Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

You are right, SQ42 can be a nice looking flop if the gameplay is bad.
But for what I've seen from AI in SC when the server is brand new and from some missions in game, I doubt that SQ42 will be a flop.

Statistically though they have failed to release one single game.

That's a 100% failure rate. That's not even opinion. No released games since 2012.

It takes a heck of alot of crunch to release a game, the amount of games that have casually meandered into release state with no crunch is none. The best industry talent they hired have since left and they constantly say it's "two years away" like they think the general public are foolish.

I personally don´t know. So, when do you think it will get actually released? Is sometime in 2025 a reasonably fair estimate? Perhaps 2026 to be on the safe side?
I've been seeing LittleAnt's same sentiment on the Reddit subforums, too. "You guys just want it to fail, you'll be so angry when it releases," and it's like no, I would love for it to be released. I paid good money for a game, why wouldn't I want it? How up your own rear do you have to be to believe people who paid three and four figure donations don't want their game they paid for?

There's no room for nuance or criticism. SC loyalist logic is very simple:

It's ok Pipeline say mini-Chris says it's all go for this year...

(If you've paid your dues or fallen through the correct number of floors etc)

Pretty sure there was a statement from CIG saying unless something comes directly from CR then it cannot be taken as fact.

If something comes directly from CR, well, he absolved himself of all wrongdoing anyway, so it can't be taken as fact.

This does not stop backers believing everything CIG says is true, until it isn't, then they do a 180 and say CIG never promised anything.

Weird reflexion. What if CIG is 1 or 2 years late precisely because they don't crush ?

But I understand, it's really a bad news here to know that SQ42 is near the beta stage.
I thought it was beyond beta as it just needs polish? Or was that the version from 2016 that was about to be released? Or the one after that where all the levels were greybox or better? I'm sure it can't be the version in 2019 as that was the alpha, and the 2014 version was a full release so it's not that either..

Here's a question for you (from Facebook)

The answer is relatively straightforward:
  • If you buy a game package, you are buying the game as is. Regular purchase, like buying any other game, as the game has been released in early access.
  • If you buy a ship that is in the game, same thing. Regular purchase, as the ship DLC is also released in the game.
The only case where it could be perhaps remotely considered that you are still "backing" is for vehicles that are in the concept stage, not yet in game. Alas, given SC´s ToS (and unless you contest those) in practicality you are not backing anything. You are just giving extra money to CIG, out of the goodness of your kind heart, without any obligation whatsoever for CIG to give you anything in return.

SQ42 can not be pre-purchased at this time. Hasn´t been available in the store for over 6 months.

SC ceased to be a crowdfunded project long ago, around 2016 as per CIG own statements.

You get a loaner ship in return. Until when/if the concept ship comes out.
