No Single Player offline Mode then?

HEY GUYZ! MICHAEL IS HERE!

So, Michael, thanks for showing up on Saturday. Showing up now.

Care to tell us what is going on in the world of FD?

We're busy making the game ready for the beta 3.9 launch later this week.

Michael

Is that really going to be it Michael? - F: D are not going to put out an official statement about this beyond what has already been said?

The decision was made so that we could focus on getting the game done and to match what we desired from the game - so of course we're continuing with work.

Michael

Wow...

Just... wow.

A natural-born politician, if ever I saw one. Responds, but utterly fails to address the actual question.

I didn't mean it as a competitin. I don't think we are competing. I just meant as background fluctuation. We are not squabbling over scarce resources here.

It's been said before, but I guess it bears repeating, some things will clearly be competed for. Exploration is a good example of this. The game is designed around ranging out from central locations. Occasional players are going to find all the obvious choices for starting explorers will all be well trodden ground, and pay poorly.

That's not to mention that players who want to save and quit with a cargo load of goods will instead log off the server not knowing what the price may be for their goods when they log back on.

Online is going to make the game harder than it would otherwise be for those who have limited time. Just like an MMO.

There is another good reason for offline mode..

Right now everytime I select the Galactic map after 2 seconds I get kicked out of the game...so even though I have perfect internet I cant play :)
How ironic... Everyone is worried about servers going down but what about bugs ?

now if it's a bug that is unrelated to to network problems (never happene to me), it would be in the offline version also ;)

I'm not sure if I'm more offended by the suggestion that we're just pirates. Sorry, "some" of us are, or that you deign to decide what other people think is fun because you like it.

For all the tossing around of "stages of grief" or even "dunning-kruger" I'm sad to say the old classic "capture bonding" explains an awful lot from the other side of the argument. Everyone's just making trouble for your father! You know how hard he works for you. He doesn't mean to hurt you but you made him do it with all your demands.

It tells a pretty sad tale.

Its a shame they never implemented something like this from the start in ED. Ensure you read the original post in that thread for comment reference/perspective.

I think it would have avoided all these offline issues they encountered late in the game.

Sad thing is there are many like this.... Some may be possibly legitimate but there are too many to be a simple coincidence.

Except of course it wouldn't be a coincidence would it. Its very likely that backers many many backers never bothered to register on the forums. Of course a big hit like this comes along and they suddenly have a reason to do so.

Is it impossible that some are duplicates or trolls, of course not, but its hardly the most logical conclusion.

First post after joining. Hard to believe you are not just joining the forum to troll in this thread.

You have an odd notion of trolling. Having already submitted my ticket for a refund I had no idea my sentiment would be considered trolling by anyone. Disappointing to those who look forward to the online experience, but not trolling.

No it's been answered, you just didn't like the answer :p

This is simple, they aren't going to change their mind. The reason for which is almost certainly that it would take many more months to get offline mode ready. They just aren't going to do it at least "short term". Maybe in an expansion, who knows, but definitely not in the original release.

"Galaxy, story, missions, have to match, and it does mean the single player has to connect to the server from time to time, but this has the added advantage that everyone can participate in the activities that can happen in the galaxy. A fully offline experience would be unacceptably limited and static compared to the dynamic, ever unfolding experience we are delivering."

Then you must think about it before start a kickstarter project with Singleplayer mode and ask for money.

I also hate hyperbolic drama

Im with you on this one .. And whilst I can rant with the best of them, the hyperbole has reached stupid levels now. Sadly its how the gaming community as a whole is these days.

Whilst I do feel genuinely sorry for those without a working internet connection at all or those who simply cannot play online, the rest are just the 'mob' readying their pitchforks. Given half the chance they would march on the FD office demanding DB's head on a stick.

Its good the see we have progressed as a species in the last few hundred years. The UK riots of a couple of years ago shows how far we have not come. This thread is basically just the digital version of that.

Internet forum equals London riots started over the shooting by police of a black man.

Wow. So little hyperbole there! Thanks for playing!

pretty much, tho it's not limited to gaming communities - it's just people..

I've said it before, but it has to be released this year.. they promised it at the IPO according to the IPO documents. And they can realise a lot of accrued money as soon as its launched. So cashflow is the king here.

Besides, it pretty good now.
