Totally agree. I don't think we need more canids, we definitely have more important missing species but if then I'd choose these four, too.It pains me to say this, but I completely understand if people are sick of canids. I'm not because they are cool (my fave pet is dog!)
IF Frontier adds more the species I'd love to see them consider first:
Bat-eared Fox

They are social but can live alone just fine. Would add to African Safari animals (right now we only have the Wild Dog). They are somewhat of a basal canid. Related to foxes yes, but they branched off of that line early. Their markings are a bit raccoon-like and they eat insects.
Tanuki

I believe they live in family groups like the fox above. Also like the fox, they have raccoon markings (hence their name Racoon Dog) and they are genetically similar in that they are fox relatives but branched into their own thing. Although we have Asian Canids I think they would be valuable to add for Japan. Very cool looking animal!
Bush Dog

What Bat-eared foxes and Tanukis are to foxes; the Bush Dog is to the Maned Wolf. Albeit in the opposite way. They look cute but they are pack hunters. They look almost like a cross between wild dogs (African AND dhole) and weaseltypes.
Black-backed Jackal

Jackals are not in game yet. I think the black-backed species is pretty. (I'd be cool with any jackal; originally I wanted the Golden) The reason I want jackals over coyotes is simply because the Wild Dog is the only African canid we have found south of the desert! They are like coyotes in their chilling songs and they have a ton of culture around them!
They look coolWait, maybe I'd throw out the tanuki because I don't really see the value of this species and I don't really understand the popularity they have in this forum.
Those are definitely needed. I will also keep a free Enclosure for them when I restart my japanese Zoo in another Place because I don't give up the Hope that we'll still get themRaccon Dog (Cute and fluffy, would be good for Japanese or just general East Asian areas and these are really common in smaller zoos)
If we're just talking about this year alone, I think it's extremely possible we won't have a canid in the next pack. We don't know what the theme will be, but likely something colder weather and I can't think of any likely canids for either a highlands/taiga or tundra. Even if it weren't a highlands or tundra pack, the other big theme talked about was islands, and I think that's pretty unlikely given the Oceania pack has several island species. That means likely no Racoon Dog, at least for this year. This could very well be our first year without canids honestly, but I'd still like more. I don't think any absolutely essential ones are left but there is still two species I really want to see:
I also would like bush dogs, but they are a level below for me honestly. As for the other options, I'd be fine with coyote or a jackal but please nothing else.
- Raccon Dog (Cute and fluffy, would be good for Japanese or just general East Asian areas and these are really common in smaller zoos)
- Bat-Eared Fox (Evolutionary distinct from other foxes, would give African savannas a smaller canid since the Fennec can't be used here really, also a pretty iconic zoo animal to me personally
This should have been the Sand Cat.I wish one of the ungulates in the Arid pack had been changed to the Golden Jackal, but it is what it is.
I would too except that now that its after the fact I do adore all the ungulates! Even the Dama Gazelle is a good addition to the game. and I can promise as much as I want an African Canid someone else wanted the Dama Gazelle.I wish one of the ungulates in the Arid pack had been changed to the Golden Jackal, but it is what it is.
Yeah, I feel like we have enough for the time being.Canids I'd welcome to the game:

Objectively we certainly do...Yeah, I feel like we have enough for the time being.
Although pets weren't allowed in zoos (correct?), were there zoos that housed domestic cats and domestic dogs?I'd happily welcome:
- Domestic dogs that can be companion animals (especially for cheetahs...)!
- Bat-eared fox
- Black-backed jackal
- Ethiopian wolf (the ZT2 nostalgia is real)
- Island fox
- Tanuki
- Tibetan fox
- Bush dog
