Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Oh bless that seaweed. They've sub-linked to a load of stuff I was interested in.

The repeated space whale blag...

The "exodus of our senior team" for the BMM:

And he's saved me watching a torrent of tedious presentations about hair! (For now :/. I suspect I'm gonna have to skip through 'em to make a vid about this revolving door of absurdity ;))

Slightly OT but seeing as it's being discussed ... what's the difference between swapfile.sys and pagefile.sys?

I recently got a significantly faster M.2 SSD than my primary C: drive. I didn't want to go the whole hog of moving Windows across to it but I did use the Windows Performance Options/Advanced/Virtual memory settings to move the paging file (seemed like a good idea). I still have swapfile.sys on my original C: drive tho and was wondering if and how I should try to move that as well.

As I said just a page or two back, its hard to tell the difference between posts from the faithful and those that are parody.
It's because the parody is not one. It seems to be parody here because no one give a about making the game work while it's in fact just useful tips. They don't apply for you, it's fine, but they apply for a lot of guys on reddit asking for help. It's like calling a useful tip like "Enable Port Forwarding and set port to 5100" a parody...

Many many years ago i tried to run without a pagefile, and it was nice to see my comp performance improve in general, as windows could no longer thrash the hard drive and leave unused memory unused on a whim. Then i tried MS Office and it crashed.

Pagefiles are a crutch that programmers lean on when they don't have to because they don't put proper memory management in their software.
Ouch

Pagefile is for RAM, swapfile stores Windows-specific app data afaik.

Asmongold is dishonest. How can you slight SF for bugs and praise the broken crap that is SC? Only if you're low integrity.
Because SC is an alpha, you ignoramus. And contrary to an outrageous 60 EUR package that grants you access to the entirety of working SF, in SC it is enough to pay several hundred bucks to experience the dream of a non-existing spaceship that definitely looks good on the store page and in the marketing videos.

I mean when I look at it, it is clear to me that Bugthesda is a shady developer milking their customers to the bone, while CI is the unicorn of transparency and ethical development.

You forgot the rest :
Lol? No idea why this was mentioned here but peer to peer connectivity, whether in games or in file share networks is absolutely a thing today. For as long as our internet connections are router based and there is no widespread IPV6 there will be a need for port forwarding in peer to peer activity.

The pagefile.sys thingy in SC in the other hand seems actually out of place.

Why ? When a software use 20Go of ram and you have only 16Go of RAM, knowing how the pagefile work is the first step to understand why your software crash....
What's the difference with knowing which port must be opened for some specific software to understand why it doesn't connect ?

Not sure they hired an astrophysicist: didn't they hire Yogi to do their flight model - who came from fdev?
Are they going to hire someone from Dice to do their FPS module? CCP for their economy?
Years ago Citizens were saying how much better and realistic flight models will be compared to Elite Dangerous, is it now?
