Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Yeah, I've heard rumours that some well-placed ax-rockets do the trick...

Which makes me think...
According to sme sources, Palin seems to be quite intersted in these new materials.
Now I wonder if maybe one of the on-foot engineers might be interested in that stuff, too...
Apparently if you sell both materials obtainable via the SRV (impure spire material and semi-refined spire material) you get a ping from Palin asking you to sell the on-foot stuff to a specific bartender.

I went to BRSO 14, IC 4604, then wayy over to the Crescent nebula. Then, just a little farther made 5K light years from home to unlock a couple of engineers. Now, on my way back, the matter at hand is.....

Chasing a space mollusk

I spent some hours scanning every terrorist, er tourist beacon I could find in Sol and visited Persephone (didn't go for the ancient probes).
From Persephone, I jumped to a nearby star system and learned where Hutton Orbital is located. Pstponed the visit of this place to another, yet to decide date and jumped to Barnard's Star to end my session in the resident space station's bar.

Quite the bullet sponge eh?

It seems to be quite resistant to ship weapons - and was more difficult to engage with an SRV than on foot tbh - one managed to destroy two of us, myself in Scarab and X in a Scorp… that’s quite interesting in terms of gameplay i think.

…there are also quite a few new things to discover, including the receptacles with multi-switch mechanic - and the environment itself is something new: a vertical structure with landing areas for ships, fortunately L-pad sized …we also enjoyed the platforms and “geysers”, for leaping across the high-altitude chasms… :)

Interesting, as someone claimed to have killed one with a Scorp. Though, this was a comment in a toob video, so no clue what to make of it.

We weren’t trying tooo hard tbh - just having fun at the new sites, exploring and hopping about on foot & in SRV… a couple of intriguing bugs had us lolling somewhat bemused already, with my ’Conda getting stuck in one of the Spires’ landing blades on recall - though X’s Corvette preferred to use the “underground” parking… :D

What's a guy got to do to get some on ground rank?

I cleared (won) 4 on foot combat zones today and turned in 12,000,000 credits worth of bonds for all the kills and it didn't budge my "Defenseless" rank one single percent. I've been stuck at 38% for a long, long time.
I think there's a bit of delay between handing in your bonds and seeing the progress bar er... progress. A system jump or relog should sort it.

I've killed one in my scorpion - but it was tough as old boots and I barely made it out. Something like half my ammo and a few missiles to boot. It's easier with another commander manning the turret, since if you sit still for a few seconds it's ON you and just rains hell.

Yeah, keeping the turret on target while driving at the same time isn't easy. I prefer driving, but then it is even harde to keep the turret on target, as in auto mode, it has an extremely small even for the AI easily to evade targeting cone.

Interestingly, someone wished for those repeaters on the Scarab to be available for ships...

I personally would wish the SRVs would get an upgrade that makes them truly modular. And perhaps even more variants.

The Scorpions gun is so bad, I've gone back to the regular old SRV. It's gun, although not as powerful, lands every single shot. I can fire 300 rounds at a soldier in a combat zone in the Scorpion and not kill him. He dies almost instantly in the SRV just because every shot lands.

I've never fought one of those things you guys are talking about, but I wouldn't even bother doing it in a Scorpion knowing that only 1 out of every 10 shells is going to hit. If that.

I dislike its guns too. For a vehicle designed for combat, it's pretty wimpy.
Nope.

I got absolutely nothing for any of those combat zones I won and the 12 million worth of bonds I cashed in. Zero. Nada.
That's ... very strange. Hmm...
