelada toys lol
Anyway, it's nice seeing everyone talking about Spectacled Bear, I just hope that this bear will make it in next potential highland pack. I will be using Spectacled Bear in my every zoo projects, no matter what

When will frontier release financial report?
It’s already there. They will continue the support. Planet zoo is doing well financially.

JWE2 and Planet Zoo performed especially well, each supported by four new PDLC packs releasing in FY23, alongside free content. In FY24 new PDLC packs and free content for both Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Zoo have already been released, with more planned during this financial year.

So to sum up this whole “is Oceania complete?” discussion, there is always still more to add, what is needed and what’s not obviously depends on your own bias, but I think we can all agree now when comparing the continents that Oceania isn’t a stand out, it’s missing two-three animals just like Africa, NA, Asia, etc. South America is the only odd ball left.
Oceania has some of the highest endemism in the world since it consists entirely of evolutionally isolated islands so the fact that it has a total of 20 animals including the 5 in the new pack is still way too low especially considering how integral oceanic animals are to oceanic zoos with usually close to half the animals in zoos coming from the continent this is the case at least in Australia. But besides this point south America is definitely not the oddball I agree it is criminally under represented especially given how much biodiversity comes from that continent but how much of that is readily accessible in zoos. I think the continent that needs the most is Europe it has the lowest total animal count with less than 20 total animals and a majority of them are representative of larger regions such as the arctic circle or just the entirety of the northern hemisphere.
I think the only continents that really have everything is Africa and Asia having well over half the animals between them the rest still have plenty of essential animals from across many different bioregions that would be considered essential by many.
Also if they do add more South American animals please let it be from temperate south America since the only like proper temperate animal is the llama everything else is just runoff from north America.

I think spectacled bears appeal comes mostly from its presence in the zoo tycoon series I have always been on the fence with the ABB because it is a much smaller bear compared to the brown bears so would likely feel and play differently enough to justify its inclusion but also another bear is sort of a meh choice when it could be something never seen before in the game.

Guess we are good for at least until the Summer I would bet.

True but I would call Oceania pack as a whole odd ball pack since animals provided there are super rare in zoos outside the region. Not like echidna and tree kangaroo that are fairly well represented both in Europe and America and are still very needed for the region to be fully represented in the game. I guess they were left to join the game at the later point.

I have a feeling we are going to be fine till fy25 or fy26 since they said they plan on releasing new creative management titles in these years. It is likely at least one of these will be entries in the planet series and I have a feeling one of them will be a planet zoo sequel or if it is a different planet game it will shift support away from planet zoo.

Wheter or not you think europe is well represented or not also kinda depends on your willingness to use other similar animals as stand ins. Like if your not willing to use the timber wolf, grizzly, beaver and to a lesser degree the bison as their european counterparts the place suddently cumbles to dust lacking both of its apex predator, a semi aquatic animal and its largest herbivore.
I personally have no issue using said animals as their european relatives, so the place is looking a lot more lively for me than for people who might not like the idea of using substitutes.
So for me europe is really only missing the boar, a couple small critters like martens, wild cats and marmots, and birds both habitat and aviary (but those are missing universally) to be in a good spot.
