Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

Thought I was doing well until I hit the module limit at 112,780 cargo units. I don't really want to lose the four Helion Beams and two twin mounts. Still swithering about saving the changes....

Glad I'm not the only one who apparently learnt ship design from Lakon...

Does the trading in Starfield scale upward to make use of that cargo size? The largest haul mission I've seen so far was 5,000 kg or so.

I went to do one of the Activities, which are generally simple things like go talk to a person, visit a location, etc. This one was to visit a location that turned out to be an abandoned research facility of some kind.

Inside, I saw this. I was thinking "I know this movie!"

The whole place was very creepy feeling, with notes and emails and such along the way that told the story of some xenobiological study gone wrong. So I was expecting to run into some sort of alien monster at some point.

I was not disappointed. However, I did not expect it to be level 85 (I'm level 20)!

Amazingly I managed to kill it before it killed me (barely).

Some of these little side quest things are pretty darn cool.

Since I reached maximum bloat on my money pit of a Crimson Fleet Ghost and still have little interest in base building or crafting--making the increased cargo capacity for dead weight materials rather pointless--I decide took another look at the Frontier, mostly because I couldn't sell it.

I ended up stripping it completely, retaining only the loading bay, and rebuilding it from the ground up (around the only engines in the game, as far as I have seen, with more than 150 default speed) with the most advance parts I could get with my newly acquired rank 4 ship engineering skill. Most of the good weapons are actually class A with this rank; higher classes add weight, but do not increase range or damage output. Likewise, the mass trade-offs with higher than B class modules else where aren't worth while at this point, unless the goal is to maximize crew or cargo capacity.

So, the Ship of Theseus Frontier II:

215 standard speed, 861 boost, 90 mobility, 30ly jump, 775 cargo (enough for ship parts, spare gear, and two packs full of loot...all my character actually needs). Only 70% of the hull and half the shielding of the Ghost, but the smaller profile, greater mobility, and quicker shield regeneration make it even more of a ridiculously overpowered combatant.

Tried to stay all class A, but that proved impractical if I wanted any usable amount of cargo, more than one crew, and the ability to reach the most fringe systems (some of which need 28-30ly). Accommodations wise, I also managed to keep the toilet.

So nearly 12% of players never made it off the original world 🤔

More understandable I guess, not everyone goes out hunting for the illusive homes of the Exotic minerals ;)

... and even less go searching for the homes of the Exotic organics :D

I got up to the maximum of 24 outposts linked at one stage, kinda glad there is no achievement for that 😬

Steam Achievements get invalidated if you’re using mods - unless you use the mod to enable them again 😁

Why not call it Frontier Theseus? I got a B class rework of the Hoplite II. It's more sluggish and slowe than yours but sameish cargo and jump range. And it clears enemies with particle cannons quite efficiently. I tried to keep A class Frontier, too, but it's kinda an impasse when strapping an additional engine only barely pays for itself in thrust - mass yield.

Just yesterday I made the kill 300 creatures milestone. Total playtime 3d now. The reach space milestone is peculiar though, but I guess that's people dropping out who don't like it. Like ppl never getting out of a Siedewinder in ED.

Definitely sense Sir David with a "Love the design" comment when I go to my ship...

Ah, the Pregnant Whale? That is a good heavy duty bridge for workhorse ships. You can do some wonders with editing the colours. It is a similar layout like my New Frontier. 3 habs side to side?
How much power is your reactor? I see so many weapons - do you switch power to EM and lasers based on circumstance?

It seems that Bethesda didn't consider that players would accrue more than 100,000 cargo storage, or cargo for that matter when they designed the UI.

There's nothing really exciting in the cargo, mainly Adaptive Frames and Isocentred Magnets (that the aluminium, cobalt, iron & nickel produced in abundance by my first Outpost can be used to craft).

I am looking at 152928 tons of unsorted loot. It makes me very uneasy.

The F-4 Phantom II of Starfield. With enough thrust, even a brick can fly :D

Btw. I love that bridge design. Which one is it?

I swapped out the Stroud wings for Deimos since that shot to give better visibility from the Bridge. Hopetech 300 BTW, fantastic view when you land.
Reactor is a Tokamak X-200 currently giving 23 pwr.
Once the opposition is down to a single ship I can switch pwr from the electron beams to the suppressors whilst sitting on the target's tail.

Docking in Neon where everyone around me is a total stranger, everyone avoids me like a Freestar Ranger...
