Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The blindly faithful will be blind and faithful, and there's nowt much to do there.

This 'build a company first' nonsense always irritates. If they are hiring/assigning the right quality industry professionals with the necessary experience (and attitude and abilities) it really does not take long to instatiate a fully funtional project/programme/business 'entity'.

I know first hand how quickly such an operational entity can be created, complete with all roles populated and working, as that's what the company that I work for does. It also delivers product and then, once complete, tears down that delivery unit and moves on, leaving a support and maintenance unit behind.

And if some chose to play the 'company XXX has been working/planning on game ABC for NN years', well, we can play the same game. When did Cobblers create the first Wing Commander? 1990. So, SC and SQ404 has been in gestation for 33 years... ...no?
You just don't understand game development. It needs proper piping and fixtures for all the content to slosh around. How else would you pass stuff around that's being worked on? You need those pipelines.

it takes a well-established company with lots of experience X years to make a game like Starfield, then throwing all the usual apologetics excuses used by backers, like "they had to build a company first", how long would be realistic for CIG to actually make SC as advertised?
Forgetting, as always, that part of the original Kickstarter sales pitch was that they had already built that company, developed a pre-alpha prototype, and would be ready for alpha testing within a year. All they needed was a few million!

In the internal dev builds and at CitCon.

I'm positive you'll be having an epic Idriss-off in Pyro in 90 days tops my undersized pavement crack dweller!

"We will treat backers with the same respect we would treat a publisher" - Chris Roberts

To date, Chris is treating backers exactly like he used to treat publishers. With utter contempt.
Huh, back then when I learned English we had a bit of touble learning the verb "treat" since it looks familiar to "treten" (to kick). And actually you could make it work sometimes like in this sentence. It's rough, but that's how we kicked the English language.

This was how it was pitched was it? 'Insignifcant fluff that we can just chuck away on a whim'.

In the mean time, send three and fourpence, I'm going to a dance.
It was pitched, if I remember correctly, as a side project with a small team that will be fun to play and useful for testing combined arms. ToW is not vital and not important to the project.

Are you telling me that you, as a funder and supporter of this project, willingly accept the 4 year delay of ToW, and almost certain disappearance, for no other reason than "it is not vital to the project"?

Could you tell me which things from the following list you would willingly accept that finally were not as promised (because they were actually promised years ago in a very different way), and after more than 11 years of waiting?

  • Loading processes in the PU.
  • Separate instances instead of a single reality for all players.
  • Servers that have a hundred players instead of the "thousands" promised.
  • Not total persistence due to removal of "non-priority" entities after x days.
  • Shortcomings in playable mechanics that finally are less deep than initially indicated.

If you would be so kind as to answer me....

In fairness, they've gone absurdly big on the venue this time. According to Stu's digging they've got the 17k capacity hall, and a bonus 2k one.

But not to worry, CIG have an ingenious plan. If Stu's right, they're just gonna hide a third of the space ;)

(More money well spent ;))
