Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I thought that might be the case. Grade 3 dirty tuning is pretty fast on an iCourier. You need to experiment in Coriolis to find out if drag or drive distributors is the best experimental effect to use as it is dependent on the mass of your specific Courier build.
Yeah, I noticed that, recently. Lighter ships get more speed out of the drive distributors mod, the heavier ones run faster with drag drives.
And in this quite heavy configuration I have theorized there definitely runs faster with drag drives.

You mentioned the pre engineered thrusters earlier and I took a look into them... You're right, they suffer big time from weight. Put into this configuration, I couldn't get them past 500m/s, even with grade 5 engineering.

Yes the Enhanced Performance Thrusters are something to consider in terms of racing.

I did get mine to quite a speed but at the cost of everything else. It's made out of paper but, man, what a rush...

Dang. 😲

🤔 You could get a little more hull and shields without hurting your speed, though.

That's odd. If I try to reproduce your build, I can't get past 672m/s, it tops out there, no matter what.

I've never used the Beluga before. So I bought one for my alt account I play as a trader when I want a break from Thargoid and BGS game play. I've bought all the right parts except for some passenger cabins. I'll tinker with it for a week or so engineering and then see how long it takes to make back it's buy cost running passenger missions. Robigo runs are banned.
It's an interesting sound ship, much like it's smaller siblings and moves well for a big ship.
Let's see if I grow to like it more than I think I will. I love the Orca and the Dolphin eventually won me over though it's mediocre jump range still bothers a bit.

I was talking about trying to replicate it in Coriolis. The same settings and equipment, but slightly less speed.
Should probably have mentioned that ⬆️.
At grade 5 those thrusters are very mass sensitive, you might well have missed a stripped down effect or a D rated and/or undersized module like say the fuel tank. If you left shields in going with enhanced low power strips off some mass even before going stripped down. Oh and Drag Drives are better than Drive Distributors at G5.

Apparently, my brain took a little break when I last tried that.
It looks like I missed the drag drives - though, as I found out, this only works if the ship is as light as possible. All it took was a shield booster to tip the scales.

One point to note about that speedy build: ADC's can't cope - or, at least, mine didn't.

I was smashed into an outpost landing pad on a few occasions, hence the shields. I could probably squeeze a bit more speed out of it by removing that module but then it'd be like flying something made of tin foil barely able to contain oxygen.

I suppose that could be construed as fun in the eyes of some.

:D

Hmm... I might ... nah... but... hmm...

Just say it. You mean Buckyballers. Don't you? ;)

I've rolled my iEagle into a crumpled ball more than once flying fast down canyons, and that was with shields. And a friend has one that overheats so much when boosting, it damn near bursts into flames!

Hmm... I might ... nah... but... hmm...
Do it, Tyres. You know you want to. Mwahahahaaa!

My 851m/s boost iCourier likes to bounce like a basket ball two or three times before sticking to the landing pad. It is kind of funny.

Well, I tried that in Coriolis. It looks like 699 m/s cruise / 932 m/s boost is the upper limit. The only thing you might be able to improve is the jump range.
But I'm not sure if 10.93 ly vs.11.02 ly max range is worth dumping the shields....

I think at almost 1km/s, we get to the limit of what our eye to hand coordination can handle.
