Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

I wish some more niches were represented cause I don't expect us to get much more North african stuff after this. It really just annoys me that we have 7 ungulates for North africa and 6 for the whole of Asia.
Asian ungulates:
  1. Bactrian
  2. Dromedary
  3. Babirusa
  4. Tapir
  5. Rhino
  6. Horse
  7. Reindeer
  8. Moose
  9. Red deer
  10. Fallow deer
  11. Water buffalo
Not a high number, but how did you get 6?

Let's follow MENA development:
  • Base game: puff adder - 0 habitat (1 exhibit) (technically also flamingo)
  • Africa 2021: fennec, scarab - NA: 1 (2), ME: 0 (2)
  • Conservation 2022: scimitar oryx - NA: 2 (2), ME: 0 (2)
  • Twilight 2022: egyptian fruit bat - NA: 2 (3), ME: 0 (3)
  • Grassland 2022: caracal, striped hyena - NA: 4(3), ME: 2(3)
  • Arid 2023: 10 (4), ME: 4 (4)
So in the 3 years between 2019 and 2022, the region was elpty in the game. And it took another year for it to pass the 3 habitat animal mark. When people say 3 animals they tend to refer to the SHO, fennec, and beetle.
Nile monitors are in North Africa too. So is red deer and red fox since they aren't defined by a subspecies in the game.

So only 3 up until Arid arrived is not true.
Of course they are far from all highly associated with these regions, but at least the hyena, caracal and bat all seems like animals that could fit a zoo area themed around North Africa. Maybe even the monitor because of Nile in the name, and the Nile often being tied to Egypt (where the monitors also can be found).

I already replied this to another comment, I was referring to the arid biogeographic region of MENA, not the geopolitical definition.

As far as biogeography is concerened, the temperate parts of europe, middle east and the little bit of temperate forest left in north africa, which contain the red deer and red fox, are all in the same distinct biogeographic region.

And either way, as you said, they are not associated with the region, its biome or are adapted to living there. So irrelevant to the discussion unless you want a technical gotcha.

I originally replied to Nutrit's comment about only 3 animals for these areas until Arid. Nothing stated about biogeography there.

Given that we receive a tropical rainforest related dlc every spring.I think we will get a Central American pack or Amazon pack to fill the animals in South America. Similarly, every summer we receive DLC from grassland or desert ecosystems, so I think there will be a India animal pack.what do you think

I know you're kidding because of the emoji, but definitely didn't have anyone in mind when I wrote that. :) We want what we want and we can't always help that, I know that for sure.

to add, you were able to separate your big wants from the rest of the them, and that makes sense. If we are going to keep wishing for certain animals, we may have to prioritize what we really want versus what would just be nice to have in the game. Not everything everyone wants can be necessary, of course what people varies from person to person as well. All fine and good. Regardless of what animals Frontier choose to add or has already chosen to add, making a stronger push for the fewer animals makes more sense to me. I'm sure there are some players that also don't actually have a wishlist, they're cool with whatever is added. I'm not quite like that, but if we were to get the Wolverine I'd almost feel that way.

Since I've given up on exhibit birds as of this pack's reveals, I'm not going to be trying to push that anymore. They're not coming. It's time to focus on what might have a chance to come. Still will be sad about them though.
I feel like I am one of the ones that is chill with whatever. Is there animals I would love to see in the game? Absolutely. Do I make wishlists and participate in the metalists etc? Yes, I do for fun. Do I remember in a months time what I put on that wish list? No, I do not. Personally I am just thrilled that the game is getting support, that interesting and new animals are getting added reliably to the game to keep things fresh, and the frontier is so focused on being responsive to the community.

I do find it draining that often there is a lot of negativity over animals that are "missing" from each pack, or that X y z choice would be better. . I have lurked on the forum for a while, and I do read a lot of the posts that are up even if I'm not interacting with it. I do feel like it comes from a place of fear that we have only so many animals left and what if Your animals aren't included? So you are vocal about it. I think it is important to remember that while Frontier is incredible with their community engagement and support, they are still a profit driven business that needs to appeal to a broad spectrum of demographics to achieve high sales to continue being successful. All of us here are passionate about animals and are generally more knowledgeable than the casual player, but remember that the casual player is the foundation of frontiers profit base, which is why animals like the brown throated sloth, the quokka, the sand cat etc are included - it's because Frontier is looking at what will act as a hook to draw in the general public, while also trying to balance it with the desires of their loyal fanbase (us) and trying to keep their own personal twist on things too. Clearly that formula is working for them as pz is one of their top performers.

I've gotten a few of my casual gamer friends into the game and have gifted it a few times when I can have even convinced them to buy DLC here and there. I don't really hear from them " oh i wish this was animal X instead" or " this animal is held in low numbers in captivity" it's "omg look how cute this sloth is" or "aww these meerkats are so tiny". That's exactly the kind of reach Frontier is trying to have with other gamer demographics that aren't zoo/animal buffs. I think it's important to keep that in mind when thinking about the roster in each pack. My best friend got the game because she got hyped listen to me talk about it, and she is excited about the quokka because she's seen it in memes in the last few years, and I think that's exactly what Frontiers aim has been with a few animals

(Way for me to over repeat my point huh 😅)

I absolutely agree that as a community we really should be thinking about what animals as a whole are essential to the game, and not just to our own desires. I know it is hard to separate the two when what we each deem as essential is built up from preferences, experiences, and opinion. Maybe we could look at finding out what the most common animals in captivity are (an undertaking of reasonable size I know), cross referencing to what we have in PZ, and figuring out what's lacking and working out what's essential from there?

Another thing for people to consider is mods.

I also intend to use mods when support ends. The modders are doing an incredible job at creating new animals - I don't use them but I do keep an eye on what's being released, because I enjoy seeing what is out there. I know mods aren't for everyone but I know that my most wanted animals have been made, and it doesn't bother me if they don't officially get into the game. I know that the option is there. I know it's not for everyone but I think its a point to consider

There's a lot of really good points in here, I'm glad you're posting now! I think relating how the game's roster is viewed to more casual players or casual animal enthusiasts is important as well. Getting those generally recognizable and iconic animals in the game is a big factor and I feel like they've done that with every DLC except perhaps for Southeast Asia. We've almost run out of those types of animals - or mammals anyways, without moving to more domesticated or smaller animals that are more known for non-zoo sightings than zoo sightings (the rabbits, squirrels and the like). And that's great, I've always said that Frontier's done a really great job with their mammal roster, barring needing more New World Primates, and whatever's going on with the Malayan Tapir.

So yeah, I'm definitely with you in the sense that we not only have to think about what animals we personally want, but what animals the community wants as well as what's marketable outside of the core players. Fortunately my mammal wants fairly aligned with the meta list, until recently, and even then I still have 4 or 5 animals in the top 10 that I also have in my top 10. I don't really expect we'll get everything from the metalist top 10 at this point, and I certainly don't think that we'll get everything from my own top 10 - kind of why I'm really just pushing the Wolverine at this point. I don't really need a Baboon,. Muskox or Walrus, but I see the community's want for them and I hope they make it in just because of that. Not every pack has to be tailored to my wants, nor would I ever expect it to be. If i'm happy with 3/4ths of a packs roster I feel like that's fantastic, anything more than that is just absolutely wonderful.

And about mods, I'm the same way. I used them a little a couple of years ago but decided to stop...I'm waiting for content to officially end before I get into that.
